A Cereal-sly Fantastic Homecoming
by Sienna Mehling
It has been a cereal-sly fun week here on campus with our thrilling dress-up days and exciting games and activities on campus this past week! This year's theme was different types of cereal each day, which had students from high school all the way down to elementary dressing according to the different cereals each day. Each campus had different dress-up days. High schools' dress-up days consisted of Sports Day, Tropical Day, Senior Citizen Day, Career Day, and Spirit Day. Students participated in many different games at lunch this week. Monday included two cereal-sly intense games of Kajabi. One game with girls and the other with boys. Since Tuesday was Tropical Day, a co-ed beach volleyball was played out on the green. Wednesday, students ate their raisin bran and appeared to be 60 years older. They raced around the green with walkers and wheelchairs. Thursday’s game was spike ball because what's Life without Spike Ball? Cheerios and other cereals were the themes of Friday’s game, where students participated in cheerio “minute to win it” games.
Thursday’s talent show was a big hit and saw all kinds of different talents from every grade. Eight different acts were performed. The senior class was represented by Eliana Rotunno, with her freshman sister Angelina Rotunno performing a hip-hop dance to the song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Sadie Carpenter also represented the Senior class by singing “Tremble”. Finally, the last performance for the senior class was Matthew Azua, Emiliano Mendez, Aaron Gutierrez, and Damian Cabrera with Mr. Sorensen for the first annual Homecoming pie eating contest! The Junior class was represented by Leka Takapu singing a song on his ukelele, and a group of junior, freshman, and sophomore boys, as well as Mr. Nolan, performed “patito juan” with special guest Mr. Pinkard. In the sophomore class, we had Maddie Marquis playing and singing on the piano and Grant Wilkins on the drums. Each class made a video representing a theme for this week and had to follow 3 guidelines for their video. Each class needed to creatively feature an eagle, a staff member, and cereal. It is unanimous, but the winner of the class video is the junior class. The winner of the talent show is Maddie Marquis from the sophomore class.
The freshman float is Wheaties - sports-themed. Sophomores are captain crunch - tropical day, the Junior’s have Life cereal - career day, and the senior class is raisin bran- senior citizen. The winners of the float are the freshman class.

A Joyful Noise
by Josiah Burkhart
Here at Immanuel worship has always been at the forefront of our school spirit. It's easy to have it be such an important part of the identity of immanuel with such an excellent worship band. Ethan Garcia, senior, had our star bass player a lot to say about the worship team and his experience. He shared a lot about how much he's been inspired by John Walstrom, the old bass player Watching John inspired Ethan to join the team.
He also had so much to say about his highlights of worship, such as playing with the Wilkins family through the ages from Luke Wilkins to our very own Grant Wilkins. He said even at the “worst” times he's been having nothing but fun even with their backs against the wall. But he's specifically loved when the chapel became one big group again Ethan said “seeing all those people fill the stage space and worship and get so into it when they haven't played those songs in years.” They also have lots of new musical projects to introduce and can't wait! Ethan's favorite song he's performed is do it again.
Grant also has loved his time in worship and told
us all about his time in worship He started playing drums because of his dad and older brother. He said his favorite part of being on the worship team is playing with his friends and meeting new people. He looks back on last year fondly, especially when they played O come to the altar he's so excited about all the skills being brought to the table for the band and hopes they play his favorite song For the Cross.
Logan, one of our star singers, had a lot to share as well. He says the main influence would definitely be his father He's always been there for him, he was telling us. He was saying how close he's gotten with the group and that making friends for life is his favorite part of fundamentals. He says his favorite worship fundamentals, experience and memory was all last year. Logan is super excited for this year as he feels the team is really tight and close so they're performances are going to be great. From what I've seen so far I'd have to agree!

Meet our Journalism teacher, Mrs. Kodman!
by Sienna Mehling
We are so excited to introduce our Journalism teacher to you! This is Mrs. Kodman’s first year at Immanuel and her first year teaching. She is teaching eighth-grade English and Journalism! She is super excited to share about herself, so you guys can get to know her better.
What brought you to Immanuel?
Two years ago, two of my kids started attending elementary school here at Immanuel We felt blessed to find an amazing school with a great community and a heart for the Lord, and teaching wasn't even on my mind, but we just loved the community Fast forward to this summer, I was working at RMBC with youth ministries, and I saw an ad on Facebook that Immauel was looking for an English teacher I thought it would be such an amazing opportunity, but brushed the idea aside because of how life had led me to staying home and working at church part time, plus four children to care for! I talked to my husband because it kept coming up, and he was super supportive and told me to go for it. We prayed about it, and it happened so fast. Within a week of contacting the school, I had been highered. The Lord led me every step of the way, and it was so right. I couldn't turn it down, the lord just handed it to me I was truly called to be here
Is there a special talent that you have?
I play the guitar. I’ve been playing for close to 20 years
What has been your favorite memory here so far?
Praying with students during lunch. I've had several opportunities and had students come in for prayer, and
I have never thought I would be able to experience something like this It truly is a blessing to have the opportunity to meet with students and pray with them
What is something you are hoping to bring to this campus?
My goal for my students this year is to learn how to cast their anxiety and fear on the Lord because it has always been something I’ve struggled with since I was a teenager Whether it is an assignment or things going on at home, I always want to be a resource for them if they need anything and always bring them back to the Lord I want to have a relationship with each of my students. I always have my door open, and they are always welcome to be in here, and they do, which has been a blessing.
What is your favorite food?
Thai or sushi- Hands down!
What is your favorite Bible verse?
Philippians 4:6 rejoice in the Lord always I will say it again; rejoice! Do not be anxious about anything but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present requests to God
Issue 2 Page 6
Where did you go to High School and College?
I went to Clovis East High School, briefly went to Fresno City, took some courses at Fresno State, and ultimately received my Bachelor’s Degree from University of Phoenix in 2013
Tell me a little bit about your family.
My husband, Kyle, and I have 4 kids, Hudson, 9; Hailey, 7; Henry, 2 ½, and Avery 18 months. As a family we love to do anything outdoors. The beach, the mountains, anything at all!. We have a cabin and love to go four wheeling. We attend RMBC and are very active there and participate in small groups as a family. My son loves to read, my daughter is super artsy and my younger two are wild and love to play. We have a dog, a Great Pyrenees named Ahni, 10 chickens, and a Chameleon! We are definitely a busy bunch!
What is your biggest fear?
Honestly, spiders and cockroaches, I can’t. They are just SICK. Once in college, I had a cockroach crawl across me when I was sleeping in college, and I just jumped out of bed and was not happy. Ever since then, I couldn’t take it
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Free time Well, I honestly don’t get a whole lot of free time! But when I do, I love to bake, I love to craft with my Cricut machine, and, of course, spend time with my family. I also love to have my own personal reading time, and not just read the books we are reading for school!
What would be the first thing you'd do if you won the lottery?
Well I guess I would probably pay of all my student loans. After that, I would set up my kids. I would make sure they would be able to have a down payment on a house and make sure they were all set up.

Eagle Eats
by Josiah Burkhart
Being a student in the culinary arts here at immanuel makes one appreciate finer foods. Where then could one go when wanting the highest quality highest class food reedley has to offer? Eagles landing of course! Where the service is incredible, and the food is better. Hungry in the morning? Try some biscuits and gravy, lunchtime rolling around? How about the Immanuel Man McRib? But I'm not just here to talk about all the amazing delicacies, just a select few After all, what fuels the immanuel man and immanuel woman? And today's breakfast item on the menu is biscuits and gravy. I cannot sing their praises enough.
The warm gravy toppled over buttery breaded biscuits, how could you not want one of those every morning? Now I hear you. I do “josiah what about lunch i don't get breakfast that's for dweebs'’ yes i hear you. Now this weeks item is the hot wings. Believe me, i've only had better from my mama. If you were around me when i was eating those you know how much i loved them. The sauce was delicious, the perfect mixture of sweet and a little bit of spicy. Those who think salt is spicy would be able to scarf these wings down anytime. Tune in next time where I'll discuss with you. Is the coffee shop in school as good or better than people say? We’ll find out!
