Congratulations, Class of 2022!

Wow, how it has been a whirlwind of a year, and I can’t believe four years have already gone by. I am so thankful for the Immanuel faculty.

They have left a lasting impact on my life. If I have learned anything from my time here, it would be to get involved. Although our years at Immanuel are coming to an end we have more opportunities to do this in college and beyond. I have had the opportunity to be a part of a variety of things, and met people that I wouldn't have otherwise. These people have made an everlasting impact on my life, and we will continue to be friends once we graduate. The last four years have been full of laughs and memories. I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for our lives through college and beyond.

Night of Worship for Students by Students

With the end of another school year coming to a close, a night of worship became the opportunity for an intimate crowd of students and families to come together and reflect on how God has been working on Immanuel's campus this year.

On Friday Apr. 29, the worship fundamentals team held a student led worship night. Headed up

by Junior Ethan Garcia and Senior Ava Gomez, the team planned a set list of sixteen worship songs, with two originals written by Garcia, titled ‘Your Apprentice’ and ‘Glory Be Revealed’. Garcia shared what inspired the worship night, “I actually participated in a worship night at Mr. Merritt’s church. I’ve never felt so content and at peace just being up there and playing worship songs. I wanted to offer an opportunity for people to have that same experience. Ava actually talked to Merritt about it, and everyone was on board and excited about the idea.”

The team planned this special event for high school and junior high students, but opened it up to families as well. The night was planned with the intention to celebrate the opportunity Immanuel has to freely worship and bring to light the importance of that.

That key idea was highlighted by Mr. Thomas during this semester’s Spiritual Emphasis week. He challenged the student body with different ways to respond to God in worship. Thomas explained he wanted the students to, “worship in a manner that reflects the truth that we are engaging and worshiping God.” He spoke on being doers of the word, and it is evident the worship funds team fits this description.

The team features a range of students from grade levels ninth through twelfth, all with unique talents, who are an example for the student body that they lead two times a week in Chapel. If you ask any student, they would say that their favorite part of Chapel is the worship time. Normally the band prepares three songs for Chapel, with the expectation all worship Chapels, but this night the band played over an hour and a half of songs uninterrupted for a small but mighty audience.

A 'Clue & A' With Drama Seniors

The Immanuel Performing Arts department has had a successful run of shows this past year. Director of the performing arts department Josh Merritt has led his students in performances of Selfie, Cinderella, Lion King Jr, and now Clue. This is the first time Clue has been performed on Immanuel’s stage. The classic murder mystery story is based off the iconic board game of the same name.

The game was born out of boredom during World War II air raids. Anothony Pratt was inspired by the murder-mystery scenorios played out in European country mansions where the wealthy entertained themselves at parties. From the years 1943 and 1945, he created the iconic characters and weapons, titling it “Murder!”

Now over 75 years since its original invention, the board game is being brought to life on stage through the talents of this year's drama class.

The cast consists of six seniors, all drama veterans, some who have even been in the class all four years of high school. Their work and dedication to the performing arts can be seen through their enthusiasm on and off stage. A few of them took the time to answer some questions about their time in the performing arts and gave insight into how it has impacted their time in high school.

Jamee Lindahl, who played the part of Mrs. Peacock, shared, “When you are on the Immanuel campus you can see how different sports or clubs impact the friendships between students. From the performing arts, I’ve made friends to last a lifetime and have had the opportunity to gain relationships with underclassmen that I would never have spoken to otherwise. It’s encouraging to also see friends come and support you in shows when they aren’t in performing arts.”

Emiliano Sosa, who portrayed Professor Plum, said, “Being a part of drama for so long has not only impacted my high school experience but also my life. In the beginning of high school I was morphed into the stereotypical guy whose priorities were lifting and performing on the field, drama was just a class that was there to fill my schedule. Oh how the tables turned. I grew to fall in love with performing for great crowds on the stage. Through new relationships and the ability to see life from odd characters, I was able to find myself.”

A highlight of being in any show is the memories you create on and off stage. Lindahl recalls, “A favorite memory for me was being in junior high shows.

Though they might not have been a big deal for others, as a kid growing up seeing lots of Immanuel shows, it was a big deal for me to be a part of one myself. I remember the first time I stood on the Immanuel stage it felt almost sacred.”

When asked what life lessons they have learned from being in the performing arts, Riley Chastain, who brought to life Colonel Mustard, shared, “More time spent on something equals a better result.

That’s a rule that applies to many things, but it is especially relevant in performances. When you take the time to prepare properly and you do all the rehearsals, the show will be better and the actors will feel more comfortable being in their character.”

The show featured many hilarious one liners and comical acting. From beginning to end, the characters as well as the audience became immersed in the mystery as they worked themselves deeper into shenanigans, gathering clues to solve the murders and leading to the show’s shocking finale.

FFA Finale

As the school year comes to an end, seniors are busy finalizing colleges, graduating high school and becoming more independent. In the Immanuel FFA chapter, we have three seniors serving on the officer team. Shyanna Ward is our chapter president, Jaden Paboojian is our chapter Vice President, and Julianna McCahill is our chapter Secretary. They were asked questions on how their senior year went, as well as questions relating to their experience in FFA as well as being a chapter officer.

the classroom. The best memories I have in FFA are when I did something outside of the classroom.

Things like winning State Tree Pruning, State Convention and Sacramento Leadership Conference have grown on me so much and have been my favorite times.

What has been a highlight of your senior year? It can be FFA related, or something else?

A few highlights were homecoming, Sacramento Leadership Conference, State Convention, and Powderpuff was something I didn't think I would do but it was so fun!

Do you have any advice for the future chapter officer team?

Don't annoy Ms.Sandberg too much but a little bit is okay. Also be a team! Communicate well and help each other whenever you can.

Jaden Paboojian

How was your senior year?

It was good, crazy it's almost over already! Super busy with all the FFA stuff going on which made it go super fast at the same time.

How was it being not only a role model on campus as a senior, but being a leader within FFA? It was so fun! I love having an opportunity to serve through leadership and planning all the different events in FFA is one of my favorite things.

What advice would you give to somebody that's interested in joining FFA, but is hesitant because of the stigma that it has?

Just go for it and get involved with things outside of

How was your senior year?

My senior year has been memorable. I have had many opportunities to experience my favorite things about high school for one final time. Fall fun day and all the different FFA events were activities that I greatly enjoyed.

How was it being not only a role model on campus as a senior, but being a leader within FFA? It has been a great experience being able to see my impact on the younger classes. With the new eighth grade elective it's truly amazing being able to talk and convince these kids to do more things and be more involved because we need an inspired and truly motivated class coming into high school.

What advice would you give to somebody that's interested in joining FFA, but is hesitant because of the stigma that it has?

FFA is not all about showing and raising animals. I grow succulents and leather ferns and it's how I'm involved. Beyond even growing plants or raising animals there are many opportunities in leadership such as public speaking competitions, which have lifetime effects.

Just give something a try because there is truly something for everyone in this organization.

What has been a highlight of your senior year? It can be FFA related, or something else?

The highlight of my senior year would have to have been the California FFA State Leadership Conference in Sacramento this year. It was an amazing experience to gather with so many FFA members and be able to learn and grow together in or experiences.

Do you have any advice for the future chapter officer team?

Don't let negative emotions toward public speaking keep you from pursuing a higher office. I look back now and my fear of public speaking had gotten in the way of the potential I had to run and serve in a higher position. I try not to be negative about all that I missed out on, but it can be hard looking back, but I am more than thankful for every opportunity that I was able to take advantage of.

Julianna McCahill How was your senior year?

It was okay.

How was it being not only a role model on campus as a senior, but being a leader within FFA? Being a leader in FFA was one of the best experiences I had in high school.

What advice would you give to somebody that's interested in joining FFA, but is hesitant because of the stigma that it has?

I would say for anyone who is hesitant about ffa to just join it and participate in the different activities.

There are lots of different teams and competitions you can join, they’re all really fun and a different experience than you might not get the opportunity to participate in.

What has been a highlight of your senior year?

It can be FFA related, or something else?

The highlight for my senior year was participating on the officer team, that definitely has been my favorite experience of all of high school. I’m going to miss not seeing some of the people here.

Do you have any advice for the future chapter officer team?

My advice to the future officer team would be to really take advantage of your time served because it goes by really fast. Just say yes to doing everything because looking back I wish I did every thing when I had the chance.

Advice From the Class of 2022

As the year comes to a close and the seniors are moving on to bigger and better things, a few of the seniors were asked “what advice would you give to the upcoming junior class?” Here are their responses.

Shyanna Ward I would say, do all the senior things even if you’re tired.

Also, reach out to a lot of people because you’ll look back and be really glad you did. Also, DON’T take an AP class with Mr. Ayers!

Hector Davila Take it all in.

Seriously, it sounds cliche but it's true.

You’re only in high school for 4 years.

Senior year IS that last year. Realize the influence you have, and that you are being watched and looked up to by the underclassmen.

Don’t let this higher position corrupt your state of mind. Invest in a group of Freshmen. Take time to talk to them. They’ll never forget it. Be diligent on and off-campus and make the most of your time.

Amiris Person Do whatever makes you happy and don’t succumb to the pressures of what society or the student body tells you to do.

Don’t hesitate to act on things you aspire to do and work towards goals and continue to be flexible and openminded as a student and as you move through your senior year. Also, continue to follow God and ask him for wisdom and guidance.

Aaliyah Escamilla The advice I would have would be to not wait for someone else to take charge and strive to be the person who makes the first step. Actions such as knowing when someone needs prayer or help is needed in school events.

Holden Thomas My advice to the junior class who are becoming leaders on campus is to focus on treating underclassmen as important and striving to build relationships with them. I think that building a community starts with the younger generations, so when leaders are able to build connections with them it goes a very long way. Focusing on building relationships with freshmen, junior highers or even elementary schoolers makes a lasting impact on them and the Immanuel community as a whole.

Riley Chastain Have as much fun as time allows!

Alex Hughes Don’t wait until the last minute to think about your future and college. Take your future into your own hands and start planning early. It really pays off in the end.

Also, don’t waste time senior year. It goes by fast so spend time with the people you love, go to the events you want to, but also know there are better things to come. This isn’t the peak of your life, this is just the beginning of what great things are going to come.

Jamee Lindahl --Time flies, enjoy it. It’s a cliche but it’s true. It felt like the days of this school year were slow but the year flew by.

--Go to every event possible, every game, anything because one day you’ll miss it.

--Start looking at colleges now. It’s important to start figuring out what you like and don’t like in colleges.

And be sure to keep an open mind to any college.

--Keep up on that school work because even though it may seem like it doesn’t matter it does to get into colleges and scholarships.

--Get a good parking spot and defend it. I’m not sure if I’m lazy but I would hate to have to walk to the back of the parking lot at the end of a long day to get home.

--Caffeine. That’s it. Just caffeine. It speaks for itself.

--Take every chapel seriously and take time to process and apply all that you hear to your life.

--Start using a calendar. I’m not good at marking things in a calendar but I sure wish I was because there is a lot happening at the end of the school year and I’m afraid I’m going to forget something.

--Take this opportunity to lead. It might not seem like it but the student body looks up to you so this is that time to set a good example and also look for ways to serve underclassmen.

Having power should mean serving others not lording over them just as Jesus had all the power but instead chose to serve others.

--Be open to taking classes you might not usually take. After a few years of high school, many students take the same electives every year now is the time to branch out. As a senior, you will probably have some extra class periods so try an elective you normally wouldn’t take. I did this and took interior design and regret not taking it all four years.

Class of 2022: Remembering Immanuel

by Nievah Martinez High school consists of, seemingly, four long years.

Each year holds within itself a sense of newness, ranging from new friendships, to new classes. Every year we work hard on assignments, organize and schedule our activities that we become involved in, juggle playing a sport while trying to finish homework assignments, and, hopefully, get to hangout and make memories with friends. Four long years of high school suddenly turns into one month before graduation, and as we approach our time at Immanuel coming to an end, a reflection on memories made and our growth throughout the years while here at Immanuel is a bittersweet topic, but one that will leave an indelible mark on our lives.

Immanuel brought something unique and different to every Senior in the Class of 2022. We each held a role of importance to the Immanuel campus, whether it be the various Seniors involved in STUCO who were ever willing to plan and organize events, or the multiple Seniors who took part in sports and represented the name of Immanuel, or the Seniors in the FFA program who dedicated much time and energy to their tasks, and of course, the Seniors involved in chapel band, as they led us in worship every Tuesday and Thursday. Each individual Senior has left an impact on Immanuel, and of course, we have been impacted in several ways and I thought it important to interview a few of the Seniors themselves, so that they could share how they will remember Immanuel and the impact that the school has had on them during their time here.

Senior Jaden Pabojian and Shyanna Ward have devoted themselves to Immanuel's FFA program, and during their time of work have accomplished many things, created lasting friendships, and gained knowledge that they will carry with them throughout their lives. Ward stated, when asked what has been the most memorable experience during her time at Immanuel, "Probably winning a state title in fruit tree pruning with FFA."

Sometimes we grow though unexpected ways, and when I asked Paboojian how Immanuel has impacted him in a way that he wasn't expecting, he stated, "Immanuel has given me the opportunity for leadership through FFA. When I first joined FFA I never would have expected myself to grow and prosper in the ways that I have."

Nicole Ward, who was our student body president for this school year, shared with me the impact that Immanuel and its faculty has left on her, as well as a rather comical memory that she often recalls, that took place during her years of high school. Nicole stated, "Immanuel has impacted my faith immensely. Being able to attend chapels, bible classes, and bible studies were very inspiring to me." She also stated, "I love the atmosphere here at Immanuel and it has greatly impacted my life."

Nicole also mentioned that she holds a great appreciation for the teachers here at Immanuel, and the example that they offer to their students. She stated, "I am so grateful for all my teachers and the friendship that I've made with them. They are always willing to help with anything, alongside encouraging us in everything we do." Nicole also added, "The teachers are not only teaching us in the classroom, but also outside the classroom.

They role model to students what it looks like to live a life for God and lead a Christian life." Nicole’s memory that she will never forget, as she stated, was when she and Shyanna dressed as dinosaurs in the school talent show. She commented, “I will always remember when Shyanna and I danced in dinosaur costumes for our senior Talent Show. Later that year we also got accepted to compete at the FFA State Talent Show in Sacramento, where we danced in our dino costumes."

Being an athlete at Immanuel is something that many of the individuals in the Senior class are well accomplished at and take great pride in. Many have dedicated themselves to being skilled athletes, and their sport has allowed them to create some of their best memories and friendships. Senior Payton Breckenridge stated that her most memorable experience during her time at Immanuel has been being involved in Volleyball. Breckenridge stated,"My most memorable experience during the nine years I have attended Immanuel would definitely have to be the Volleyball season as a whole. I loved growing together as a team in both skill and faith." Senior athlete Kaleb Brett stated that his times of playing baseball at Immanuel will be something that he always remembers.

Brett stated, "I will always remember every single baseball game I got to experience throughout my time at Immanuel." Mariah Rodriguez shared how she will always remember playing softball for Immanuel, and all of the friendships that it allowed her to create. Rodriguez said, "The most memorable experience here at Immanuel has been the bond and friendship I have made with my softball team and the most successful season I had here was this year."

One of the amazing aspects here at Immanuel is the opportunity to join in worship and discuss God amongst our fellow peers in chapel. These chapels have impacted many of the Senior students, and have allowed them to strengthen their personal relationship with God. Senior Aaliyah Escamilla, who is one of our worship leaders during chapel, stated that an experience here at Immanuel that she'll never forget, was her time of being a part of worship here at school. Escamilla stated, "The most memorable experience during my time at Immanuel has probably been being able to be a part of the worship experience. I would have never thought that when I was in high school I would have the privilege to worship God freely." Escamilla also mentioned that the worship night that was put on and led by the worship team, will be something that she never forgets. She said, "A big props to Ethan Garcia, a night I will never forget was the student-led worship night. I had so much fun getting to lead worship with such amazing people. It was such a blessed night."

Senior Jamee Lindhal discussed how her life has been so greatly influenced by the chapels put on by Immanuel, and how they will be something that she will always remember. Lindahl told me, "Chapels, though I may not remember what was said at each one, have had an impact on me just the same and made me the person I am today. " When asked what she will remember most about Immanuel, Jamee stated, '' The chapel. I'd venture to guess that I've spent more hours in the chapel than in the classroom over my time at Immanuel. From Tuesday

Senior Samuel Ramirez also expressed how the chapels have impacted his life, as well as his faith. Ramirez stated, "Being in Chapel and the culture at this school has impacted me in a good way."

Senior Crushes Teachers play a vital role in the high school experience, and are people who we, as students, admire and look to for guidance and leadership. Many of the Seniors have connected with and hold close relationships with the teachers here on campus, and have shared how they personally have been impacted by them. Senior Presley Galpin stated that she has been greatly impacted by Mrs. Van Leuwen, and her kind heart and never ending patience. Galpin stated, “Mrs.V has shown such kindness and patience with me. She is open and will always listen when I need solid advice. She works hard for the school, her family, and even her students. (She deserves a raise).” Another student who has been mentored by, and holds appreciation for, her teacher, is Senior Ava Gomez, who stated that Mrs. Ayers has really impacted and encouraged her love for writing. Gomez stated, “Mrs. Ayers has impacted my life greatly and made me realize my love for writing and she encourages it. If I hadn’t known an English teacher like her, I may not have realized that I want to pursue a career in journalism.”

Senior Jackson McCahill also stated that he has been impacted by his welding teacher, Mr. Ibanez, who has brought him a great deal of knowledge. McCahill said, “I have learned a lot from Mr. Ibanez on a lot of different subjects. He has taught me a lot and had a huge impact on me for my time being at Immanuel.”
