Chin / Cheek Implant Surgery Although they can be used on their own, facial implants are often used in combination with other cosmetic procedures for a more total harmonious rejuvenation. The implants are usually made of soft, solid silicone or porous polyethylene. Younger patients consider implants to improve the balance of specific facial features, while older patients aim to restore volume to sunken regions. Facial implants can improve overall appearance by restoring balance and enhancing your natural contours.
Technique Chin Implants: The procedure is usually performed through a small incision on the inside of the mouth or along the underside of the chin. A pocket is created below the muscle layer, just above your jawbone. The implant is inserted and carefully positioned and usually secured into position with the aid of a small screw. The pocket and skin incision are then sutured close. A small dressing in combination with a compression bandage may be applied to provide comfort and support. Cheek Implants: The cheek implant procedure is usually performed through an incision inside the upper lip. The soft tissue is elevated, and a pocket is created directly over the cheekbone. The implant is inserted and carefully positioned. Occasionally, small surgical screws are used to attach the implants to the bone.
