Salvation The Importance of the Ordo Salutis
Salvation
Salvation What is Salvation?
Salvation is a process by which people are brought into a right relationship with God and are liberated from the wages of sin which is the Second Death, or eternal absence from God. To be “saved” is to say one has received the atonement of Christ and is prepared for His ultimate and eventual redemption of one’s soul into eternal life in the presence of God.

Who can be saved? Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord
With both doctrinal and experiential alignment
Romans 10 5 For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands.[c] 6 But faith’s way of getting right with God says, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven?’ (to bring Christ down to earth). 7 And don’t say, ‘Who will go down to the place of the dead?’ (to bring Christ back to life again).” 8 In fact, it says,
Romans 10 4 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
“The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Acts 2 40 And with many other words did (Peter) testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayer
How do we Call on the Name of the Lord? By Confessing Faith in the Gospel of Christ Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Acts 15:16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
And by Invoking His Name in Water Baptism Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Acts 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38 And (the Eunuch) commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and (Philip) baptized him. Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 1 Pet 3:21 even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Not everyone who calls will be saved. We Must Do God’s Will Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matt 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Acts 5:5 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
And our Confession MUST be sincere. Acts 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. … 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. 23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity 24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the LORD for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

What about The Sinner’s Prayer? Billy Graham: “Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen.”
Joel Osteen “Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins. Come into my heart. Wash me clean. I make you my Lord and Saviour. Friend, if you prayed that simple prayer we believe you got born again
The Sinner’s Prayer - FALSE ●
● ● ●
It is not in the Bible. This prayer does NOT confer salvation- it is a false product of pop-christianity which offers false hope and bypasses much of the Word. The MAN christ Jesus does not enter our hearts, it is the Holy Spirit which does that by way of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit Our sins are “washed clean” by way of Water Baptism in Jesus’ Name not a rote prayer. It is blasphemy to think we can MAKE Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He already IS those things whether or not we understand, agree, or obey. All knees will bow and all tongues will confess to His Lordship John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Salvation is not an EVENT or a PRAYER it is a PROCESS.
Soteriology
Soteriology is the study of religious doctrines of salvation, and is a branch of theology. The term comes from the Greek words soterion which means "salvation" and soter which means
Soteriology
"savior".
The Study of Salvation
concerned with who is saved, by whom, from
(Soterion - salvation) + (o - of) + (logy - study)
Soteriology is a major theme in the Bible and is what, and by what means. In Christianity, soteriology is also known as Christian ethics and
Σωτηριολογία
is especially concerned with how Jesus Christ effects salvation.

Protestant Soteriology - Synergism SYNERGISM
SYNERGISM APPLIED
In Christian theology, synergism is the belief that salvation involves some form of cooperation between divine grace and human freedom in order to be regenerated. Most synergists hold that God initiates all the work but that the work of salvation requires "free will,"
In synergism, God opens the eyes and ears of a person to both see and hear the Salvation of God before (s)he has faith. That person, however, can reject this revelation and maintain their desire to remain as they are.
Synergists maintain that God, in his grace, calls all human beings to follow him, but he allows the "free will" of the individual to not respond to him. Synergism is upheld by the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Churches, Oriental Orthodox Churches, Anabaptist Churches, Anglican Churches, and Methodist Churches. It is an integral part of Arminian theology common in the General Baptist and Methodist traditions.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prevenient_grace
Most synergists believe man is unable to do good but God has extended grace to all people which gives them the ability to have faith in Christ. Synergists believe salvation is a matter of human and divine synergy, not divine choice alone without human cooperation. Synergists maintain that God does not save certain individuals because they do not desire to be saved
Jacobus Arminius (1560-1609) - Synergist In attempting to defend Calvinistic predestination, Arminius began to doubt aspects of Calvinism and modified some parts of his own view. He attempted to reform Calvinism, and lent his name to a movement—Arminianism—which resisted some of the Calvinist tenets (unconditional election, the nature of the limitation of the atonement, and irresistible grace). The early Dutch followers of his teaching became known as Remonstrants after they issued a document containing five points of disagreement with mainstream Calvinism, entitled Remonstrantiæ (1610). Arminius wrote that he sought to teach only those things which could be proved from the Scriptures and that tended toward edification among Christians (with the exception of Roman Catholics, with whom he said there could be no spiritual accord). Arminius taught of a "preventing" (or prevenient) grace that has been conferred upon all by the Holy Spirit and this grace is "sufficient for belief, in spite of our sinful corruption, and thus for salvation. Arminius stated that "the grace sufficient for salvation is conferred on the Elect, and on the Non-elect; that, if they will, they may believe or not believe, may be saved or not be saved.
Protestant Soteriology - Monergism MONERGISM
MONERGISM APPLIED
Monergism is the view within Christian theology which holds that God works through the Holy Spirit to bring about the salvation of an individual through spiritual regeneration, regardless of the individual's cooperation.
According to monergists, all persons are conceived and born with an unregenerate human nature, and faith to believe is beyond their power.
Monergism states that the regeneration of an individual is the work of God through the Holy Spirit alone, and that God alone initiates and completes all the work of salvation. The monergist believes in heralding the gospel indiscriminately, and the Holy Spirit regenerates whom He will, according to its sovereign grace. Monergism is most often associated with Lutheranism, as well as with the Reformed tradition (such as Presbyterianism, low church Anglicanism, Puritans, Dutch Reformed Church, Reformed Baptist etc.) and its doctrine of irresistible grace
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monergism
The unregenerate person, because of his fallen nature, is in slavery to sin (i.e. the person chooses sin because that is what he/she wants); and because he/she is dead in sin before God's regeneration, in this state he/she is unable to choose God (because God is not desired; the person may want the gifts from God, but not God). The natural person, apart from the quickening work of the Holy Spirit, will not come to Christ on his/her own; since the person is at enmity with God; and so, will not understand spiritual things. Reading or hearing the word of God alone cannot elicit saving faith in the reader. The monergist believes in heralding the gospel indiscriminately, and the Holy Spirit regenerates whom He will, according to its sovereign grace.
John Calvin (1509-1564) - Monergist John Calvin was a French theologian, pastor and reformer in Geneva during the Protestant Reformation. He supplied the dogma, the liturgy, and the moral ideas of the new religion, and he also created ecclesiastical, political, and social institutions in harmony with it. He was a principal figure in the development of the system of Monergistic Christian theology later called Calvinism, including its doctrines of predestination and of God's absolute sovereignty in the salvation of the human soul from death and eternal damnation. Calvin's authority was practically uncontested during his final years, and he enjoyed an international reputation as a reformer distinct from Martin Luther. Calvin actively participated in the polemics that were exchanged between the Lutheran and Reformed branches of the Reformation movement. In 1556 Justus Velsius, a Dutch dissident, held a public disputation with Calvin defending free will against Calvin's doctrine of predestination. The turning point in Calvin's fortunes occurred when Michael Servetus, a brilliant Spanish polymath who introduced the concept of pulmonary circulation to Europe, became a fugitive from ecclesiastical authorities, after he published The Restoration of Christianity (1553). Servetus was arrested based on a list of heresy accusations drafted Calvin's secretary, Nicholas de la Fontaine. Catholic inquisitors asked that he be extradited to them for execution, but Calvin wanted to show that he was as firm in defense of Christian orthodoxy as his opponents, and determined "to push the condemnation of Servetus with all the means at his command". The convening council condemned Servetus as a heretic and the following day he was sentenced to burning alive at the stake, alive at the Plateau of Champel at the edge of Geneva.

The Problem with Monergism According to monergism, the only reason that one person is saved and another is not is because God sovereignly decided, without any conditions provided by the two individuals, to save one of them. It follows that the only reason people are not saved is because God sovereignly chooses not to save some individuals. Therefore, monergism is said to lead to the conclusion that God does not in fact love every human being nor want to save every person.

The Idea of Prevenient Grace Prevenient grace (or preceding grace or enabling grace) is a Christian theological concept that refers to the grace of God in a person's life which precedes and prepares to conversion. The concept was first developed by Augustine of Hippo (354–430), was affirmed by the Second Council of Orange (529) and has become part of Catholic theology. It is also present in Reformed theology, through the form of an effectual calling leading some individuals irresistibly to salvation. It is also in Arminian theology, according to which it is dispensed universally in order to enable people to respond to the offer of salvation, though it does not ensure personal acceptance. There are some variations of understanding of the prevenient grace, in terms of intent of God: ● ● ●
In Roman Catholic theology, it is a predisposing grace which helps to believe. In Arminian theology, it is an enabling grace which helps to believe. In Reformed theology, it is comparable simultaneously to two concepts: a. common grace which doesn't improve man's depraved unregenerate nature and has no salvific purpose and b. the effectual calling by which God calls to irresistibly believe
Some refer to the Arminian concept of prevenient grace as "universal enablement." They characterize the Arminian view as teaching that God has restored to every individual the ability to seek after God and choose salvation. Nevertheless, Arminians consider that prevenient grace is rather individually directed than universally directed. They consider it is the enabling influence of the Holy Spirit on a human person in a "relational dynamic—a back-and-forth, influence-and-response, relational movement. Like other interpersonal forms of communication and influence, it is something that can come and go" Calvinists argue that because this grace is supposedly given to all alike, the determining factor in salvation becomes the will of man. They see this libertarian will and choice of the individual as a good work required for salvation and thus an implicit rejection of salvation by grace alone.

Ordo Salutis
Ordo Salutis Lat. “order of salvation”
The term ordo salutis (Latin: "order of salvation") refers to a series of conceptual steps within the Christian doctrine of salvation.
Ordo Salutis Ordo salutis has been defined as "a technical term of Protestant dogmatics to designate the consecutive steps in the work of the Holy Spirit in the appropriation of salvation". Although within Christian theology there is a certain sense in which the phases of salvation are sequential, some elements are understood to occur progressively and others instantaneously. Furthermore, some steps within the "order of salvation" are regarded as objective (or monergistic), performed solely by God, while others are considered subjective (or synergistic), involving humanity. Christians prior to the Protestant Reformation, while not using the exact phrase, sought to order the elements of salvation.
