The 2019-2020 school year was a year like no other. The coronavirus crisis created unprecedented circumstances for our entire community, yet Harford Day School was able to remain true to its mission: “...to provide disciplined, individualized education by stimulating and fostering the development of each child so that he or she will acquire sound habits of thought and expression and the best traits of personal character. It seeks to encourage respect for hard work and the disposition to do required tasks well by reason of honest effort. Besides thorough training in the essential skills, the program offers each student the opportunity to develop independence, imagination, curiosity, and responsibility.”

LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
As we concluded the 2019-20 school year, I think of wonderful highlights, and I also reflect on challenges overcome. I am exceptionally grateful to our teachers for rising to those challenges and to our parents for partnering with us as we navigated uncharted waters. For the past 63 years, HDS has provided exceptional instruction, unique learning experiences, and individualized attention in a caring and responsive community. We have accomplished this over the years through the hard work and commitment of dedicated faculty and staff and through the tremendous support the School has received from our donors. The long term financial impact of the pandemic is still unknown—from how we staff our classrooms, enrollment challenges, adoption of additional safeguards to reopen, and increasing financial assistance to families in need of help during trying times. Additionally, the COVID-19 crisis has put a dramatic strain on fundraising, which Harford Day, like all non-profit independent schools, depends upon. To those of you who were able to make a gift to the Annual Fund this year, thank you for your support. Every gift counts, now more than ever. As we prepare for the start of school in September, the logistics are, indeed, challenging, but entirely worth our very best efforts on behalf of our students. In the past, Harford Day School has held two major events each year to raise the funds necessary to support the operating budget. While the winter Frost & Flannel fundraiser was a success, the spring golf tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19. In response to this unexpected circumstance, Athletic Director Paula Farrell invited students, parents, grandparents, former parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends to Get Movin’ on June 3rd and support HDS. It was a fun way to end the school year, participate in the Annual Fund, and to celebrate Mrs. Farrell’s 30 years of service to Harford Day.
