Greetings Harford Day School Families and Community, We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of Harford Day School. The year 2017-2018 brought an exciting milestone in our School’s history, as we celebrated our 60th year. A wonderful evening of Art Under the Stars showcased our commitment to the arts by featuring several local artists including Jim Butcher, Mary Swann, and Joan Hodous. A highlight of the year was a generous gift from alumnus Bill Reese. The Reese family hosted the School’s 50th celebration, and Bill’s mother, Kitty, was an active volunteer at our school in the early years. Other donations from our supporters yielded a renovation of our Art Gallery, the conversion of the MPR into a community dining space, and initial plans for both our new classroom Innovation Lab and campus greenhouse. Facilities improvements and upgrades were begun as we worked to ensure the overall security of our campus. We are grateful to Dr. Gray Smith for his leadership with these and other projects completed during his four year tenure as Head of School. Ashleigh Wilkes was appointed as the Interim Head for the 2018-19 as the School embarks on a national search for the next Head of School. The Annual Fund allows us to provide additional opportunities for our students. Your commitment to HDS has enabled us to advance our academic programs and expand extracurricular offerings. As we strive to “make every day count” at HDS, your participation in the Annual Fund and contributions to our School community are invaluable in helping us reach our goals. With your support our future is bright. We are excited to embark on a new year as a National Blue Ribbon School. CELEBRATING 60 When Harford Day opened its doors in September of 1957, it marked the realization of a dream of a small group of families who wanted to provide an educational choice for families with young children. In honor of our 60th year, alumni, current and former parents, current and former faculty and trustees came together to celebrate at our Art Under the Stars, Celebrating 60 Years gala. Our founders would be so proud of their School today! Sixty years later Harford Day has been able to sustain the excellence of its programs and evolve to meet the needs of its students through the dedication of a talented faculty and leadership.

Annual Fund campaign: Celebrating 60 Years Harford Day kicked off the school year with an Annual Fund campaign: Celebrating 60 Years. With a gift of $560, donors were given

Your purpose is to roll the barrel along to the next decade and the next. As today’s and tomorrow’s children tumble out of Harford Day School, laughing, they will not know that they have a lifetime’s foundation in thinking and learning. I support events at the School. Why do I also need to give to the Annual Fund? The Annual Fund is our biggest fundraiser. All families are asked to participate not only to raise funds, but also to show support for the School. The percentage of parents who participate in the Annual Fund sends an important message to our community about the value our parents place on a Harford Day education. Parent participation is the fundraising metric that philanthropic foundations use to determine whether or not they, too, will support the School. Unlike our events which may change from time to time and may be more or less profitable from one year to the next, the Annual Fund will always be our main fundraiser and the one most readily counted on for a stable

MISSION The aim of the Harford Day School is to provide disciplined, individualized education by stimulating and fostering the development of each child so that he or she will acquire sound habits of thought and expression and the best traits of personal character.
