Lioness Mohoje is an artist from Katlehong, Ekurhuleni. I am a singer and songwriter. I represent all the kids from the hood who have dreams to realise, regardless of their challenging backgrounds

Most of the musicians, especially live bands musicians, were groomed at church, what was the most challenge you had within the church environment as a musician?

Church contributed to my confidence to take the mic. When I was singing at church I was very young and just did it for the love of it, I was so young that I didn’t even pay attention to any other thing outside of just giving praise and worship to God.

We see you are multi-talented artist, can you share with us your journey as a radio broadcaster and how has it been working with different artists?

I am grateful to have worked on radio for the longest time, I got to interview some of the big names in the music industry, it gave me the opportunity to learn a lot of things from the background, many of the lessons I now use to progress as an artist myself.

What does Africa Day mean to you as an African musician?

Africa Day to me (even beyond being a musician) means the celebration of who we are, our diversity, our strength as Africans. It is an opportunity to never forget who we are and the potential we have to grow even for generations to come.

What inspired you to name your EP "Dipotso"? Anyfeedback(good or bad) from your fans?

I love playing with words, so Dipotso is one of the songs I have on the EP however, I went with “Dipotso” as the title of the EP because when you listen to the full body of work, it may leave you with some questions, it may give you the courage to ask some questions.

How do you want to be remembered as time goes?

I want to be remembered as someone who loves what she does. A person who is passionate about her community. A multifaceted creative and entrepreneur.

Some of the stages that you have performed on are very prestigious, how do you handle the pressure of stepping on stage after a prominent artist’s performance?

I don’t believe in competing with anyone but myself in life generally, the same applies for me even in music. I believe I was called to do what I do, so I am there to fulfill my purpose as well. I never really think about the who’s who on the lineup except for when I appreciate how far I’ve come.
