This year, Collage is occurring at an auspicious time for our community as it coincides with the first day of National Hispanic Heritage month. Reflecting upon all the good and sweet things that so many Hispanic leaders bring to our community, we are delighted to be honoring Mr. Carlos Melguizo and Mr. Saul Sanchez in recognition of their generosity of time, talent and treasure towards expanding the museum’s fundraising capabilities. Together, with Carlos serving on the IMAS Board of Trustees for six consecutive years, he and Saul have positively positioned Collage as a cultural experience and destination in itself! In appreciation of Carlos and Saul’s leadership, and in tandem with the celebration of our Hispanic Americans here in the Rio Grande Valley, we are also pleased to present the internationally acclaimed exhibit The Latino List: Photographs by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, on loan from the San Antonio Museum of Art. This exhibit presents influential Latinos from the worlds of culture, business, politics and sports. Each year, the funds raised through Collage help the museum fulfill its mission by presenting a wide range of engaging art and science exhibits, cultural events and educational programs to all people, regardless of income level. By engaging our children, by preserving and interpreting our cultural heritage, and by giving tourists another reason to visit McAllen, the IMAS helps expand our region’s educational, cultural, and economic development.
