A Collection of Daily Qur'anic Reflections Rebuilding Love for the Qur'an Through Tadabbur of 25 Selected Ayahs
Aemeyra Published by:
Foreword
Reading this work, I see its potential to become a beautiful beginning, a gentle invitation for ordinary people to embark on their own journey of tadabbur (reflection upon the Qur’an). It is a journey that requires no academic title or formal religious training, only a sincere heart that longs to know its Creator, and a thoughtful selection of verses whose meanings and guidance are clear for anyone seeking them. The
author
writes
with
honesty
and
vulnerability. She shares the joys and struggles of leaving a comfortable career to dive deep into the ocean of Qur’anic wisdom. Each of her reflection feels like a heartfelt conversation written not to instruct, but to invite readers to pause, think, and see how the Qur’an speaks to the rhythms of everyday life.
7
She begins her journey with Surah al-Fatihah, the Opening Chapter of the Qur’an, recited daily by every Muslim. She unpacks its meaning as the foundation of a spiritual journey, reminding us that amidst the busyness of life, we are taught to return to the essence of faith: “Guide us to the straight path” (al-Fatihah, 1:6), a prayer that becomes our compass in a world full of distractions. In the chapter titled “Success and the Tree That We Plant,” drawn from Surah al-Mu’minun (23:1–2), author Aemeyra invites us to redefine success through the lens of the Qur’an. The verse reminds us that true success is not measured by titles or possessions, but by faith and humility: “Indeed, successful are the believers who are humble in their prayers.” Likewise, in all the other chapters that follow, she reflects on the divine purpose of life. The verses of the Qur’an are our guidance for meaning and direction, reminding us that devotion is not separate from life, but the very heart of it. Through these chapters, the author skillfully connects divine revelation to the realities of modern life. Her writing shows that the verses of the Qur’an are alive around us, waiting to be understood and
8
lived, especially by women navigating careers, family, and self-discovery in the 21st century. This is not a rigid academic text, but rather the diary of a friend, one who gently takes your hand and leads you towards the light of tranquillity. This book reminds us that the Qur’an can be a companion listening to our silent prayers, answering with verses that soothe the heart. Allah
Almighty
Himself
declares:
“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.” (Surah Sad, 38:29) This verse beautifully reinforces that tadabbur, deep reflection upon the Qur’an, is for everyone. Each of us is called to ponder, to draw lessons, and to let divine guidance illuminate our path. At Tadabbur Centre, we deeply celebrate works like this, creative, heartfelt, and accessible, that bring the spirit of Qur’anic reflection to the wider community. This book is more than a collection of insights; it is a mirror in which readers can see themselves reassessing intentions, renewing purpose, and rekindling love for the Qur’an.
9
Through her experiences and reflections, author Aemeyra reminds us that anyone can begin this journey of tadabbur. The Qur’an was not revealed for scholars alone, it is a healing for all hearts seeking truth. May Allah bless the author’s sincere effort, and may this humble work continue to bring light, comfort, and faith to many.

12 Principles of Tadabbur al-Qur’an for Everyday Readers by Ustadh Syaari Ab Rahman, Tadabbur Centre
1.
Begin with a Purified Heart
Tadabbur is not just about reading or interpreting the Qur’an. It is about uncovering the divine guidance behind each verse. The first step is to purify the heart by seeking refuge in Allah (isti‘azah) before beginning reflection. Allah commands His servants to seek protection whenever they recite the Qur’an.
The phrase “A‘ūdhu billāhi mina al-shaytāni al-rajīm” is not an empty ritual. It is an expression of humility, an acknowledgment of our weakness and dependence on Allah. It trains us to begin with a clean heart, free from the whispers that could distort meaning. Author Aemeyra begins her book with Surah al-Fatihah and highlights the verse “You (alone) we worship and You (alone) we ask for help.” The structure of the verse shifts the focus to the object
11
of worship, reminding us that we must begin every reflection by seeking Allah’s protection and aligning our intention with Him. Without this step, the Qur’an becomes mere text, and our hearts may be distracted by doubt.
2.
Allow the Qur’an to Lead You
The second principle teaches us not to pick verses that fit our personal desires. The Qur’an is qayyiman, the upholder of truth, so we must let it guide us instead of forcing it to support what we already want. Every verse contains wisdom and benefit, even if it challenges our comfort.
When approaching the Qur’an, we should come as servants seeking guidance, not as consumers seeking confirmation. The Qur’an must become our compass, not something we twist to follow the current of society. The author shares her story of the “rat race” in modern life, where success is often measured by wealth and status. The verse “Successful indeed are the believers, those who are humble in their prayers”

1. Khalil — The Friend That You Need
I once set an ambitious goal to learn the Qur’an from cover to cover, surah by surah, verse by verse. There are over 6,000 verses in the Qur’an. This means there are over 6,000 lessons, reminders, affirmations, rulings, prohibitions, and words of comfort that you can read, reflect upon, digest and eventually put into practice in your daily life. I have read many self-help books in search of ways to live better, to move on from a bitter past and step fearlessly into the future. Yet it was verse 5 of Surah al-Fatihah that made me ponder life differently.
َ َاَك ََن ۡۡع ُُب ُُد ِإَوَّي َ َِإ َّي ُ اَك َن َ ۡۡس ََتِع ٥ ُني ِ ِ “You (alone) we worship and You (alone) we ask for help” Surah al-Fatihah, verse 5
26
It is profound that the essence of our entire religion can be summarised in this one short verse (as stated in the voluminous book Madarij As-Salikin written by Ibn Qayyim). The beauty of this verse lies not only in its meaning, but also in the way it is phrased, both grammatically and linguistically. “You (alone) we worship” is not the standard way of writing in English. It inverts the usual structure, which would have been written as “We worship You alone.” However, nothing is accidental when it comes to Allah. Flipping the phrase back to front places emphasis on the object being worshipped – You (Allah). In simpler terms, before worshipping or seeking help, we must first focus our attention and intention on who we are worshipping and seeking help from. That was when I realised that the 6,000 verses in the Qur’an are actually made up of multiple layers of meanings – secrets, Arabic grammatical structures, and intricately woven lessons that are far beyond the casual reader’s grasp. I re-evaluated my goal and decided to become a lifelong learner.
27
The Qur’an has since become like a quiet deep ocean that continually sparks my curiosity. With every Qur’an class I attended, whether in person or online, I began to find answers to all my life questions. Life used to feel heavy, sad, and a frustrating rat race. Later, I realised that I did not truly know the One I was worshipping and seeking help from. The flawed, human-made education system we have been brought up in has shaped our perception of our Lord and of this life. Because of this, it is imperative that each of us strives to know Him through a renewed lens and intention. There is no better way to get to know Allah than through His words in the Qur’an. Make the Qur’an your khalil – your closest friend, your companion through every bittersweet journey this life will offer you. These
collections
of
essays
are
personal
reflections from someone who avidly observes nature and the inner dimensions of life. They come from a person who strives to see her Creator in every aspect of her existence; through personal and work experiences, human interactions, and the rollercoaster of emotions that keep her awake at night.
28
Nothing is accidental when it comes to Allah. Take these essays as an invitation from a humbled learner who stands in awe of her Creator and wishes for you to embark on this journey with her, to witness the greatness of Allah together. Wherever you are in your journey, I pray that you find comfort in these reflections, by the will of Allah. All that is good is solely from Allah, and all shortcomings are from me alone.

It takes courage to take the first step, which is to seek real help and surrender your weakened self to Allah. It may feel difficult because you have relied on yourself for so long, but when Allah opens the door for you, He will make it easy.

4. The Invitation You Can’t Ignore
Guidance comes in many forms. It may have come to you at many, different times in your life but you might have missed it, misinterpreted it or decided to dismiss it. It may come as a clear call back to Allah, or as a friend who invited you to the Islamic talks, or it may appear as subtle as a stranger on the bus who showed kindness to you. It may appear like a series of hardships, which is often a lot obvious, or it can be a series of blessings that you mistook as your well-deserving reward. The latter is the dangerous one. When life is going your way, you can wrongly perceive it as Allah’s acceptance. However, blessings without worship and gratitude are empty. That was how I felt when I held my beautiful baby girl in my arms but felt sick of it. I was not sick of her, but sick of how exhausted and anxious I felt of this life. At that point in life, I had achieved many things: 46
the husband, the career, the beautiful life I carefully curated for others to see as perfect. After years of grinding and building life abroad, momentarily it felt like relief was here. Our family was thriving, and we were in great health. Despite all that, sitting with my baby girl after being awakened by her multiple times at night broke me. Part of the new job my husband had was to work away. Thus, having to deal with two kids on my own was exhausting. I battled between wanting to savour every moment slowly with my newborn or wanting to quickly get through this daunting phase. This repetition sent me into a spiral. Intrusive thoughts started creeping during those dark, tiring hours. When the little blessing coos happily, I stared back in resentment, guilt, and emptiness. That was when I knew I had ignored too many warning signs. I finally decided it was time to heal so I searched for a therapist. Alhamdulillah,
without
even
prioritising
religion at the time, I was miraculously assigned to a Muslim therapist. She was professional, but her words of guidance were rich in wisdom from the Qur’an, the gentleness of Prophet `, and she would, every now and gently redirect me towards Islam. 47
This beautiful encounter was the knock on the door of light that I had resisted, ignored, and delayed for many years - it got me curious as to what else Islam has to offer. My journey with the Qur’an started right here. Our invitation to the path of light may differ. Yours could be the loss of someone, or the loss of something precious to you. It could be the repeated falls and tumbles despite every effort you make. For some, it could be the hollow feeling of emptiness despite having everything they want. We mistake blessings for reward, when it is actually a test. The remedy to this is to realise that this recurring feeling of pain or emptiness is a symptom of a heart that is experiencing illness. It takes courage to take the first step, which is to seek real help and surrender your weakened self to Allah. It may feel difficult because you have relied on yourself for so long, but when Allah opens the door for you, He will make it easy.

Every time I read this verse, my heart becomes overwhelmed with amazement that He has always been watchful, constantly guiding the hearts He sees contain goodness. He could have turned away and given up on me, but He is the Muqallibal Qulub, the Turner of hearts and He is the Most Merciful. Take your time and ponder the past invitations that you may have dismissed, not in the tone of regret for not answering them, instead, I want you to be in awe. Somehow, out of His mercy, Allah has not changed His decree and still wills that you are continuously invited to embrace His light. I hope when you are reading this chapter, it fills you with delight. This is Allah’s knock. So, will you accept it this time?

5. His Details and Signs
When I began posting about resigning from my job to become a housewife, some friends and even strangers shared with me that they also wished to do the same. What stops them is the worry that life will feel unstimulating. As someone who was used to busy schedules, constantly on the go, and had the means to treat herself to regular moments of me-time, I understand that worry. However, Allah SWT is Al-Karim, the Generous. He provides goodness in different forms, and it isn’t limited to money alone. One blessing that is often overlooked is time, and more importantly, the time to indulge in the free things that are readily available around us: His signs. As a housewife, I am grateful for the blessing of time and having the capacity to pause and observe His ‘ayah’. Nouman Ali Khan explained that the word ‘ayah’ refers to Allah’s signs. This can be the Qur’an, 52
a verse from it, or signs of Allah in various forms. In the Qur’an, Allah repeatedly pulls our attention to ponder upon nature and the order of life.
 ُ ُ ُه ََو ٱِذَّلِي ُيُ ِِريُك ۡۡم ََء اَٰيِٰتِِهِۦ
He is the One Who shows you His signs
ُ َ ُُ َ ۡ َ ُكم ِّم ََِن ِّزَنُل َل ۚ ٱلَّس ََم ٓاِءِ ِرِۡزٗقٗۚا ِ َوُي
and sends down rain as a provision for you from the sky.
ُ ِ ََو ََما ََي ََت ََذ ََّك ُُر ِإاَّلا ََمن ُيُِن ١٣ يُب ِ But none will be mindful except those who turn to Him. Surah Ghafir, verse 13
In this verse, it is the sky. Most days, the sky is just a blank blue canvas. Sometimes, it showers us with stars, a beautiful rainbow, the moon and the sun. On some days, it is dark with heavy rain and grey clouds. Sometimes, it brings coolness through rain, sometimes, it brings fear through thunder. Simply by reflecting on the sky, we experience a variety of emotions to which we can relate.
53
From the sky comes rizq in the form of rainwater. Water is the source of life. The food we eat, the clothes we wear, the house we live in, the books we read, and even the social media or AI we use are all sourced, nourished, or maintained by water from the sky. These
simple
yet
immense
blessings
are
noticeable to hearts that seek to appreciate them and are grateful to their Giver. We need to guide and direct our hearts to notice the little things, which enable us to connect to Allah even through our everyday moments. Doing laundry on a sunny day? With Allah. Pausing a meeting at the office to pray? For Allah. Staring at the sky from your home balcony, or in the car on your way home from work? Marvelling at Allah. How simply does Allah enrich our lives? If you decide to quit, do not worry about one aspect of blessing (money) being taken away from you. Instead, look forward to noticing the other abundant forms of richness in a slower life. The time given to you now is a blessing that should not be squandered recklessly.
54
Each of us is blessed in different ways. When we see others living their best life, loudly or quietly, slowly or rapidly, say MasyaAllah tabarakAllah. Do not envy nor be sad, for in their happy moments there is Allah SWT. So, let us ask ourselves: how far have we been from remembering Allah?
