Introducing Barrow House… After 12 months of searches and preparations, we now have the keys to a property on Wordsworth Street in Toxteth for our Genesis Housing project. We are currently in the process of getting the house ready for our first set of tenants to hopefully move in just before Christmas. We will be providing supported accommodation for 4 male tenants, offering them support as they search for jobs and look to transition back to independent living. Ste Robertson will be managing the project with a small team of volunteers. If you would like to know more about this project or how to get involved please email genesishousing@imagineiftrust.org
Christmas Meal 2015… Preparations for this year’s Christmas Meal are well underway and its shaping up to be another fantastic year. this year will be our 4th Christmas Day meal, providing lunch for those in our city who are homeless, isolated or vulnerable over the Christmas season. We provide a 3 course meal, games, music and prizes. There is also a bouncy castle for the children and gifts are given out to everyone who attends. We have had overwhelming support from local agencies and organisations provided referrals for the event and donations of money, gifts, food and time. The event will take place in the Frontline Centre from 11.30am to 4.30pm on Christmas Day. Restoring sight in the DRC… In October, we sent a team out to Uganda and the DR Congo. The team visited the site for our new health centre in Kasindi and operated free medical clinics each day treating over 1,000 people. Jenny Gibson gave her reflections on the trip: ‘The trip was an amazing experience. One of the highlights was giving people glasses. They provided an instant fix, you could see the joy on so many people’s faces as they were able to see and read clearly. After receiving a pair one lady jumped to her feet and shouted “Praise God, I can see again!”’
Investing in young lives… The Sticky Fingers Day Nursery has been up and running since October and has been making fantastic progress! Currently, 80% of our children are funded 2 year olds, with another intake set for January. The feedback has already been hugely positive with one parent writing on the Facebook page: “Thanks for all your hard work and being an awesome nursery, I never thought my boy would settle anywhere, but is growing to love it and the staff!” To arrange a visit contact the nursery on 0151 5221385 or email nursery@imagineiftrust.org
