UNION-MADE APPAREL
WITH 100% USA-SOURCED MATERIALS
2023 was an exciting and unexpected year at Image Pointe and Dignity Apparel.
As we were setting up t-shirt manufacturing lines in Iowa to make our first Dignity Apparel T-shirt, we learned that a well-established fabric mill and t-shirt factory was up for sale. To save just a couple dollars on shirt cost, a major brand had decided to offshore their production and nearly 100 hardworking Americans were at risk of losing their jobs– a story that has played out over and over for the past three decades.
When we first visited, a few things were clear. First, these were salt-of-the-earth folks who had worked hard for years, some for decades, and they were rightly concerned about their future. Second, they were skilled, excellent craftspeople who were efficiently producing some of the most amazing, high-quality USA-made t-shirts we had ever come across. Third, as we talked directly with the team, we learned that despite faithful service for many years, they lacked any retirement benefits and discretionary paid-time off to spend with their families. Many were living paycheck to paycheck with no ability to save for the future or establish better lives for themselves and their loved ones. Who was fighting for better lives for these single moms and 30-year knitters working into retirement age just to survive?
As of February 1, 2024, we are humbled and privileged to say that we have expanded our Dignity Apparel operations to include a t-shirt factory in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee! And we’re proud to say that even in a “right to work” state, through the incredible work of Workers United/SEIU, 100% of the team joined a union that has capably represented garment industry workers for generations, and after negotiations, 100% of these new union members ratified their first contract. I believe I speak on behalf of the IP/DA team, the Southern Region of Workers United, and most importantly the men and women of Dignity Apparel Tennessee in saying that we could not be more excited for the future. And it still humbles us to say this out loud...moving forward ALL Dignity Apparel t-shirts will be union-knit in our Tennessee mill, union cut and sewn in the Tennessee garment factory, and union-decorated by Image Pointe in Iowa.
And DA products will ALWAYS be made from 100% USA-sourced materials. How can we guarantee this in an industry characterized by smoke and mirrors and lack of transparency in material sourcing? Because we buy our yarn directly from the Carolinas! Please know that moving forward every Dignity Apparel t-shirt you buy goes directly to benefitting nearly 100 new union workers in Tennessee. We hope that you can help us share their story as you wear Dignity Apparel t-shirts with pride.
None of this is possible without your support and partnership. We are beyond fortunate to have the chance to partner with you in creating strong union jobs.
Thank you! And LET’S GO!
Josh and the IP/DA Team

OUR STORY
DIGNITY APPAREL is a company with a clear market – organizations that care about 100% USA-made, union-made garments. Dignity Apparel is also a company with a clear mission – to create dignified, life-changing jobs. We take both seriously, and we think they’re two sides of the same coin. Our vision is to revive an American garment industry that has been in decline for decades, allowing Americans to continue to buy garments made from American fibers and fabric – with all of the worker and environmental benefits this brings – and that are cut, sewn, and crafted in a union factory committed to the flourishing of our employees and their families. Partnering with our team, our community, and our customer base, we believe we can accomplish great things in the lives of real people. And we’re positive that we can make excellent, comfortable, on-trend garments that our customers will love to wear!
WHY USA-MADE GARMENTS?
• In 1960, roughly 95% of apparel worn by Americans was made by Americans. As of 2009, this number had dropped to 2%.
• US garment manufacturing has decreased by 80% in the past three decades. The global garment industry has filled the gap, and has proven rife with indentured labor, child labor, and environmental destruction.
WHY UNION-MADE GARMENTS?

• In the last decade, the vast majority of unionized garment factories have shut down or stopped serving the union market.
• Some non-union US garment factories have been found to pay below minimum wages with little to no benefits, and at times use imported fabric in their “USA-made” products.
• Partnership with unions ensures that the garments we buy lead to thriving, sustainable livelihoods.

MISSION
To Create Dignified, Life-Changing Jobs.

EMPLOYEE STORY

“I thank God every day for my job and don’t take it for granted. I think it’s important to take pride in what a person does at their job, respect others and be respected. That’s what I try to do every day at my job.
Working in the garment industry runs in the family for Joanna. Her husband, brother, son, sisters, and aunts have all worked at clothing factories. She started working in the industry in 1989. In her current role at Dignity Apparel Tennessee, she helps other sewers hone their craft and succeed. Some of her other duties include operating the hemmer and expediting production.
“I enjoy the people who I get to work beside every day. We’ve had some great times together over the years including our company picnics where we laughed very hard and had a lot of fun. Back in 2006, my husband got sick and eventually passed away. It was a very difficult time in my life. I was able to take time off work to care for him and get through that period in my life. The way I was treated by the leadership here during that time made me want to come back to work when I was ready.”
Joanna is trustworthy and dependable. Her skills at problem solving make her a very important part of the daily operations at the factory. Often, she stays after hours to ensure everything is ready to go the next morning for sewing operations. The hardships she’s experienced in her life have helped her be an empathic person towards others.
