WELCOME TO STRONGSVILLE

Built on a rock-solid foundation of strong safety forces, superior schools, and a thriving business sector, Strongsville is a city people are proud to call home. Here, residents enjoy safe neighborhoods, close-to-home restaurants and shopping, and a genuine sense of community.

Strongsville has always been family-focused, and that’s never been more apparent than this past summer with the opening of our beautiful Town Center Park and the addition of dozens of new special events – concerts, a community market, movie nights, and even a trick-ortreat party – joining our existing festivals and recreational activities on the Commons and at sports fields throughout town.

We’re always looking to build on our success through ongoing training for our police officers and firefighters, major infrastructure improvements, and expansion of our business parks to further strengthen our tax base.

Add in our active civic groups and a strong faith community, and it’s no wonder Strongsville was listed among the most in-demand housing markets in the country by a national real estate group in 2025. As you read this magazine, you can see for yourself that Strongsville has earned its reputation as a wonderful place to call home.

STRONGSVILLE SEES SIGNIFICANT GROWTH

Strongsville is buzzing with business activity, welcoming a wave of new commercial ventures, retailers, and restaurants that are revitalizing existing plazas and reshaping the city’s main corridors.

In 2025 alone, more than 30 retailers filled once-vacant storefronts in existing plazas and broke ground on new construction projects. In addition, SouthPark Mall continues to pulse with new energy and expansion plans.

Beyond retail, major infrastructure is paving the way for growth. The extension of Foltz Parkway is nearly complete, unlocking 87.5 prime acres of land for industrial development. “Strongsville continues to see significant growth, which is creating jobs for our residents and providing the majority of tax revenue used to fund City services,” said Economic Development Director Brent Painter.

In the retail boom, three of the city’s larger storefronts were filled in 2025, with much-anticipated replacements already doing business or opening soon:

▸ Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom – The nation’s largest independent toy retailer took over the nearly 30,000-square-foot space vacated by Big Lots at 15177 Pearl Road in October.

▸ Barnes & Noble – The national chain is opening in early 2026 in the former Bed, Bath & Beyond location at 16700 Royalton Road in the Plaza at SouthPark. The 26,000-square-foot store will offer books and gifts and feature a coffee shop.

▸ Grocery Outlet – This locally owned national discount food chain has leased 22,000 square feet previously occupied by Staples at 12421 Pearl Road.

Strongsville has never had a shortage of places to eat, and an influx of new restaurants and food-related businesses has kept the tradition going. The new additions include three new breakfast-lunch restaurants:

▸ Another Broken Egg Café – Offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, and a full bar at 8913 Pearl Road, the former O’Charley’s location.

▸ The Original Pancake House – Serves up specialty pancakes, plus waffles, eggs and sandwiches in the former Rico’s site at 15315 Pearl Road.

▸ First Watch – Brings a well-known national breakfast chain to town in the former TGI Friday’s spot at the Greens of Strongsville on Royalton Road.

In addition to the three breakfast-focused restaurants, a number of other eateries and food-related stores have set their sights on Strongsville over the last year. They include:

▸ Gusto Dolce Italian Bistro – Traditional Italian cuisine, 18066 Royalton Road (The Greens of Strongsville)

▸ ZEST Pastry and Coffee Co. – Craft pastry and cookies, 10252 W. 130th Street

▸ Cyclo Vietnamese Cuisine – Vietnamese classics including pho and stir fry, 15147 Pearl Road (Strongsville Towne Center plaza)

▸ Mochinut Donuts – Japanese donuts made of rice or tapioca flour, Korean hotdogs, bubble tea drinks, soft serve, 14694 Pearl Road

▸ Qahwah House – Traditional Yemeni coffee, tea, 14375 Pearl Road (former Burger Fi location)

▸ El Taco Macho – Mexican street food, 14795 Pearl Road

▸ The Bunny Boba Tea – Boba tea, coffee drinks, desserts, 14405 Pearl Road

▸ Wingstop – Chicken wings, sandwiches, and sides, 14236 Pearl Road

▸ Qdoba – Burritos and Mexican food, 18025 Royalton Road

▸ More’ Indian Supermarket – Packaged, frozen, and fresh food and produce, 15177 Pearl Road (Strongsville Towne Center plaza)

▸ Bruster’s Real Ice Cream – Homemade ice cream, 18268 Pearl Road (under construction)

The anticipated Bruster’s isn’t the only new construction in town, either. Two new daycare centers and an oil change business built new facilities in Strongsville in 2025.

CITY OVERVIEW

Continued from page 6

▸ The Learning Experience – Opened a 10,000-square-foot daycare center at 12326 Pearl Road

▸ Brightpath Child Care – Constructed a 13,582-square-foot daycare at 17337 Pearl Road

▸ Take 5 Oil Change – Built a 1,682-square-foot facility at 8874 Pearl Road

▸ Sheetz (redevelopment) – Gas station and convenience store razed and rebuilt, 21034 Royalton Road (corner of Prospect Road)

▸ Dollar General – Building a 9,100-square-foot store at 13826 West 130th Street

▸ Camden Woods – Planning a small commercial strip at the corner of Prospect and Royalton Roads that could include a sit-down restaurant, coffee shop, and retail stores

While some communities struggle with vacant storefronts in their retail plazas, Strongsville typically avoids long vacancies. Here are some more of the newcomers in 2025:

▸ The Little Gym – Gymnastics and activities for kids, 12333 Pearl Road (Staples Plaza)

▸ HealthSource of Strongsville – Chiropractic center, 14757 Pearl Road (Strongsville Plaza)

▸ StretchLab – Assisted one-on-one stretching, 17100 Royalton Road (Ledgewood Plaza)

▸ Union Savings Bank – Banking institution, 11654 Pearl Road

▸ KidStrong – Classes and games to develop a child’s mind, body, and confidence, 17860 Pearl Road (Parkview Plaza)

▸ SWTHZ (SweatHouz) – Contrast (hot and cold) therapy, 18025 Royalton Road

▸ Alloy Personal Training – One-on-one exercise and strength training, 17554 Pearl Road (Parkview Plaza)

▸ Aqua-Tots Swim School – Swimming lessons for kids, 17792 Pearl Road (Parkview Plaza)

▸ Ashleigh Clark Interior Design Group – Home interior design and remodeling, 13100 Prospect Road

Also seeing growth and expansion is SouthPark Mall. In an era where enclosed malls are struggling to keep a foothold in the retail market, SouthPark continues to succeed. “The City Administration continues to work closely with the Mall owners (the Spinoso Real Estate Group) to ensure the successful evolution of SouthPark Mall,” Painter said.

Some of the activity at SouthPark Mall in 2025 includes:

▸ Dick’s House of Sport – This 120,000-squarefoot, newly opened complex in the former Sears store is an interactive experience for shoppers and the first of its kind in Ohio. It takes shopping for sporting goods to another level, with a climbing wall, digital golf and baseball simulators, and outdoor fields to test new running shoes.

▸ Boot Barn – Western-themed apparel and boots for men and women in the former Office Max store

▸ Activate Games – Interactive challenges for all ages in the former Office Max site

▸ Kids Empire – An indoor playground inside the mall

▸ Kyuramen -- Traditional Japanese ramen restaurant in the former Chipotle spot inside the mall

▸ Lao Sze Chuan – An upscale Chinese restaurant from the owners of Shinto, slated for the former Red Lobster building

Lithium-Ion Battery Dangers

DON’T dispose of them in the trash or a recycling bin

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere these days – in fact, you’ve had one in your hand today. They’re the compact, rechargeable batteries powering cell phones and laptop computers, as well as e-bikes and even electric cars.

What you might not know is how dangerous they can be. The lightweight batteries are responsible for an increasing number of fires both in Strongsville and across the nation.

“Damaged batteries can overheat, leading to an explosive, aggressive fire that spreads rapidly and is challenging to extinguish,” Fire Chief Jack Draves said.

They’ve become a serious problem in garbage trucks, landfills, and recycling facilities. When the batteries get wet or punctured, they unleash a thermal event that produces a very hot, resilient flame –causing potential injury to sanitation workers, significant damage to vehicles and facilities, and even explosions.

Residents should NEVER place a lithium-ion battery in regular

▸ Proposed hotel – SouthPark owners plan to bring an upscale hotel to the mall property, with construction potentially starting in 2026

Meanwhile, the city’s four industrial parks continue to thrive, boasting a 98 percent occupancy rate and several recent expansions.

That’s hugely important, Painter says. Income taxes pay 80 percent of the bills in Strongsville, for services like police protection, fire and emergency medical service, recreation, Road repair, and refuse collection. Businesses in the industrial parks contribute roughly 50 percent of that income tax revenue.

More growth is on the way, too, with the 2,200-foot extension of Foltz Parkway south, ending in a cul-de-sac before Boston Road and opening up 87.5 acres of prime industrial land for development.

trash or recycling bins. Instead, dispose of them at stores like Best Buy and Lowe’s.

Adding to the problem is that water or regular fire extinguishers won’t put out a lithium-ion battery fire. Instead, a dry chemical or foam extinguisher must be used. And even then, the batteries are known to re-ignite hours or even days later.

But they’re also a fire hazard in homes and garages, too. A lithium-ion battery can catch fire if it’s damaged or punctured, if it gets wet, if it’s connected to a non-conforming charger, if it’s exposed to extreme temperatures, or if it’s defective.

Once it’s on fire, it can release toxic gases or explode. Strongsville Fire and Emergency Services has this advice for residents:

• Use only approved batteries with the charger that’s supplied, and use the wall outlet, not an extension cord.

• Store the battery in an open space, away from anything flammable, and away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

• Don’t leave a battery charging overnight or unattended. Never charge an e-bike inside your home.

• If a battery overheats or you notice an odor, leak, or noise, stop using it immediately. If possible, move it away from anything that can catch fire and call 911.

• If you observe a lithium-ion battery fire, leave the area, close the door, and call 911.

Helping Shape the City's New Look

Strongsville recently celebrated its 30th year as a Tree City USA community – a milestone that highlights the city’s commitment to urban forestry and green infrastructure. While most cities undertake rebranding initiatives, they typically focus on logos and catchy slogans. Strongsville’s approach grew out of something unexpected: its urban forest and natural spaces.

Jennifer Milbrandt, Strongsville's Coordinator of Natural Resources and an experienced arborist (pictured above), led an initiative that wove together urban forestry and community identity. Her work with the city's horticulture crew proved that managing trees and crafting a city's image aren't separate pursuits—they're naturally connected.

The relationship between managing trees and creating a city's visual identity might not seem obvious at first. But for Strongsville, the connection is fundamental. Beautifying the community through landscaping, tree planting, and caring for natural spaces creates the very foundation upon which signage exists.

"The visual identity of a community isn't just about signs—it's also about the landscape those signs sit in," explains Milbrandt. By integrating natural elements and keeping gateways attractive and consistent, the rebranding became a natural extension of ongoing environmental work.

The project started with Strongsville partnering with Guide Studios and forming a resident committee to gather community input. Once the branding direction was chosen, Milbrandt took on the implementation—translating the visual identity into the physical landscape.

The first major installation at W. 130th Street set the tone for everything that followed. The previously cleared site offered an opportunity to create a visual and ecological connection to the Cleveland Metroparks, restore the natural environment, and establish a welcoming entry point into Strongsville. The resulting welcome sign and landscape plan

merged branding with environmental restoration.

At W. 130th Street, native trees and plants were intentionally placed behind the signage to create visual harmony with the surrounding landscape. Community members enthusiastically joined in—some residents even brought milkweed seed pods for late-fall planting in the naturalized area behind the sign, helping expand pollinatorfriendly habitat. Using native vegetation enhances the aesthetics and reinforces the city's commitment to sustainability.

Beyond beautification, the signage initiative supports Strongsville's goal of becoming more walkable, particularly around Town Center. The wayfinding signs help direct visitors to amenities like the library, recreation center, splash pad, and historical village.

Most visitors won’t notice, but the placement of the signs was also deliberate. The wayfinding system was designed to enhance, not compete with, views of the natural environment.

Consistency will be key. Future signs erected in Strongsville will reflect the design of the new wayfinders and the other signs that mark the Town Center area.

“Trees and green space are important to residents in Strongsville,” Milbrandt said. “We felt it was only natural to incorporate that into our rebranding efforts.”

A Decade of Service, Growth, and Giving Back

For the past twelve years, the Krusz family has been woven into the fabric of Strongsville, building both a thriving business and a legacy of community service that extends far beyond the bays of Sgt. Clean Car Wash.

Brian Krusz, entrepreneur and community leader, along with his wife Melissa and their boys, were initially drawn to Strongsville by its strong sense of community, excellent schools, and welcoming environment. Their decision to establish their first two business locations here quickly evolved into a full commitment to making Strongsville home. "We love Strongsville's safe community and its caring, loving nature," Brian shares. "It's a place where neighbors support one another and where our children have countless opportunities to grow."

FROM MARINE CORPS VALUES TO COMMUNITY SERVICE

Brian's commitment to service began with eight years in the United States Marine Corps. After earning his Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Kent State University, he carried those values of duty and service into both business and community life. A lesson from his

grandfather about "paying community rent" shaped his approach to giving back.

The Krusz family's involvement runs deep. They participate in Strongsville Rotary, volunteer within the school district and with local nonprofits, and deliver Meals on Wheels monthly. Melissa has served as both PTA President and Treasurer. The family coaches youth hockey, volunteers at their church, and supports the Food 4 Kids program.

Through Sgt. Clean Car Wash, which Brian co-founded in 2013, they organized food drives, awarded scholarships, and built meaningful partnerships throughout the community. Under Brian's leadership as Chief Growth & Development Officer, the company grew to 16 locations and earned recognition as a five-time Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Company, a four-time Weatherhead 100 winner, and a threetime Vet100 honoree. The company also received the Smart Culture Award and the Smart 50 Award for innovation and leadership in Northeast Ohio.

TEACHING THE NEXT GENERATION

For the Krusz family, community involvement isn't just something they do—it's who they are. They make it a priority to get their boys involved in activities through the Rotary, their church, and local events.

"We want our children to understand

since 1949.

the importance of service, kindness, and leadership," Brian says. "Community involvement is not just something you do, it is part of who you are."

One particularly meaningful memory began at a Rotary breakfast in 2022. What started as a simple conversation evolved into an extraordinary effort, raising over $60,000 and transporting more than five suitcases full of medical supplies to Poland to support Ukrainian refugees.

"Experiences like that remind us of the incredible impact that begins within our community," Brian reflects. "The real meaning comes from watching the faces of the people we impact—whether it's through scholarships, volunteering, or community support."

WHAT MAKES STRONGSVILLE SPECIAL

service, leadership, and supporting the community that supports us."

A NEW CHAPTER

Brian points to the community's Midwestern values, strong family principles, and outstanding leadership of Mayor Perciak and his team. "It blends a small-town feel with big-city amenities, all while maintaining a deep sense of community pride."

The Homecoming Festival, the new Town Center, school events, and hockey at BAM Arena hold special places in the family's heart. If they had to describe Strongsville in three words? "Family, Community, Opportunity."

LOOKING AHEAD

For other families looking to get more involved, Brian's advice is simple: start small and don't overwhelm yourselves. "Attend a Rotary meeting, volunteer at a school event, or simply ask where help is needed. Volunteer with something that you would enjoy—something you have a passion for or an interest in. You'll quickly see that the rewards are far greater than the time you put in."

The Krusz family's story is one of reciprocity and gratitude. "Our family feels truly blessed for what we have, and we believe it's our responsibility to give back in return," Brian says. "We want to leave things better than we found them, while also showing our children the importance of

STRONGSVILLE

After 13 incredible years in the car wash industry, Brian has fully stepped away from the car wash business and dayto-day operations at Sgt. Clean, marking the close of that chapter as he looks ahead to new ventures, growth, and opportunities.

"From the very beginning, Sgt. Clean was more than a business — it was a family, built on people, service, and doing things the right way," Brian reflects. "This transition is bittersweet, but my pride in Sgt. Clean — and in all the people who made it what it is — remains stronger than ever. The company is in great hands and will continue to thrive."

Brian is now focusing on personal real estate projects and other business ventures. “Entrepreneurship has always been in my heart, and these new endeavors are an extension of the same mission that started Sgt. Clean: to help others succeed, create opportunities, and make a positive impact in our communities," Brian says.

As the Krusz family enters this new chapter, their commitment to Strongsville remains unwavering. Whether through new business pursuits, continued community service, or simply showing up for their neighbors, they continue to embody the values that make Strongsville special.

HOMETOWN HERO FLAG PROGRAM

Councilman Jim Kaminski,

David Maloney, and newly elected Councilman Anthony Zacharyasz are assembling a team, which will include veterans, to launch a Hometown Hero Flag program in Strongsville. The Strongsville Historical Society will assist with the future website, flag ordering, and preservation of this important information for our city.

Councilman Kaminski believes this program is long overdue. The distinctive flags will recognize and honor veterans who currently live in Strongsville or who once called the city home. The team envisions this as an annual opportunity to display the flags the week prior to Veterans Day.

The Hometown Hero team will determine which veterans qualify for the program, establish the ordering process, and select display locations each year. The cost of a Hometown Hero flag and hardware is currently $200.

They are also exploring sponsorship opportunities for community organizations, businesses, or individuals to honor eligible veterans from historical records— particularly deceased veterans whose families cannot be located or who lack the funds to purchase a flag. If you have questions or are interested in sponsoring a flag for a family member or community veteran, please contact Councilman Jim Kaminski at jim.kaminski@Strongsville.org.

Continued Growth AT

SouthPark Mall in Strongsville continues to grow, evolve, and thrive as one of Northeast Ohio’s premier shopping and lifestyle destinations. Over the past year, the center has welcomed a variety of new retailers, community partnerships, and immersive experiences that bring fresh energy to the mall while staying true to its long tradition as a gathering place for families and friends.

One of the most exciting additions is the arrival of Dick’s House of Sport, a unique concept store that blends retail with recreation. The brand-new location features an outdoor track and field, batting cages, rock-climbing walls, and golf simulators, inviting guests to test products, play, and connect with local sports communities. The store has quickly become a hub for fitness enthusiasts, youth athletes, and families looking for an active and

inspiring experience right here in Strongsville.

Alongside Dick’s House of Sport, the mall has also welcomed several new retail and dining concepts that continue to diversify the shopping experience. A few new additions to mention are Kyuramen, Boot Barn, Activate Games, and Kid’s Empire. From fashion favorites and experiential family fun to delicious new food options, guests can explore an ever-changing mix of retail that reflects today’s trends while supporting local and national brands alike. These updates create a dynamic atmosphere that keeps guests returning to discover what is new.

SouthPark Mall is also proud to continue building strong community connections through marketing events and partnerships. Seasonal celebrations, family activities, and charitable collaborations bring together visitors of all ages and interests. Popular events such as Noon Year’s Eve, Malloween, the Girl Scout Lock-In, and a full calendar of holiday programming have become beloved traditions that fill the mall with joy, community, and togetherness.

Beyond hosting community events, SouthPark continues to support local organizations, schools, and causes through ongoing partnerships that strengthen the bond between the center and the surrounding community. Whether it is a student art display, a youth performance in Center Court, or a family photo with Santa, every event creates an opportunity to connect and build lasting memories.

Looking ahead, SouthPark Mall is filled with optimism for the years to come. The goal is to continue evolving in ways that serve the community and meet the changing needs of today’s shoppers. As the retail landscape continues to shift, SouthPark is proud to lead with innovation, creativity, and community focus. Each new addition and event represents another step in the mall’s journey to remain not just a shopping center, but a true destination for experience and connection.

SouthPark Mall has always been more than a place to shop. It is where families meet for dinner, where you tackle holiday shopping for your loved ones, and the community comes together to celebrate. With continued growth, exciting new concepts, and a clear vision for the future, SouthPark Mall is ready to make the next chapter even more memorable. The best is yet to come, and we cannot wait to share it with you!

AERNI DENTAL

In Pursuit of Oral Health and Happiness Using the Latest in Dental Technologies

High quality general dentistry, implants, orthodontics, and the most advanced technology—right here in Strongsville

Not all dentists and dental offices are created equal.

While dental o ces seem to be everywhere, truly exceptional practices are rare. Aerni Dental is one of those rare gems. With more than 35 years, of experience, Dr. William Aerni blends advanced clinical expertise with genuine, attentive patient care—all inside a state-of-the-art facility overlooking the beautiful Metroparks.

Dr. Aerni is known for taking the time to listen, understand concerns, and create treatment plans tailored to each patient. His thoughtful, unhurried approach helps patients feel comfortable and con dent. Over the years, he has built his clinical philosophy around two essential principles that determine lifelong oral health: managing infections and managing forces. This focus helps patients maintain strong, healthy, beautiful teeth for a lifetime.

A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Aerni earned the Distinguished Robert James Award in 1996, recognizing excellence in general dentistry and implantology. In 2024, he received the Midwest Implant Institute Honored Fellow Award, a notable Lifetime Achievement Award honoring his contributions to the eld of implant dentistry. With the experience of three decades in practice, he continues to pursue extensive continuing education—far beyond what is required—ensuring that his patients always bene t from the most advanced techniques and technologies.

Dr. Aerni, as well as all of his staff made every effort to make me feel as comfortable as possible during the procedure of prepping for and installing a crown. I would also add that their attention to the details of creating and fitting the crown were impeccable. I appreciate the fact that Dr. Aerni has invested in and learned to use the most up-to-date technology available in this field.”

To support this high level of care, Dr. Aerni designed a world-class facility equipped with cutting-edge technology so patients can receive comprehensive treatment in a single location. He intentionally built his o ce overlooking the Metroparks to create a peaceful, calming environment where patients can feel more relaxed throughout their appointments.

One of the areas where Aerni Dental stands apart is in implant dentistry. While many dental o ces do not place implants, Dr. Aerni has been performing implant procedures for over 30 years. Using X-Guide digitally guided surgery, a system that o ers real-time navigation and is 11 times more accurate than

conventional methods, he performs minimally invasive implant placement with remarkable precision. Less than one percent of surgeons in the country use this technology. In many cases, he can also deliver a same-day, 3D-printed, screw-retained healing bridge, a life-changing option he has o ered for more than 14 years. Patients who have struggled to chew, eat, or smile—often referred to as “dental cripples”—frequently reclaim their quality of life after treatment at Aerni Dental. If you are missing one, several, or all of your teeth, Dr. Aerni o ers a complimentary exam, CT scan, and consultation to help you explore your options.

Dr. Aerni also brings an exceptional range of advanced therapies into everyday dentistry. He uses CO₂ laser technology for procedures such as extractions, grafting, implant placement, crown lengthening, and more—often resulting in reduced post-operative pain, minimal bleeding, and faster healing. The same laser technology is also used to treat sleep apnea by bio-stimulating the collagen layer of the soft palate, which can open the airway and often reduce or eliminate the need for a CPAP or oral appliance.

I have been with Dr. Aerni since he had his first office in Strongsville, my family and I have NO reason to go anywhere else for ALL of our dental needs. His staff are some of the most kind and professional people I’ve experienced anywhere in any profession and are now more like family to us than anything else.”

As an early adopter of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and fibrin therapies, Dr. Aerni uses these concentrated natural growth factors—derived from the patient’s own blood—to reduce in ammation, speed healing, and lower the risk of secondary infections after surgery. He also uses Oral DNA testing to identify and measure speci c bacteria responsible for periodontal disease, a condition a ecting roughly 80% of adults. With these results, he provides more precise diagnosis, tailored treatment, and ongoing monitoring. Many of these patients bene t from LANAP regenerative periodontal therapy, a minimally invasive laser procedure that eliminates infection and stimulates the natural regeneration of bone, ligaments, and gum tissue. STRONGSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS

Transforming Our Classrooms

In today's rapidly changing educational landscape, Strongsville City Schools’ teachers and staff are focused daily on the different ways to transform classrooms and create meaningful learning experiences to give our students the opportunity to explore and develop their own pathway and empower their future.

Our District continues to develop “Model Mustang” skills in our students - Innovative, Resilient, Collaborative, Global, and Empowered - the foundation of our instructional plan. From PreK-12th grade, we are intentionally weaving the development of these skills in classroom experiences and extracurricular activities for all of our students.

Strongsville City Schools has long been a point of pride for the community. Many of our elementary buildings were constructed in the 1960s by residents who planned

A Tradition of Faith and Academic Excellence

For more than seven decades, Saints Joseph and John School has been a cornerstone of Catholic education in Strongsville, Ohio. Founded in 1950 as St. Joseph Catholic School, the institution began with humble roots—just four classrooms and a small teaching staff dedicated to nurturing young minds. In 1978, a partnership with St. John Neumann Parish formally united the two parish communities, creating the interparochial school known today. Over the years, the school has expanded its facilities and programs to meet the growing needs of families seeking faith-centered, academic excellence.

Sts. Joseph and John School is more than a school - it’s a community where every child is known, valued, and inspired to grow. Rooted in Catholic tradition and committed to academic excellence, SJJ offers a safe and nurturing environment from preschool through grade eight.

Our students benefit from dedicated educators, leadership opportunities, and a vibrant school culture built on faith, service, and respect. Families choose SJJ for its strong academics, joyful community, and the values that guide every day.

Serving students from preschool through grade eight, Saints Joseph and John offers a well-rounded education that blends rigorous academics with spiritual formation. Daily religion instruction, prayer, weekly Mass, and sacramental preparation are woven into the curriculum, helping students grow in both knowledge and faith. The school emphasizes service and character development, with students participating in community outreach projects that reinforce Christian values and social responsibility.

In addition to core academic subjects, students benefit from foreign language instruction, technology integration, and a variety of extracurricular activities that foster creativity and critical thinking. The dedicated faculty—all state-certified and religiously educated—work collaboratively to support each child’s intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth.

Open to families of all backgrounds, Saints Joseph and John School remains committed to its mission of serving students with integrity, faith, and excellence. Enrollment continues to thrive as the school prepares young learners for success in high school and beyond.

ahead for their children and for the future of the city. Those schools have been carefully maintained, but they were not designed for today’s safety standards, enrollment levels, or instructional needs. Over the past three years, our District has worked with facility experts, staff, parents, and community members to study elementary facility needs and evaluate multiple options, culminating in the development of the Foundation for the Future Plan. This plan outlines a future elementary configuration that includes three newly constructed K–5 elementary schools - Chapman, Surrarrer, and Whitney (on the former Albion Middle School property) - each serving approximately 700 students, the continued use of Kinsner Elementary as a K–5 school with targeted renovations, and a renovated and expanded preschool facility at the current site of Muraski.

We know that our District cannot have sustained success without a strong community partnership. This partnership is extremely important for our District to continue building on our community’s legacy and reaching our shared goal of student excellence. We appreciate this vital support, as learning expectations and community needs evolve and we look toward long-term stability and shared responsibility across generations. Nestled in beautiful Berea, Ohio, St. Mary School offers a truly enriching educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. We are dedicated to nurturing the "whole child” by blending rigorous academic excellence with profound spiritual development rooted in the mission of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Our students thrive in a safe, respectful, and value-centered Christian environment, benefiting from a comprehensive curriculum that includes Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Religion, Foreign Language, Music, and Physical Education. At St. Mary School, we treat each student as a special gift, fostering both academic scholars and upstanding disciples to build a foundation for a productive, faith-filled, and enriched life. Strongsville’s Robust Real Estate Market

The Strongsville real estate market continues its robust performance, fueled by consistent buyer demand and limited housing inventory. The average home sale price has reached approximately $409,000, marking a 4–5% increase over 2024. As a highly desirable Northeast Ohio suburb, Strongsville remains attractive due to its excellent schools, vibrant retail landscape, and proximity to Cleveland's business hubs.

The local market gained national attention when the ZIP code 44149 was named the No. Sixth hottest ZIP code in the U.S. during the first half of 2025, according to a recent report. During this period, homes in the area received 5.2 times more views than the national average and sold in a median of about 25 days.

The rapid pace of sales is a key market indicator. The median time for a home to be on the market is 32 days, and competitively priced homes continue to attract multiple offers. Demand is particularly high

for well-maintained, newer, and move-in-ready properties, which often close at or above their list price.

Inventory levels have fluctuated throughout the year, from a low of 23 active listings in February to a peak of 60 in September. This limited supply, coupled with stabilizing mortgage rates, has sustained market competition. The average price per square foot has also increased slightly from 2024 to approximately $184, reflecting healthy appreciation across neighborhoods.

Local real estate professionals are crucial for navigating Strongsville's active market. They offer the expert advice and seamless service needed to guide clients through the competitive landscape. Whether you are buying, selling, or investing, it’s an exciting time to make a move in Strongsville, and the positive market outlook is expected to continue into 2026!

Healing the Whole Person, Healing Our Community

I’ve spent over two decades working at the intersection of trauma, systems, and community care—in a variety of settings. I watched people, families, and helpers pushed beyond their limits. Over time, the cracks in our mental health system became impossible to ignore.

Founding Stella Luna in 2019 was my answer to that: a center that treats the whole person while refusing to separate clinical excellence from humanity.

We are best known for our work with trauma, PTSD, and complex life experiences. Our clinicians use EMDR, narrative therapy, parts work, and somatic and mindfulness-based approaches to help people move beyond just “coping” and shift the patterns that keep them stuck. We pay close attention to the nervous system (how our bodies carry our stories) so that insight can turn into sustainable change. Our mental health services accept insurance—because access to highquality care should not be a luxury.

For some, medication is a vital part of healing. Our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner offers thoughtful, conservative medication management. She is methodical and intentional with her diagnoses and explores non-stimulant options first when appropriate. For people who have tried multiple medications without relief, we offer pharmacogenetic testing (such as GeneSight) to help clarify what may work better with their unique biology.

We also provide ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) for appropriate clients in a structured, therapeutic setting. KAP can offer

meaningful relief for treatment-resistant depression and trauma—often more rapidly than standard antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications. We emphasize preparation, safety, and integration so the experience becomes a catalyst for growth rather than a one-time event.

Because healing does not stop at the therapy room door, our wellness services are open to the public. People can access services that support nervous system regulation, rest, and recovery, whether or not they are in counseling with us. We are launching our trauma-informed movement program for anyone wanting to bring the body into their healing, including yoga, tai chi, barre-inspired classes, and dancing mindfulness. The focus is on wellness, choice, safety, and mindful connection to self — not performance.

Stella Luna is more than a practice—it is a hub for community healing. We partner with health-conscious businesses, schools, and organizations to provide corporate wellness programming, trainings, and retreats that address burnout, compassion fatigue, traumainformed workplaces, and the impact of mental health on performance and culture.

My vision is ambitious: when healing is supported, communities become healthier, more authentic, and more resilient. Ultimately, my goal is for people not to need us—to be worked out of a job because they are resourced, connected, and thriving. That’s when we know we are doing good work.

At its core, Stella Luna is about creating a culture of care—starting with the self, then rippling outward. Healing people helps heal communities, and that is the work we are here to do together. Find more information online at stellalunatherapy.com.

In the heart of Strongsville, Brookway Hearing Center stands as a beacon of compassionate auditory health. Founded over 18 years ago by Robert Pavlik, a boardcertified hearing instrument specialist (BC-HIS) with over 24 years of expertise, the center embodies a blend of professional excellence and personal touch. Co-owned by his wife, Michelle Pavlik, and now featuring their son, Ross Pavlik, as a licensed Hearing Aid Specialist pursuing national board certification, Brookway is truly a family affair The center's foundational commitment to treating patients like family has been evident since the beginning. Today, at their updated location on 11180 Pearl Road, that ethos remains stronger than ever. Robert leads with a philosophy that views hearing loss not just as a medical issue, but as a barrier to life's joys—conversations with loved ones, the rustle of leaves, or a grandchild's laughter. "We're here to bridge those gaps," Robert often says, echoing the familyoriented spirit that has defined Brookway since day one. What sets Brookway apart is its comprehensive,

personalized services, designed to walk patients through every step of their hearing journey. Start with precision diagnostics: Advanced evaluations include the innovative Otoscan 3D ear imaging—a quick, noninvasive laser scan that creates custom-fit solutions for unparalleled accuracy. From there, explore cutting-edge hearing aids, such as the invisible, extended-wear Lyric devices, worn 24/7 in the ear canal for natural sound without feedback or daily hassle. Brookway's "Brain First" approach integrates devices with the exclusive NeuroHearing™ program, retraining the brain for sharper clarity and holistic well-being.

Maintenance is key to longevity, and Brookway excels here, too. Tools like the ReDux Home Dryer ensure devices stay moisture-free and performant, while "The Triangle" model—harmonizing the patient, fitter, and product— guarantees tailored outcomes. The team prioritizes honest recommendations for what's truly effective.

Brookway welcomes everyone with no-pressure screenings and flexible scheduling. As Ross Pavlik notes, "It's about family—ours and yours. We build relationships that last, ensuring you hear better and live fuller!”

A PERFECT FIT

Barrett Hovanic-Weeda, a second grader at Kinsner Elementary in Strongsville, was diagnosed with profound hearing loss as an infant and received cochlear implants in both ears at eleven months old. Today, he's fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), plays soccer and basketball, and is thriving in mainstream school thanks to early hearing loss intervention.

For many years, Barrett didn't know anyone else with cochlear implants, but that all changed when his family welcomed Lilly, a 17-year-old exchange student from Germany who also has hearing loss and received a cochlear implant when she was around four. Lilly wanted to come to the U.S. to improve her English, but needed a family who understood hearing loss and could help her if needed. Barrett’s parents, Samantha Hovanic and Tony Weeda, knew their family was a perfect fit. Barrett and his older sister, Lengitu Hovanic, couldn’t have agreed more.

Barrett was implanted with Cochlear’s Nucleus System before his first birthday, giving him options to both hear and be a part of the Deaf community. Cochlear implants are surgically implanted medical devices that replace the

function of damaged sensory hair cells inside the inner ear and have been FDA-approved for nearly 40 years. They're considered the established treatment for children as young as 9 months with bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss. From the beginning, Barrett has learned ASL alongside using his cochlear implants. "It was much harder in the beginning because we were learning the technology and learning about hearing loss and the Deaf community," his mother explains. "Now we just make adjustments as we go along, and things are pretty straightforward."

Research shows that providing a child access to sound when hearing loss is first detected is critical—early access to sound and proper treatment can allow a child's speech and language development to be on par with their hearing peers. In fact, up to 80% of children who received cochlear implants younger than 12 months of age demonstrated receptive vocabulary knowledge within the normal range by school entry.

Barrett has developed his own unique relationship with his cochlear implants. He's been known to take them off when he doesn't want to hear something—and he's not above using it to his advantage. "If he doesn't like the answer, he points to his ears and says, 'Mom, do you know I can’t hear?' And continues doing whatever he wants to do," his mother shares with a laugh.

During a recent soccer game, Barrett's cochlear implant fell off mid-play. Running down the field without sound, he couldn't hear the referee's whistle. He scored what he thought was a goal and was thrilled—until he learned it didn't count because play had stopped. Fortunately, they were playing against a team of friends, and in the spirit of good sportsmanship, everyone let it go.

To ensure Barrett has access to all forms of communication, he attends the Ohio School for the Deaf in the summer and the annual Hands Up conference in Orlando, which is an immersive event conducted primarily in ASL that brings together Deaf individuals, interpreters, educators, and their families for workshops, networking, and communitybuilding. He also has a solid group of friends at school who have learned sign language and support him with his technology.

Hosting Lilly has been mutually beneficial and has reinforced the family's understanding of hearing loss. "She will tell us if an environment is really loud and it will confirm what Barrett says, or we will recognize that we aren't having

GIVING PETS A SECOND CHANCE

Strongsville-based Forget Me Not

Animal Rescue is a volunteerrun, foster-based organization dedicated to providing second chances to animals in need. Unlike traditional shelters, they operate entirely through a network of foster homes, ensuring every rescued animal receives personalized care in a home environment while awaiting adoption.

The organization focuses on overcrowded shelters and highkill facilities, specializing in animals requiring medical or behavioral intervention. They take in pets who have been abandoned, neglected, or surrendered—many who arrive scared or sick. Through foster care, these animals receive the time and rehabilitation they need before finding permanent homes.

Their foster-based model places animals with volunteers who

good 'Deaf etiquette' and that we need to turn to face her or speak clearly," his mother notes.

The family has enjoyed their time with Lilly, visiting Niagara Falls and Cedar Point, among other places. Both daredevils, Barrett and Lilly rode the Slingshot at Cedar Point and visited a haunted restaurant. Lilly also went to her first homecoming and was excited to experience Halloween in the U.S. As for whether Barrett treats Lilly differently because of her cochlear implant, Lilly says simply, "No, I think he sees me like everybody else."

Barrett's mother has clear advice for other parents of children with hearing loss: "I would advise that they encompass all aspects of hearing loss, including learning ASL and being involved with the Deaf community." Having Lilly in his home represents a daily example of someone thriving with cochlear implants. His mother hopes "that Barrett sees that she wears her implants all the time and that she can do pretty much anything with them."

provide temporary care, socialization, and training. This approach reduces stress and allows the rescue to better understand each animal's personality and needs.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Forget Me Not is fully donation-driven. Nearly all funds support direct animal care: veterinary bills, food, supplies, and foster expenses. Without a physical facility, overhead remains minimal, maximizing donation impact.

They welcome foster volunteers, transport and event assistance, donations, and adoption inquiries. Whether you open your home, give your time, or contribute financially, you can help save lives in your community. Find more information online, including upcoming events and fundraisers, at forgetmenotanimalrescue.weebly.com or facebook.com/forgetmenotanimalrescue. View animals ready for adoption at petfinder.com

For now, they are making the most of their time together, bridging cultures, languages, and shared experiences in hearing differently—one thrilling amusement park ride at a time.

Do you want your money to matter?
feeling is mutual.

Camp Cheerful has called Strongsville home since 1947, and we have produced thousands of "happy campers"! What began as a small summer camp experience for children with mild to moderate disabilities has expanded dramatically. We now serve children, teens, adults, and older adults; we provide programming 12 months out of the year; and we are privileged to support individuals with a far greater range of disabilities and circumstances than ever before.

In order to build on our legacy as a place of joy, inclusion, and community in this evolving environment, Camp Cheerful is embarking on a journey that will modernize its facilities, invest in spaces that ensure longterm sustainability and growth, embrace the natural spaces surrounding us, and strengthen our highest impact programs. Lots will be happening in 2026 and beyond at Camp. Come visit us!

Supporting Our Community

“THE FLAG PEOPLE...” If you knew nothing else about the Kiwanis Club of Strongsville, it might be enough to realize that it is the local organization that is responsible for the glorious American flag display that adorns Town Square throughout the year.

Yet, you would be limiting yourself to the veritable tip of the iceberg. The Club does far more than hoist 110 American Flags to acknowledge our country’s national holidays. The Kiwanis Club is a service organization that is committed to the development and wellness of the children and young adults of Strongsville.

Their favorite projects and activities include:

• A “memory bag” of various items to help with the grieving process is given to school-aged children (K-12th grade) who have lost a loved one.

• A “read around the world” event that promotes reading for the very young children (pre-school - 3rd graders) of the community.

• Sponsorship of three youth clubs includes:

▸ Builders Clubs at Strongsville Middle

▸ School & St. Joseph & John School

▸ Key Club at Strongsville High School

• The Kiwanis Club Scholarship Program awards seven $1500 scholarships to seven high school seniors.

• The Patriotic Flag Program at Town Square.

• $20,000 pledge to the Strongsville Town Center Enhancement

Oh, by the way, a membership drive is underway... Find more information online at strongsvillekiwanis.com.

Celebrating Over 30Years of Excellence

Since 1995, Strongsville Community Theatre has delivered high-quality plays, musicals, and youth productions, highlighting local talent and providing educational opportunities in the theatrical arts. We are committed to enriching Strongsville and neighboring communities through outstanding entertainment.

We also support aspiring performers by awarding scholarships to graduating Strongsville High School seniors pursuing performing arts studies (theatre, music, dance) at the university level. Our annual fall tribute show benefits the Jean Thom Scholarship Fund, which has provided over $35,000 in scholarships over the past several years.

For all the latest news, updates on shows, audition announcements, or ways to get involved, please visit our website or follow us on Facebook. To purchase tickets, call our SCT Box Office at 440-879-8817 or buy online at strongsvillecommunitytheatre.com.
