I
am pleased to present the Parma Magazine and Community Guide and to highlight the amenities the seventhlargest city in Ohio provides residents, businesses, and visitors. Parma has a strong housing market, safe and welcoming neighborhoods, top-quality health care, and awardwinning libraries. We boast more than 500 acres of public green space in the Cleveland Metroparks West Creek Reservation, which includes the Watershed Stewardship Center, biking and hiking trails, as well as pavilions and picnic areas. The city also offers 18 parks and a multitude of ways for residents to stay active. In fact, we were one of the first suburbs to build public pickleball courts, long before they were the rage. We are also the only suburb in the area to build an extreme outdoor workout structure. Located at James Day Park, the Warrior Fitness Course attracts many fitness enthusiasts. Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in new restaurants and franchises choosing Parma. In fact, construction of First Watch and McAlister’s Deli on Ridge Road will be completed in 2026. These and other new restaurants, along with the family-owned restaurants and bakeries that have been around for decades, provide a variety of dining options to satisfy all palates. Of course, visitors can’t leave the city without tasting a pierogi or paczki because we are famous for having the best in the area. Another big draw to Parma is our picturesque 18-hole Ridgewood Golf Course, which turned 100 on July 4, 2025. To celebrate the milestone anniversary, the city invited golfers to

play an 18-hole scramble on July 4th. To help commemorate the occasion, golfers played the first two holes 1925-style with hickory sticks and rubber balls the course provided. Not only are we celebrating our past, but we are also looking ahead as we complete construction in fall 2025 on the course’s new event center and clubhouse. We anticipate everyone – not just golfers – using the new facility year-round for hosting special events, practicing swings on the indoor golf simulators, or simply enjoying a bite and beverage at the clubhouse pub. It will be another place in Parma for people to gather and socialize. In addition to our new event center’s grand opening, we are excited about celebrating our bicentennial in 2026. Yes, Parma is turning 200 years old, the same year our nation is turning 250! We will be unearthing a time capsule that was buried in front of City Hall in 1976, organizing activities that highlight our favorite bird – (hint, it’s pink) – and planning monthly events to commemorate this milestone. With a population of more than 81,000, I expect event attendance and participation to be record-breaking, especially during our already popular July 4th parade and December Frosty’s Fest. Whether it is during our bicentennial year or any year, there are many ways to enjoy this city. Flip through this issue and read more about what Parma has to offer.

PARMA’S BICENTENNIAL:
CELEBRATING A CITY BUILT BY COMMUNITY
N
estled south of Cleveland, Parma is more than just the seventh-largest city in the state. It’s also a thriving, tight-knit community built on a foundation of rich history, cultural diversity, and civic pride. As the city gears up for its 200th anniversary in 2026, residents and leaders alike are preparing to celebrate a legacy two centuries in the making. Originally settled in 1816 as Greenbriar by the Benajah Fay family, the area was renamed Parma in 1826, inspired by the Italian city of the same name. Over the next 100 years, Parma evolved steadily – becoming a village in 1924 and gaining city status in 1931, just after successfully defeating an annexation attempt by Cleveland. The post-World War II era brought a dramatic shift. Between 1950 and 1960, Parma’s population exploded from 29,000 to more than 82,000, topping 100,000 in 1970 and earning the title of the fastest-growing city in the United States during that decade. Today, Parma has a population of approximately 81,100, according to the 2020 census. Deeply rooted in cultural tradition, Parma is known for its strong Polish and Ukrainian communities. Along Ridge and State roads, the city’s Polish Village and Ukrainian Village each offer authentic cuisine, vibrant festivals and parades, and beloved events featuring music, dancing, and cultural displays. Annual favorites like the Parma Rib ‘N Rock festival continue to unite residents through food, music, and local pride. Natural beauty is never far away in Parma. Eighteen city parks offer everything from a splash pad and playgrounds to hiking trails and ball fields. Parma also has pickleball courts, disc and mini-golf courses, and a Warrior Fitness Course with 10 workout stations. West Creek Reservation, spanning more than 500 acres, offers scenic trails, mountain bike trails, wetlands, and wildlife-viewing opportunities.

This fall, the city proudly unveiled its new $12.3 million Ridgewood Golf Club & Event Center. The 15,400-squarefoot structure features an event space and a clubhouse connected by a lobby. The rentable event center can host up to 185 guests and is available year-round for special occasions. The clubhouse grill, pub, and golf simulator room are accessible year-round and for everyone to use, not just golfers. Large windows, ample outdoor patio seating, open entertainment areas, and a pavilion for large gatherings give guests an excellent view of Ridgewood’s best asset – the 100-year-old, picturesque golf course. Additionally, The Shoppes at Parma, a reimagined retail and entertainment plaza, adds a modern touch to the city’s suburban charm. Other shopping centers offer a mix of retailers, supermarkets, and local services. While chain stores are prevalent, visitors can find independent shops, bookstores, ethnic bakeries and butchers, and everything in between. Parma is also celebrated for its affordable housing, friendly, safe neighborhoods, active community life, easy access to healthcare, and convenient location to Cleveland. In fact, from the State Road hill, drivers can catch a glimpse of downtown. That spirit of connection will be on full display as the city enters its bicentennial year. The excitement is already building, with a dedicated planning team working to make the 200th anniversary an unforgettable experience for all. Leading the charge is the nonprofit group We Are Parma Proud, in partnership with the City of Parma, local businesses, and community partners. The goal is to honor the city’s past while envisioning its future through a year-long series of commemorative events, activities, and initiatives that highlight what makes Parma special. “From float competitions in the Independence Day Parade to special golf outings, new apparel, and a refreshed visitor’s guide, we are creating something that everyone can be a part of,” said Chris Leo, a spokesperson for We Are Parma Proud. “But most importantly, we’re focused on bringing people together. This is about Parma’s identity and legacy.” Beloved city events like Frosty’s Fest and Picnic in the Park will feature expanded programming and a citywide home decorating contest, expected to include a flurry of flamingo-themed displays that will showcase the community’s fun-loving personality. One of the most anticipated moments will be unearthing a time capsule Pictured above left: Ridgewood Golf Course; Above: Ridgewood Golf Club & Event Center construction.

buried during Parma’s 150th anniversary in 1976 and our nation’s bicentennial. The city anticipates the capsule offering a window into the past and inspiration for a new capsule to be buried at the end of the year. Residents will be encouraged to play an active role and volunteer at events. Updates, fundraisers, and calls for involvement will be shared through the city’s newsletter, website (cityofparma-oh.gov), social media, as well as We Are Parma Proud’s Facebook page. For a city shaped by generations of hardworking families and enduring community bonds, the bicentennial is more than a celebration – it’s a tribute to Parma’s journey and a launchpad for the next generation. Constellation Schools
Welcome to Parma Community Schools
T
he foundation of good teaching and reaching every child is differentiation. This is founded in the principles of “rigor, relevance, and relationships.” At Parma Community Schools we provide learning opportunities that meet the needs of our students. What we want our parents to understand is that rigor doesn’t mean more work, but a great depth of work. It means pushing a student to their level of work capacity in terms of the difficulty, thought, and level of analysis. At PCS we recognize that relevance is especially important to this generation of students that want to know “why” they need to do this or “how” this topic has anything to do with them. They want to know the work is relevant prior to putting effort into the task. Finally, we know that no significant learning takes place without first a relationship. A great educator and principal once said “you have to touch a heart before a child will let you touch their mind.” Be a part of our wonderful learning community. Visit us at PCS and see why we are “The Right Choice for Parents and a Real Chance for Children.”

HOMES & REAL ESTATE
Parma’s Housing Market Positioned for Growth
offering affordability, convenient access to downtown Cleveland, and strong neighborhood connections. The market’s stability appeals to both first-time homebuyers seeking value and seasoned homeowners looking for long-term investment security.
INVENTORY CHALLENGES
Inventory remains the central challenge. A limited supply of homes has kept competition strong, with desirable properties often selling quickly and for above asking price. While new construction and increased homeowner listings are expected to add some relief in 2026, demand continues to outpace supply. This imbalance has favored sellers, but it has also created hurdles for buyers searching for homes within budget.
INTEREST RATES AND AFFORDABILITY
MARKET STABILITY AND GROWTH
The Parma housing market has continued to demonstrate strength and resiliency moving into 2026. Median home prices in the community rose steadily in 2025, reflecting a yearover-year increase of approximately 5–6%. This growth underscores Parma’s reputation as one of Cuyahoga County’s most desirable suburbs—
1 6 Parma Magazine & Community Guide | 2026
moderate growth. Home values are projected to appreciate by 3–5% over the course of the year, supported by steady demand and a resilient local economy. Inventory may gradually improve, but competition among buyers is likely to remain a defining feature. For sellers, this means wellpriced homes will continue to draw strong interest. For buyers, preparation and strategic offers will remain essential.
The past two years brought higher mortgage rates compared to earlier in the decade, but levels remain moderate by historical standards. Rates are expected to ease slightly in 2026, offering some welcome relief to buyers. Despite affordability pressures, Parma continues to stand out as one of the more budget-friendly suburbs in the Greater Cleveland area, keeping it attractive for families, downsizers, and investors alike.
IN CONCLUSION
OUTLOOK FOR 2026
— Tracy Marx, Manager & Coach, North Royalton Howard Hanna 440-971-5600
Looking ahead, Parma’s housing market is positioned for continued,
Parma enters 2026 with a housing market marked by healthy appreciation, limited supply, and enduring appeal. As one of Northeast Ohio’s largest and most affordable suburbs, it offers continued opportunity for both buyers and sellers. The community’s combination of value, location, and lifestyle ensures Parma will remain a desirable place to live and invest in the year ahead.

ot long ago, furniture design leaned heavily on formality and ornamentation. Today, modern trends focus on comfort, function, and clean aesthetics that fit seamlessly into everyday life. When shopping for your home, look for pieces that combine visual appeal with smart, practical features. Modern furniture often emphasizes simplicity, with brands moving away from excessive detail in favor of sleek lines and thoughtful shapes. This shift not only enhances style but also helps reduce visual clutter in the home. Ergonomic designs remain a priority, offering support that promotes health and productivity. From recliners that ease back pain to office chairs with lumbar support, these pieces put comfort at the forefront. Multifunctional furniture is also in demand, with beds that offer hidden storage, lift-top coffee tables that double as workstations, and ottomans that provide both seating and organization.
For living rooms, statement silhouettes and modular sectionals allow for flexible arrangements in open spaces, while a dramatic accent chair or modern coffee table can serve as the focal point. Technology has also found its place in furniture design. Features like built-in charging stations, LED lighting, and cable management bring convenience while preserving a clean, modern look.

A clogged drain can be frustrating
, but many blockages can be cleared with simple at-home methods before calling in a professional. Instead of immediately turning to harsh chemicals, try some proven DIY approaches. Pouring boiling water down the drain in stages can help break down grease or soap buildup. A mix of baking soda and vinegar is another effective option, as the fizzing action works to dissolve organic material before being flushed away with hot water. For tougher clogs, a plunger may provide the necessary force to dislodge debris, while a plumbing snake or auger can reach deeper blockages and remove them directly. However, not all drain issues can be solved with DIY methods. Persistent or recurring clogs, water that drains slowly, or unpleasant odors are signs that the problem may be more serious. Multiple clogged drains in different parts of your home can also indicate trouble with the main sewer line, which requires professional attention. At Ironclad Plumbing & Drain, we specialize in comprehensive drain cleaning services. From stubborn clogs and sewer line blockages to routine maintenance that prevents future issues, our team has the tools and expertise to restore your plumbing system and keep it running smoothly.

Providing Comfort Caring for a loved one
can be a rewarding way to build closer bonds, share memories, and provide comfort. However, caregiving also comes with significant challenges that can quickly become overwhelming. If your loved one’s health declines due to an illness, fall, or unexpected event, you may not have the resources or expertise to provide the level of care they require. In these cases, seeking professional help can provide peace of mind and ensure their safety. It’s important to remember that a loved one’s health issues are not your fault, and sometimes a trained caregiver is the best solution. Caregiving also demands long hours, constant responsibilities, and emotional energy, which can take a toll on your own well-being. When personal health, confidence, or relationships begin to suffer, it may be a sign to consider outside help. Caregiver burnout—marked by stress, poor sleep, declining health, or loss of personal time— affects both you and your loved one. By turning to professional caregivers or assisted living services, you can ensure your loved one receives attentive, high-quality support while also protecting your own health. At Vista Springs Greenbriar Village Grand Estate in Parma, assisted living and memory care mean best-in-class care services and unique, exuberant, and beautiful living spaces. Their Full of Life philosophy encompasses every action and decision taken to help your loved one find joy and peace in each day they spend at the resort-style community. V
accines are a simple, safe way to protect yourself and the people you care about. For over a century, they’ve helped prevent serious diseases and saved millions of lives. Today, they’re still one of the easiest ways to stay healthy. Doctors recommend vaccines for everyone because they protect you and help stop the spread of illness in your community. That’s especially important for kids, older adults, and people with health conditions. Whether it's a flu shot or other routine vaccines like shingles or pneumonia, staying up to date lowers your risk and keeps the people around you safer, too. Vaccines are easy to get at your doctor’s office, local pharmacy, clinic, or community event. If you’re not sure which ones you need, a quick chat with your healthcare provider can help. Getting vaccinated may seem small, but it makes a big difference. It keeps you healthy, protects your loved ones, and helps your community thrive. Every shot is a choice for stronger, safer, and healthier days ahead— because when we all do our part, everyone benefits. For the Love of Gardening The Ridgewood Garden Club
was founded in 1951 by Mrs. J.P. Millard, Mrs. R.O. Bernhardi, and Mrs. R. Stary. In the early days, members met in each other’s homes. As the club grew, meetings moved to locations such as the Third Federal Bank building, Parma Memorial Hall, and the Cuyahoga County Library on Snow Road. Today, we’re back at Parma Memorial Hall, gathering the third Monday of each month at noon, February through November. Our mission is to encourage interest in all aspects of home gardening and horticulture, promote civic beauty, conserve natural resources, engage in community projects, and support the Garden Club of Ohio Scholarship Fund. In 1968, we began our first major Civic & Conservation project—landscaping the entrance to Ridgewood Lake Park. Over time, members planted 101 trees, shrubs, flowers, and bulbs, added a Purple Martin birdhouse, and later, at the request of Mayor Petruska, planted rose bushes around the new split rail fence. We launched our Garden Therapy program in 1977 at the Cleveland Psychiatric Institute, offering crafts and activities for 26 patients. Today, we continue this spirit of service by making holiday crafts for Mt. Alverna residents. In recent years, our civic projects have flourished. Since 2013, we’ve landscaped Stearns Homestead, created an herb garden at Hollywood Park,
24 Parma Magazine & Community Guide | 2026
installed 19 Adopt-A-Park signs, decorated Stearns Farmhouse for the holidays, and planted more than 3,000 daffodil bulbs throughout Parma. Each Christmas, we also design ornaments for a tree at the Cleveland Botanical Garden’s holiday event. In 2019, members proudly installed both a Gold Star and a Blue Star Memorial Marker at Parma Veterans Park, with more than 100 guests, including local and state officials, attending the dedication. The following year, we received a Garden Club of Ohio grant, along with donations from Parma City Council members and veterans’ groups, to refresh the park’s landscaping. Most recently, we’ve partnered with the FootPath Foundation, which brings inner-city youth to the suburbs to experience nature. Our members have helped establish three themed gardens— Pollinator, Serenity, and Sensitivity—providing plants, tools, labor, and gardening know-how. From June through October, more than 1,000 children from grades 2-7 will enjoy these green spaces while learning about nature, animals, and plants. For more than 70 years, Ridgewood Garden Club has been committed to beautifying our community and sharing our love of gardening. We look forward to welcoming future members to carry our mission forward. Find more information and updates on Facebook. — Sandy Rogers, President, Ridgewood Garden Club

Since its founding,
West Creek Conservancy has been a model of citizen action and land conservation. Initially embracing the much-needed role of an urban land trust serving Greater Cleveland, West Creek ultimately evolved into a diverse nonprofit conservation organization that serves the region. The organization has protected thousands of acres in communities across the region. While doing so, it has placed importance on water quality improvement, storm water abatement, wetland and riparian corridor restoration, environmental education and outreach, historic preservation, and natural resource stewardship. West Creek continues to share its expertise and provide land conservation services to individuals, partner organizations, and communities. West Creek envisions healthier and more vibrant communities through the conservation and restoration of our
natural areas and streams, as well as the creation of greenways and recreational trails. West Creek’s mission is to enrich the lives of all people in Northeast Ohio by conserving natural habitats, restoring the ecological value of our region’s lands and waters, and expanding opportunities to connect people from all cultures to experience nature and discover our great outdoors.

Stearns Homestead
is a 48-acre working farm nestled in the heart of Parma. Settled by Lyman Stearns in the 1850s, the Homestead has been offering a glimpse into farm life and Parma’s past since 1980. The Homestead consists of Lyman Stearn’s home, built in 1855, the Gibbs Home, built in 1920, and the Yankee Barn, built in 1849. Stearns Homestead is maintained by the Parma Area Historical Society, a non-profit group made up of volunteers who love history and preservation. The society runs on generous donations from our members and the public. Group tours are available, and the cabin is available for rental for parties and meetings. Home to the Homestead Hoofers, the largest 4-H Club in Cuyahoga County, the Homestead offers the public a chance to visit the farm, meet the farm animals who reside here, tour the historic homes, and shop in the country store. Events are held throughout the year, such as Art on the Farm, WWII on the Homestead, Lantern Tour, Fall Festival, and A Homestead Christmas, complete with a visit from Santa. As we head into 2026 and begin to celebrate the bicentennial of Parma's designation as a township, the Historical Society will be offering our visitors ways to learn about Parma’s early settlers and celebrate the occasion with a historical flair. COMMUNITY INFORMATION
100+ Years of Your Library
A
s Parma celebrates 200 years, your local libraries are proud to have been part of the story for more than a century. The Parma Powers and Parma-Snow branches of Cuyahoga County Public Library have grown alongside the community, offering spaces to learn, create, and connect. From a baby’s first giggle at storytime to a lifelong reader’s thoughtful participation in a book discussion, there’s something for every age and interest. The makerspace at our Parma Snow branch invites you to dream big; whether that means 3D printing a prototype, laser engraving, or

crafting a handmade gift. For those learning English, our ESOL classes at the Parma Powers branch provide support, friendship, and the confidence to thrive in a new language. We also offer inclusive programming, ensuring that everyone in Parma can explore new ideas and experiences. The PALS adaptive programming for all abilities continues to grow at our Parma Snow branch. Whether you've come to the library to research, attend a culinary workshop, try your hand at art, or simply relax with a good book, you’ll find a welcoming place to belong. Beyond books and events, we have comfortable and engaging spaces to meet your needs for studying and meetings. You can apply for a passport, utilize our printing options, and access amazing databases. Find a full listing of our services on our website at cuyahogalibrary.org anytime. In our city’s milestone year, the Parma libraries remain dedicated to inspiring curiosity, sparking creativity, and celebrating the stories— past, present, and future— that make Parma home.
