“Cooper Disposal has been incredible to work with. They cut my dumpster bill by 30 percent per year and Mike Cooper is always available to help my company out anytime we need anything.”
Ben Fligner, Fligner’s Market
“I use Cooper Disposal for 2 reasons. #1 is that they always provide great service and fast turnaround on their boxes. #2 and probably the most important, Mike Cooper is always giving back to his local community, so I know every box I buy from him a portion of that is going to a great organization or youth sports program in the community.”
Zack Mitchell, Westland Heating and Air Conditioning
“Mike & Sheila Cooper are always willing to help Avon Sports. Last year, Cooper Disposal donated all the dumpsters needed to demo the old Locker Room. The Cooper’s donated an equipment shed for youth football and are always asking what else they can do. They are the best of the best and make the City of Avon a better place.”

Welcome to North Ridgeville
This summer, I invite you to enjoy the great outdoors. There’s lots to do, whether you’re taking kids to the playground or enjoying a concert at South Central Park, getting some exercise on our network of multipurpose trails, or going bird watching at the Sandy Ridge Reservation of the Lorain County Metro Parks. North Ridgeville Parks and Recreation has a wide variety of programming to suit every interest and ability, including fitness and exercise classes, arts and dance programs, adult and youth sports, health and wellness topics, adult education and more. The biggest event in town, the 48th Annual North Ridgeville Corn Festival, will be held August 11 to 13 along Bainbridge Road. It’s always a great time! While we celebrate our local heritage, we are also actively planning for our future. The Ridgeville Ready master plan process has brought a tremendous diversity of residents, business owners and members of our civic organizations together to think about how North Ridgeville could best grow and change. While we have heard from many of you, our work is not done and there remains the opportunity to have your voice heard. Visit RidgevilleReady.com for the latest news about the master plan including a schedule of upcoming public engagement opportunities.
Along the lines of growth and change, you’ll see numerous projects underway in North Ridgeville, both
adding to our tax base and improving our infrastructure. We’re welcoming new businesses to town, from retail and restaurants to a major trucking terminal for Dayton Freight. City capital projects slated for this year include the Barres Road Realignment at Stoney Ridge Road and the Cypress Avenue Extension. Pre-construction work continues on the Mills Creek Conservation and Flood Control Project and the peanut-shaped roundabout at Mills, Stoney Ridge and Avalon. Many of these projects are years in the making and it is exciting to see them progress toward reality.
Learn more about city initiatives and stay connected with us by visiting our website at nridgeville.org and following the City of North Ridgeville and various departments on our social media channels. Every Friday I post a weekly video with news you need and highlights of what’s happening in our city. Also, I invite you to stop by City Hall for one of my monthly Coffee and Conversations where I share updates and answer your questions.
We hope you enjoy the 2023 North Ridgeville Community Guide. Thanks to the support of our local businesses and community partners, this publication is brought to you free of charge. Please shop local and show your appreciation for those businesses whose advertising helped to make this magazine possible.
Sincerely,
Mayor Kevin CorcoranQ&A with Mayor Corcoran
Q. In last year’s issue, we learned about North Ridgeville’s branding process and got a look at the new logo. Tell us how the city brand is being implemented.
A.We’ve accomplished quite a bit in the last year! We rolled out our new logo in both internal and external communications including letterhead, business cards, forms and applications. For visitors to city hall, you’ll see that our new brand and logo have been incorporated around the building. Our Council Chambers received a refresh earlier this year using our new brand colors. There’s a new logo in the public entrance to Chambers and there’s even one on my office wall. Perhaps you’ve seen it in the background of my weekly videos. Citywide signage is a bigger project on the horizon. We will be installing new welcome signs at our city gateways and facility signs at our parks this year. New colorful streetscape banners have livened up Center Ridge Road, which will be updated for each season. Even our city vehicles now have the North Ridgeville brand. Another important project this year will be updating our city’s website. We’re looking to make improvements not just to the visual look of the site but also to improve the functionality and make it more user-friendly for residents and others seeking information and services.
How has the public reacted to the new look?
I’ve heard a lot of positive responses from the community. I think people like the new logo and the banners have caught people’s attention. The city has changed so much and this brand feels new and fresh, reflective of where we are today. But it’s important for residents to know that we have not abandoned our city seal, which is important to our history. Our official seal is still used in certain situations. Our branding allows for more flexibility in application.

Q. It’s orange barrel season in North Ridgeville! What roadway projects are underway and what can we expect the rest of 2023?
A. There are a lot of projects happening in 2023, that’s for sure! Some of the notable city projects include the Barres Road realignment, the Mills/Stoney Ridge/
Avalon peanut-shaped roundabout, the Cypress Avenue extension and our annual streets program which is a combination of asphalt resurfacing and full-depth concrete replacement. ODOT is repaving Center Ridge Road from city line to city line, except for the center area that was widened. The Ohio Turnpike Commission is replacing the bridge over Race Road, and later in the year, the railroad will be replacing the Maddock Road bridge. Residents should expect road closures and to see plenty of detour signs this year.
When
can we expect all of
this work to be complete?
Sales/Service/Supportfor:
We expect this work to be complete, or well underway, by the end of the year. However, we’ve learned that with big or complex projects, we need to remain flexible. Project schedules can change for various reasons. In some instances, our funders, such as the state or county, dictate the timeline for a project. In other cases, contractor availability or even weather can impact a project. The most important thing is to ensure a project is done right and that we keep communicating with the public about what to expect during construction.
Q. In April, Council approved a reorganization of city departments and divisions. Why was this done and how will it benefit residents?
A.The reorganization came about when the SafetyService Director moved on and took a new job as the
Lorain County Administrator. This provided us an opening to take a different look at the operations of our city government. The reorganization is an effort to make local government more efficient, to provide greater support to our employees and to improve services for our residents. The supervisory duties of the Safety-Service Director have been split among three group leaders. We’ve created more of a team-based structure. I think smaller, more nimble teams will be able to function better and serve our community more efficiently than the old structure.
Q.The city’s master plan process, Ridgeville Ready, has been underway since late 2022. Where do things stand now?
A.We have a great momentum going with our master plan. Our steering committee has been meeting monthly and our first round of public engagement in the spring solicited a lot of feedback from our community. It was definitely a success. The second round of public engagement will be this summer.
CITY OVERVIEW
Q&A with Mayor Corcoran
7 Continued from page 7
What have you heard so far?
We’ve learned a lot about where we are as a city and where we can go in the future. We’ve discovered some challenges, too. Overall, the public input and technical analysis have been extremely valuable in allowing us to plan for our future in ways that we hadn’t considered. It was interesting to me that the comments from the general public have mirrored those thoughts we have expressed internally. For example, the community desires a greater focus on economic development and business growth, which has been one of my top priorities. It is good to have confirmation that our thoughts are supported by the input of North Ridgeville residents.
How can residents stay informed and involved in this process?
There are a lot of avenues of information. One of the best is to visit RidgevilleReady.com and sign up for email alerts. We’ve also been putting out information on our
city website, our social media, our various newsletters and in my weekly videos. All of our steering committee meetings are open to the public, so that’s a great way for people to see how this process is unfolding and how the plan’s recommendations are coming together.
Q. Do you have any final thoughts?
Which of our banking services are available in your community?
Which of our banking services are available in your community?
Which of our banking services are available in your community?
We’ve talked a lot about government business, which is important, but I also want to encourage residents to get outside and enjoy summertime in North Ridgeville. We learned in our master plan workshops just how much the community loves their local parks! We have summer concerts scheduled at South Central Park and families can take advantage of many different amenities including our splash pad, playgrounds, walking trails, basketball courts, pickleball, tennis and more. Later this summer, work will begin on a new Veterans Memorial at South Central Park thanks to the hard work and fundraising of many volunteers and community organizations. Check out nrvetsmemorial.com to learn more or get involved. And, of course, there’s the annual Corn Festival in August. There are a lot of reasons to get outside this summer!

Empowering Students To
Design Their Preferred Future
The North Ridgeville City School District (NRCS) has seen continued growth in enrollment as the population of the city continues to increase. Since 2015 we’ve added over 600 students to the district with our projected enrollment for 2024 surpassing 4,800.
Our hard-working staff continue to create the best educational experiences possible. We have 624 employees of which 327 have either a Master’s Degree or an ESEA endorsement.
As a district, our goal is to help our students reach their full potential. Along with the core classes of math, English, science, and history, we have a wide range of electives from American Sign Language to Woodworking. We also offer a variety of Advanced Placement classes designed to prepare students for their college career after high school. Through our partnership with Lorain County
Community College, 23 students have earned over 1,947 hours of college credit by participating in College Credit Plus classes.
The district is proud to have the only fully accredited STEAM school in Lorain County and one of only 70 in Ohio. Ranger High-Tech Academy houses students in grades 2 through 8 with an enrollment of 307 during the 2022-2023 school year.
Students can also continue on this pathway with STEAM classes offered through high school. These students have the opportunity to experience hands-on, collaborative project-based learning.
NRCS offers 77 different extracurricular activities. In our combined sports programs, we have over 720 student athletes. We also offer programming for students to succeed in the arts, such as band, choir, art, and drama.
We have several ways for students to get involved with other school sponsored organizations such as the antibullying club, key club, robotics club, and student council.
We strive to help each student find their passion
Inclusivity has always been a priority for the district. This year, North Ridgeville City Schools hosted the Unified Basketball Tournament which included five local schools competing in a round robin tournament. Young entrepreneurs at the high school have created the brand Able Not Label, a business with students of different abilities aiding in the design, creation, and sales of Ranger merchandise. The Sparkle Squad is an inclusive spirit team that cheers at games and different school events.
NRCS continues to grow and evolve in order to create the best educational experiences for our students. Our staff is dedicated to empowering students to design their preferred future.
Earn as You Learn
Lorain County Community College is ramping up its Earn and Learn programs, providing students opportunities to earn an income while they gain relevant job experience and attend classes. This format, where students split their time between coursework and industry-specific employment, began in LCCC’s microelectronic manufacturing program. It’s been so successful — maintaining 100% employment rates for students postgraduation — that the college has replicated the format across many career pathways.
Today, LCCC students in nursing, automation engineering technologies, cyber security, software development, data analytics, digital fabrication and CNC machining can participate in Earn and Learn programs,
increasing their chances of graduating debt-free, building their resume, and securing a job before finishing school. Learn more about LCCC’s Earn and Learn programs at lorainccc.edu/earnandlearn.

Riddell Leads Football into the Future
Whether it’s Friday Night Lights or tuning into games on Saturdays & Sundays, Ohioans love their football.
But, you might not know that football runs right through the neighborhoods in North Ridgeville at Riddell’s ~350,000 square foot production facility located at 7501 Performance Lane. A centerpiece of Northeast Ohio for decades and situated in North Ridgeville since 2017, hundreds of dedicated teammates at Riddell are working to improve athlete protection for football players here in Ohio and around the world. This facility produces new helmets for youth through the NFL, custom shoulder pads for the elite, and distributes a variety of products, including collectible helmets.
The biggest activity at Riddell’s North Ridgeville location is equipment reconditioning, which is the refurbishment and recertification of football helmets and maintenance of shoulder pads and athletic gear. Whether you’re a team or a parent of a young athlete, annual reconditioning advances player protection and prolongs the effective life of the equipment.
Any good team starts with strong leadership, and Riddell’s got it with Rick Brown, Drew Dixon, and Leigh Cullen as part of the management team. Each brings unique career experiences to their work, with one thing they all share being a love of football.
As Director of Manufacturing Operations, Rick applies his knowledge from across industries to Riddell as he oversees all manufacturing activities, operations, and maintenance of the plant. Rick is valued for his team building and focus on process improvement, endearing him to colleagues. He also believes in the work, “My favorite aspect of working for Riddell is the ability to supply a product that is easy to get behind and support.
If you choose to wear a Riddell football helmet, you’re getting the very best.”
A North Ridgeville resident, Drew Dixon, Director of Distribution and Strategy, is proud that Riddell chose our city. Drew remembers Riddell’s open house event with over 5,000 people getting a firsthand look at the facility. “It was exciting to see how the community was interested to learn about what we do. North Ridgeville has fully embraced Riddell.” As a former collegiate player, Drew enjoys blending his passion for football with his career.
People are your greatest asset. That’s what Leigh Cullen, Director of Human Resources, declares. As a manufacturing lifer, Leigh says, “I love the team energy and resilience on display to get the job done. That’s what makes our organization successful.” Also residing in North Ridgeville, Leigh is pleased to know her town plays such a big role in football.
With several manufacturing, operations, and officebased positions available, employment stability, and a competitive benefits program, Riddell welcomes the opportunity to add you to their team. Riddell is hiring!

Kevin and Robin Crow Harvest Ridge Church
Pastors Kevin and Robin Crow moved to North Ridgeville in 1992 to start what would become Harvest Ridge Church.
They gathered a core group that began meeting on May 2, 1992, in Liberty Elementary School. After several location changes, a permanent facility was constructed at 35600 Lorain Road.
For 30 years, the church has experienced consistent growth. Each weekend, hundreds of people gather to worship. From the beginning, one major focus has been a place for children and youth to learn about God and grow in their faith. The many young families that participate each weekend are evidence that this goal is being met.
The church is also known for HarvestPalooza, a yearly party thrown by the church for the community. Every Labor Day weekend, South Central Park is filled on Sunday night with kids’ games, bounce houses, live music, free food, and a fireworks show. The event is free!
Harvest Ridge also has monthly feeding programs, recovery programs and a quality Preschool, as well as many other ministries and outreaches.

First Federal Lakewood is the largest depositor-owned bank headquartered in Ohio. And, as a mutual bank, we’re focused on making decisions that benefit our customers, our community and our employees - not shareholders,” states Martin DeVries, Regional Branch Manager.
They’re focused on leveraging their strength to benefit the communities they serve by reinvesting deposits from customers right back into the local community. Which means for North Ridgeville customers, deposits stay close to home and may help make possible a mortgage loan for a neighbor over on Lorain Road or help a business owner right here on Center Ridge Road secure financing.
“I invite you to visit our North Ridgeville branch,” says Martin. “As a local community bank, we work hard to offer our customers a wide variety of products and customer service that is second to none. We welcome the opportunity to be your trusted financial partner.”
The Northridge Health Center has been a part of the North Ridgeville Community for 38 years, building a reputation for successful therapy outcomes, thanks to the longevity of their nursing and management staff. When you come to Northridge, you will develop a quality relationship with your caregivers.
As the 2020 North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, their experienced therapy team will assist you with your rehab in a recently remodeled and expanded therapy gym that features state-of-the-art equipment.
Northridge’s services include top-rated physical, occupational and speech therapies, advanced diagnostics, IV therapy and tracheotomy care, wound care from an on-site certified wound nurse, fall reduction programming, hospice and long-term care.

We feel fortunate to have established civic and community groups as sponsors of our spaghetti dinners, including North Ridgeville Lions Club, VFW Post 9871, the Rotary Club of North Ridgeville and Liston Funeral Home. Our office has partnered with the North Ridgeville Branch Library, North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce, and North Ridgeville City Schools. We continue to grow our partnership network with organizations and agencies that serve the older adult community to provide beneficial programs at the center, including working with Dementia Friends on creating a dementia friendly community locally.
For more about the center or volunteer information, call 440-353-0828, or visit nridgeville.org/SeniorCenter, or Facebook at facebook.com/NorthRidgevilleSeniorCenter.

The best way to be healthy and happy is keeping your home and business clean. Maintaining a clean environment reduces pollution, preserves our biosphere, protects endangered species, and helps preserve the earth’s natural resources.
Cleaning should always start from the least soiled areas (cleanest) first to the most soiled areas (dirtiest) last and from higher levels to lower levels so that debris may fall on the floor and is cleaned last. Detergent and/or disinfectant solutions must be discarded after each use.
Periodically, cleaning your carpet and upholstery, tile and grout, drapery, and area rugs will ensure that your home remains as clean and germ free as possible. You might want to consider a monthly or quarterly maintenance program.
If you experience a fire, flood, or vandalism in your home, there are experts available to help restore your home to its original shape. Find a reputable company that will work with your insurance agent so that your claim will receive prompt attention. Stabilizing your
home after a disaster can make a huge difference in the outcome of remediation.
Duraclean, located in Avon, can help you keep your home and business sparkling clean. No job is too small or large for them. Contact them for your cleaning and restoration
When your environment is clean, you feel happy, motivated and healthy.

For All of Your Pet’s Needs
The goal of our Rehabilitation Department at Animal Clinic Northview is to restore mobility and alleviate pain, helping your pet live their best life. Our certified Rehabilitation team will create a tailored plan to help renew your pet’s health and wellbeing. This plan may include Therapeutic exercises, Laser Light Therapy or Hydrotherapy using our Underwater Treadmill or Resistance Swimming Pool.
Because continuing therapy at home is also an important part of your pet’s rehabilitation, we will develop a Home Exercise Program for your pet with appropriate exercises and walking programs. This helps continue their progress at home. Our Rehabilitation team is also available to help navigate selecting harnesses, ramps, slings, and wheelchairs.
