Summer is also a season of progress in North Ridgeville. You will see construction and improvements to our parks, streets, and utility infrastructure. We are revisiting our Parks and Recreation Master Plan to ensure our facilities meet the needs of today’s families while planning for tomorrow — enhancing amenities and giving residents of all ages spaces to play, explore, and stay active.

We are proud to have earned Tree City USA recognition this year, reflecting our commitment to long-term stewardship of our green spaces. As development continues, we remain focused on protecting neighborhood character while supporting business growth along key corridors like Cypress Avenue and Taylor Parkway.

In 2026,

our nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In North Ridgeville, that milestone connects to our own story. Ours is a community shaped by resilience, growth, and a pioneering spirit that stretches back more than two centuries.

North Ridgeville was founded in 1810 by settlers from Waterbury, Connecticut, who traded their rocky New England farmland for opportunity in the Western Reserve. The settlement was first named Rootstown in honor of Ephraim Root of the Connecticut Land Company. Center Ridge was among the first areas settled in 1810, selected by the earliest pioneers for its favorable location.

At the time, the area was dense forest marked by five distinct ridges: Sugar Ridge, Chestnut Ridge, Butternut Ridge, Stoney Ridge, and Center Ridge. In 1813, the township was renamed Ridgeville for those defining landforms. The name was later changed to North Ridgeville in 1829 to distinguish it from another Ohio community.

Churches and schools were established soon after settlement, laying the foundation for civic life in the community. The first post office opened in 1820. The Old Town Hall was constructed in 1882 and still stands as a landmark and reminder of the civic pride that shaped our early years.

Growth followed determination. By the mid-1800s, sawmills, blacksmith shops, and cheese factories supported the local economy.

Stagecoach service began in 1827, followed by rail service in 1853 and later the Cleveland Southwestern trolley line. The opening of the Ohio Turnpike in 1956 further accelerated business growth, and in 1960, 150 years after its founding, North Ridgeville officially became a city.

ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE: It is 167 years old and is owned by the Historical Society, who spent many years restoring it to the way it would have looked when it was in use from 1859 until 1924. It is located on Jaycox Road, just south of Mills Road and is maintained as a museum.

This effort is not simply a look back into history. It is about recognizing the values that continue to shape our city today.

Investing in Our Future While we honor our past, we are also focused on what comes next.

Parks and recreation improvements are enhancing connectivity, accessibility, and play throughout the city. Long-range planning efforts will guide capital investments so our public spaces evolve alongside resident needs.

America 250 in Action Throughout 2026, North Ridgeville will participate in America 250-Ohio, the statewide initiative commemorating the semiquincentennial. Locally, the celebration will unfold month by month through themed events, partnerships, and programs that reflect our hometown pride.

Murals Across Ohio NORTH RIDGEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ARTS IN ACTION students are gaining statewide recognition, with five of their murals featured in Murals Across Ohio as part of the America 250-Ohio celebration.

In 2025, students unveiled two commissioned murals at the Wink Properties building, 35423 Center Ridge Road, home to Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar and Modern Massage and Spa. Building on that success, the program expanded in 2026 with two additional murals created for KLT Insurance at 6480 Pitts Boulevard. Most recently, students completed another mural at Buns and Brews Sportsbar and Grill (formerly Between the Bun), further showcasing local talent and creativity throughout the community.

Murals Across Ohio is a statewide initiative highlighting public art in all 88 counties, celebrating Ohio’s history, culture, and community pride as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Established by the Ohio Arts Council, the program catalogs and showcases murals across the state while honoring artists, telling the stories of local communities, and encouraging tourism through exploration of these vibrant works.

Creating Modern Learning Environments THE NORTH RIDGEVILLE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT is excited to share the continued progress of major construction projects that will support our students, staff, and community for years to come.

Earlier this year, the new Transportation and Maintenance Facility, located just north of the Academic Center on Ranger Way, officially opened and has been fully operational since January. This modern facility is already enhancing the district’s ability to efficiently support daily operations. As part of the transition, the previous maintenance building has been demolished and the former transportation building is currently serving as construction offices while work continues on the new high school. By utilizing this existing space for construction offices, the district is saving money because Hammond Construction does not need to bring in additional office trailers.

New High School Construction Underway Just south of the current high school on Bainbridge Road, construction activity is in full swing. The project has now entered the

vertical construction phase, meaning the structure will soon begin rising above ground. It is an exciting milestone that will make the future high school increasingly visible to the community.

This new facility will provide expanded opportunities for our students and staff, including additional curricular programs, collaborative learning spaces, and modern performing arts and athletic facilities. Plans include a new auditorium to support our music and drama programs, large gymnasiums, and a natatorium designed to enhance opportunities for student-athletes.

Our Educational Future We recently hosted our annual State of North Ridgeville event, which began with a community open house at the new Transportation and Maintenance Facility. Following the tour, we shared construction updates and highlighted several Career Technical Education programs designed to prepare students for success in a technology-driven world. In every step of this work, from modern facilities to expanded academic and career opportunities, our focus remains on creating learning environments where students can thrive. As we continue moving forward together as a community, the North Ridgeville City School District remains dedicated to empowering students to design their preferred future.

Avon sisters Anna and Sarah Lewis know all about the cost savings of transfer. Anna earned 60 LCCC credits through College Credit Plus while attending Avon High School. Harvest Ridge Church

astors Kevin and Robin Crow moved to North Ridgeville in 1992 to start what would become Harvest Ridge Church.

They gathered a core group that began meeting on May 2, 1992, in Liberty Elementary School. After several location changes, a permanent facility was constructed at 35600 Lorain Road.

For 34 years, the church has experienced consistent growth. Each weekend, hundreds of people gather to worship. From the beginning, one major focus has been a place for children and youth to learn about God and grow in their faith. The many young families that participate each weekend are evidence that this goal is being met.

The church is also known for HarvestPalooza, a yearly party thrown by the church for the community. Every Labor Day weekend, South Central Park is filled on Sunday night with kids’ games, bounce houses, live music and free food. The event is free!

Harvest Ridge also has monthly feeding programs, recovery programs and a quality Preschool, as well as many other ministries and Kevin and Robin Crow, Pastors outreaches.

Investing in North Ridgeville At its North Ridgeville facility, Riddell continues to strengthen its connection to the game of football while investing in the local community. collegiate football player, Dixon brings a personal connection to the mission behind the work. Over the past 12 years, he has helped support and grow Riddell’s financial, supply chain, and manufacturing operations.

“Football has always been about community, teamwork, and opportunity.

Being able to support that from right here in North Ridgeville—while also creating jobs and investing in the local area—is something we take very seriously.” Dixon says.

Outside of work, Dixon remains active locally and enjoys traveling with his family and coaching his sons’ flag football teams.

The senior center engages several dozen volunteers for a variety of tasks: 4 Front Desk Assistants 4 Meal Servers 4 AARP Tax Preparation 4 Meals-On-Wheels Assembly, Packing and Delivery 4 Dinner Fundraisers 4 Nurses who perform monthly blood pressure checks

To illustrate the scope of work performed in 2025, more than 2,600 volunteer hours were donated, translating to the pay equivalent of $28,483.00. What can’t be measured, though, is the amount of heart they bring to their roles. Some volunteers pull double duty,

helping at the front desk, serving meals, or assisting with MealsOn-Wheels preparation and packing. Volunteer Vicki McClintock pulls off the unique volunteer hat trick — front desk, AARP Tax Preparation, and serves as a substitute MOW driver. When asked why she volunteers, Vicki responded, “We provide many helpful services for seniors, as well as fun and engaging activities. But it has also provided me with a sense of purpose and friendships with the staff, other volunteers, and seniors. It is one of the best things I’ve done in retirement.” Sherry Ballard, who also volunteers in multiple capacities, explains, “It’s fulfilling, it gives your life purpose. One of my favorite times is when someone new walks in, handing them a newsletter and explaining all the great activities offered.”

Volunteers play a critical role in brightening the days of those served by the center, a homebound Meals-On-Wheels client, who is unable to socialize with others, or serving a meal with a smile to someone at Monday Soup Lunch or Men’s Breakfast.

Today’s dog owners are more informed, more involved, and more invested in their pets’ well-being than ever before. Training is no longer viewed simply as teaching a dog to sit or stay — it’s now part of a broader approach to canine wellness that includes mental stimulation, social development, and physical fitness.

Playing a Pivotal Role for Local Events THE LORAIN COUNTY VISITORS BUREAU proudly serves as the marketing department for Lorain County, Ohio. It promotes a wide range of local events and activities annually, including the Discover Aviation Airplane & Car Show, the Lorain International Festival, which celebrates the county's rich cultural diversity, the Lorain County Fair — the second-largest fair in Ohio — and the Corn Festival held in North Ridgeville.

One of the county's most beloved summer traditions is the North Ridgeville Corn Festival. Originally established to commemorate the U.S. Bicentennial, the festival has grown into a three-day event that attracts visitors from across Northeast

Ohio. True to its roots, the event continues to offer free admission, free entertainment, and free parking, ensuring accessibility for all attendees. Saturday morning welcomes the highly anticipated annual Car Show, featuring more than 150 classic and custom vehicles. Festivalgoers can also look forward to the corn-eating contest, with separate divisions for children, teens, and adults.

Adding to the excitement, amusement rides return to the festival grounds for another year of family-friendly fun. Don't miss the parade on Sunday afternoon, accompanied by an awards presentation and the introduction of visiting royalty.

Of course, no visit to the Corn Festival is complete without indulging in the signature sweet corn offerings, including Amish-style sweet corn, Mexican street corn, and grilled corn. With over 100 food vendors and concessions, there's something available to satisfy every craving.

CONVENIENT, ACCESSIBLE, and truly one of a kind, the Lorain County Collection Center and Lorain County Sustainability Learning Center have become invaluable resources for Lorain County residents. Open three days a week, year-round, the Collection Center makes recycling easy — residents can drop off a wide variety of hard-to-recycle materials without ever leaving their car, and there is no cost to use the service. While some counties offer limited facilities for difficult-to-manage materials, many have none at all — making Lorain County’s comprehensive, user-friendly approach stand out.

Located at 540 S. Abbe Road in Elyria, the Collection Center first opened in June 2010 and now serves more than 19,000 vehicles each year. Building on this success, Lorain County Solid Waste Management District partnered with the Lorain County Port Authority in 2022 to expand operations by transforming adjacent space into the Sustainability Learning Center (SLC). This addition includes a classroom and interactive exhibit area designed to educate students and adults on reducing, reusing, and recycling, while encouraging sustainable everyday choices. Following a ribbon-cutting in late 2024, the SLC has already welcomed hundreds of students and hosted community meetings and networking events.

The Collection Center’s unique indoor drive-through design has also made it a versatile community asset, recently supporting Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio programs by providing a reliable, weather-protected location for food distribution.

Come Out and Play!

North Ridgeville features four community parks totaling over 113 acres, each offering a variety of recreational amenities.

Shady Drive Complex is the largest at nearly 60 acres, while South Central Park is the most amenity-rich, boasting everything from disc golf and pickleball to fishing and a splash pad. Be sure to check out the new playground! Root Road Park and Frontier Park round out the system at around 12 acres each, offering soccer, play structures, pavilions, and South Central Park more. All parks are open dawn to dusk, with lighted facilities available until 11:00 p.m.

StoryWalk® at South Central Park combines literacy with physical activity. Children’s picture book pages are mounted on frames that are then laid out on the .7-mile trail, inviting children, families, caregivers, teachers, and others to follow along the path. For easy access, use the State Route 83 entrance to the park. The StoryWalk® is located off the parking lot near the duck pond and then wraps around the wooden area. Both the starting and ending points are accessible from the parking lot. The stations are evenly placed. The North Ridgeville Branch Library will change the books monthly, April through November — weather permitting.

Part of Lorain County Metro Parks, Sandy Ridge Reservation is a 526-acre wetland and wildlife preserve that has become one of the most popular birding destinations in Lorain County. The park is divided almost equally between forest, meadow, and marsh, and features a 2-mile trail, a playground, picnic tables, and a visitor’s center with two ponds spanned by a footbridge. The Perry F. Johnson Wetland Center offers a meeting room and a screened-in porch overlooking a garden.

An addition to Sandy Ridge Reservation, Sandy Ridge West, located at 7020 Case Road, boasts 207 acres of land rich with wildlife and a new 1.8-mile walking trail through forests and fields. loraincountymetroparks.com

THE LORAIN PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM is celebrating its 125th Anniversary as its Articles of Incorporation were signed in 1901.

LPLS began bookmobile service to North Ridgeville in 1938, and by the early 1950s, residents began asking for a branch of their own. The city’s first library, a meager 800-square-foot space, opened in a storefront in the Tran Building on Avon Belden Road in 1958.

In 1977, the branch moved into the remodeled 1,800-squarefoot Old Town Hall on Center Ridge Road and then into the former 5,000-square-foot bank building on Jaycox in 1989.

In May of 2002, the groundbreaking was held to build the current 27,500-square-foot branch on Bainbridge Road. The grand opening was held a year later, and circulation more than doubled.

Since then, technology has been continuously updated, passport application services and culinary programs are now offered, and resources such as fishing poles and adult bikes have been added. Recent renovations included the addition of a Create Space, a dedicated Teen Space and additional meeting rooms.

The library continues to collaborate with several community partners, including North Ridgeville City Schools, North Ridgeville Heart & Sole, the North Ridgeville Senior Center, North Ridgeville Parks and Rec, and the City of North Ridgeville itself, which it is proud to work with on America 250, a yearlong celebration highlighting the city’s heritage, as well as the country’s.
