Balance of Community, Convenience, and Growth

Brunswick continues to grow into one of Northeast Ohio’s most attractive communities for families, thanks to its strategic location, affordability, and strong sense of community. With a population of about 35,000, it remains Medina County’s largest city and a hub for residential, commercial, and recreational development. Brunswick’s location along I-71 makes it ideal for commuters to Cleveland or Akron and supports businesses that benefit from highway access. The city’s industrial parks near the interstate are well-suited for logistics-focused companies, while retail and dining options continue to expand along Routes 42 and 303.

Recent commercial additions have enhanced Brunswick’s appeal. Meijer and other major retailers provide convenient shopping, while restaurants like First Watch, Mission BBQ, and Culver’s add variety. On the city’s south end, Market 42—a multicultural, mixed-use development—features food and shopping vendors and a seasonal farmers market in a communal space.

Brunswick is also known for its green spaces, with over 350 acres across 23 parks. Brunswick Lake Park is a highlight, with 79 acres, a one-mile walking trail, wetlands boardwalks, and access to the Susan Hambley Nature Center, in partnership with the Medina County Park District.

Two major construction projects are underway. Brunswick City Schools is building a new 302,000-squarefoot high school, set to open for the 2027–2028 school year. Meanwhile, a new 25,790-square-foot fire station on Hadcock Road will enhance emergency response and meet growing community needs. These investments reflect Brunswick's ongoing commitment to education, safety, and long-term growth.

Brunswick continues to evolve from a quiet suburb into a thriving, supportive place to live, work, and raise a family.

ENRICHMENT THROUGH DIVERSITY

Brunswick Hills Township, established in 1960, was founded by residents seeking a more communityfocused form of local governance—one that allowed neighbors to have a direct voice in how their township was managed. The township is overseen by a board of three elected Trustees who work collaboratively to make decisions that benefit the community. Additionally, an elected Fiscal Officer manages the township’s annual budget, which exceeds $5 million, ensuring the smooth operation of local services and infrastructure.

As part of Ohio’s township system, Brunswick Hills does not levy a local income tax. The majority of property tax revenue—over 60%—goes directly to supporting local education, specifically the Brunswick and Highland school districts. The remaining portion of the property taxes funds essential Medina County services, including parks, libraries, the county home, the health department, the achievement center, the anti-drug task force, and other vital community programs.

This governance model supports Brunswick Hills' continued growth as a safe, welcoming, and wellmaintained township, where residents benefit from both strong public services and a responsive local government.

Brunswick Hills seeks to preserve a way of life rich with natural surroundings. From rural homes and small farms, open space in planned developments, and two county parks— Plum Creek and Princess Ledges— there is an abundance of wildlife and outstanding natural features. In 2003, citizen-led efforts contributed to the expansion of Plum Creek Park by over 80 acres, including the addition of a native hardwood forest.

Whether residing in a planned development with designated open space, on a large-acre lot, a family farm, or within one of the township’s apartment complexes or condominium and cluster home communities, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to get involved and learn more about the unique character and offerings of Brunswick Hills Township. SMALL TOWN, Big Hearts

Hinckley Township sits on 25 square miles in the northeastern corner of Medina County and is staffed with full-time Fire, Police, and Service Departments. The Township is run by three elected officials, Trustees Swedyk, Ascherl, and Engleman, who are proud of the township’s advancements that the Fire, Police, and Road Departments have made, increasing the quality of services provided to residents and guests.

Students are served by both the Highland Local and Brunswick City School Districts, as well as several local private schools.

Hinckley offers a mixture of older rural home sites, farms, and newer single-family homes in developments, as well as parks like Hinckley Reservation, the jewel of the Emerald Necklace. While Hinckley Lake is currently closed for dam rehabilitation— set to reopen in 2026, the park offers numerous walking and hiking trails at the lake and nearby Whipp’s and Worden’s Ledges. A portion of the Buckeye Trail also winds through the reservation.

Hinckley Township maintains its small-town character through many annual community events, including downtown Community Trick-or-Treating and outdoor movie nights three times a year for families and neighbors to enjoy and reconnect. The Memorial Day Parade honors fallen

to mark a historic milestone this summer, as the community celebrates its 200th anniversary with a day-long Bicentennial Celebration on Saturday, July 19, which fittingly falls on the 200th day of the year!

This special event, sponsored by the Hinckley, Ohio Historical Society, will honor Hinckley's rich history and community spirit. Festivities will kick off at noon with a celebratory parade ending in the heart of downtown. The parade is expected to feature local organizations, civic groups, decorated floats, classic cars, and community leaders, offering a lively start to the day’s events.

heroes, and a 4th of July Parade celebrates our freedom. The infamous Buzzard Day celebration is a unique and beloved tradition that marks the return of the turkey vultures—locally known as buzzards—each spring. Held in March, the event commemorates the long-standing folklore that buzzards reliably return to Hinckley every year on the 15th, signaling the changing seasons. What began as a local curiosity has grown into a full-day community celebration featuring a hearty pancake and sausage breakfast, educational programs, nature hikes, craft vendors, and family-friendly activities.

With the combination of beautiful rolling hills, acres of parklands, rural home sites, and supportive community events and groups, those who live in Hinckley Township live by its motto: Small Town, Big Hearts.

Once in the town center, attendees will be treated to a bustling arts and crafts and vendor show, where local artisans and makers will showcase their work. Families and visitors can explore a wide array of handmade goods, specialty items, and unique finds—perfect for taking home a piece of Hinckley’s creative spirit.

Throughout the afternoon, guests can enjoy live entertainment on multiple stages. For those looking for fun and games, the celebration will offer family-friendly activities and interactive games suitable for all ages, making it an ideal outing for residents and visitors alike.

Food lovers will have no shortage of options, as a wide range of food trucks will be participating, offering everything from classic festival fare to gourmet bites. Adults can also unwind and raise a glass in the beer tent, which will provide a festive space to relax and mingle.

As the sun sets, a fireworks display will light up the sky in honor of 200 years of community, progress, and tradition.

LHISTORY, COMMUNITY, AND SMALL-TOWN CHARM

ocated 20 miles south of Cleveland in northern Medina County, Liverpool Township is a welcoming community of approximately 5,800 residents over nearly 26 square miles. The township is governed by a board of three Township Trustees and a Township Fiscal Officer. The Board decides township policy and is responsible for all expenditures of funds while also appointing all zoning and township employees. The Valley City Fire Department, the Medina County Sheriff’s Department, and the Buckeye Local School District serve the Township.

According to research and township residents, Liverpool Township was the first permanent settlement in Medina County. In 1816, it was officially named Liverpool Township after the city in England. In 1910, to avoid confusion with another Liverpool Township in East Liverpool, Ohio, the post

office address was changed to Valley City. While Liverpool Township is the area and government entity, Valley City is the mailing address.

Valley City is home to Medina County’s largest Industrial Park, comprised of over 900 acres. With the park’s proximity to major interstates, industries have established plants here to utilize the complex and just-in-time delivery possibilities. The park is privately owned with fully serviced sites (gas, electric, water, sewer, rail) ranging in size from two to 50 acres available for immediate building.

Valley City is an active community that is home to several annual events such as the Independence Day Parade and fireworks, the Street Fair, Christmas in the Valley, and the famous Frog Jump Festival. In 1964, Governor Jim Rhodes issued a proclamation officially naming Valley City, Ohio, the "Frog Jump Capital of Ohio". The Valley City Community Group is a group of volunteers dedicated to enhancing life in the area, and they organize most of the township events.

Nature abounds in Mill Stream Park, which was built in 2001. The 27-acre park sits on the banks of the Rocky River with a paved accessible trail path, three reservable pavilions, a concession stand, and is also the home to the annual Frog Jump Festival, along with other community events.

AERNI DENTAL WHEN EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE MATTER

Even though dental offices can be found on almost every corner, exceptional practices are diamonds in the rough. And yes, Aerni Dental is one of those extraordinary diamonds.

Practicing for over 30 years, Dr. William Aerni is a general dentist who also performs dental implants and orthodontics. He’s an out-of-theordinary type of dentist who takes the time to listen to his patients and is never in a hurry.

A graduate from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Aerni earned the distinguished Robert James Award on February 3rd, 1996, in recognition of his dedication to the pursuit of excellence in general dentistry and implantology. He was also honored with the Midwest Implant Institute Honored Fellow Award on October 19th, 2024, which is a lifetime achievement award recognizing doctors for their contributions to implant dentistry. To this day, his mission is to provide the Gold Standard of Care to each patient and to leave them feeling happier, healthier, and more confident. To keep himself and his team at the top of their game, they pursue countless hours of continuing education–far more than is required.

Dr. Aerni, as well as all of his staff made every effort to make me feel as comfortable as possible during the procedure of prepping for and installing a crown. I would also add that their attention to the details of creating and fitting the crown were impeccable. I appreciate the fact that Dr. Aerni has invested in and learned to use the most up-to-date technology available in this field.”

To achieve the Gold Standard of Care for each patient, Dr. Aerni designed a world-class facility with state-of-the-art technology so patients could have all their needs met in one location. He chose to build his practice overlooking the Metroparks because he wanted his patients to be able to experience the calming beauty of nature while receiving the best dental care available.

In addition to having his office in Strongsville, Dr. Aerni and is wife also raised their five children there. As a family man, he understands the challenges and pressures families face. It’s one of the reasons why he is passionate about Tip Edge orthodontics. He believes it’s the most comfortable, quickest, and cost effective way to achieve that beautiful smile for a lifetime.

While not all dental practices offer dental implants, it’s been a common procedure at Aerni Dental for over 29 years. Dr. Aerni has the experience you won’t find at most general dentist practices. He became a highly skilled implant surgeon by learning from the pioneers in the industry. Names you most likely never heard of, but dentists who are among the “who’s who” in dental implants.

Investing in the latest technology for better patient outcomes has always been what sets Aerni Dental apart from other dental practices. New technology to Aerni Dental is LANAP® Laser Surgery and X-Guide 3D Navigation. The LANAP Laser is used to treat gum disease, and regenerate bone and tissue. It is minimally invasive, destroys bacteria, and offers patients quicker recovery time than traditional surgery. The X-Guide® is the latest advanced dental implant technology that allows Dr. Aerni ultimate precision in implant placement. This means minimally invasive surgery with smaller incisions and faster recovery. Less than 1% of dentists offer this technology in the U.S.

I have been with Dr. Aerni since he had his first office in Strongsville, my family and I have NO reason to go anywhere else for ALL of our dental needs. His staff are some of the most kind and professional people I’ve experienced anywhere in any profession and are now more like family to us than anything else.”

When he’s not with patients, Dr. Aerni can be found teaching dental implant surgery to dentists at the Midwest Implant Institute, the very same place he began his own implantology studies. He also enjoys outdoor activities and making memories with his growing family.

This is my third visit to Dr. Aerni. Today, I had a decayed tooth removed and an implant put in where the tooth was removed. I can’t say enough good about him and his entire staff! My appointment lasted 2 hours, went amazingly smooth, and virtually painless. I’ve never had such a great experience let alone having a tooth pulled and an implant put in on the same day! The high tech equipment used, along with Dr. Aerni and his dental assistants’ professionalism, was second to none. Every time I leave this office, I am more amazed than my previous visits, especially how they took care of me, and took the time to explain everything to me before the treatment started. Additionally, Dr. Aerni and his staff are always friendly, which takes away the uneasiness of going to the dentist!!!” – Andrew Z.

On May 3, 2025, Brunswick City School District broke ground on our new high school. The new high school is part of the bond measure approved by voters in Spring 2023. This construction bond enabled us to leverage $42.6 million in state funds from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, significantly reducing costs to our taxpayers. The funding supports building a new high school, adding classrooms and parking lots at Kidder and Applewood, a new Maintenance Department, and a new Board of Education Office—investments that will serve generations of Brunswick students.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new high school marks an important milestone in our commitment to "Building Today, Inspiring Tomorrow." While this construction signifies an exciting new chapter, the true heart of our district remains the exceptional achievements happening every day in our classrooms.

The facility improvements complement our academic excellence, highlighted by BCSD earning an impressive 4.5-star overall rating on the Ohio Department of Education report card for the second consecutive year. This achievement places us in the top 30% of public school districts statewide, reflecting our relentless dedication to academic excellence.

This dedication to excellence extends to our literacy programs, with all six Brunswick elementary schools

recently receiving recognition through Governor DeWine's Science of Reading Recognition Program. This prestigious honor, awarded to just 47 of Ohio's 3,500+ public schools, acknowledges our district-wide implementation of evidencebased literacy instruction and our educators' commitment to research-based teaching practices.

Such strong foundations in elementary education have fostered remarkable achievements at all levels. This year, 103 Brunswick High School students earned recognition for superior Advanced Placement (AP) test scores, demonstrating academic rigor that begins in our earliest classrooms. Similarly, four Kidder Elementary students represented Ohio at a regional Math Hoops Tournament in Detroit, bringing home championship honors while showcasing both mathematical prowess and exemplary teamwork- skills cultivated throughout their educational journey.

Our commitment to excellence reaches beyond academics into the arts, where the Brunswick High School Marching Blue Devils delivered an outstanding season under firstyear director Samuel Portzer. Their production "Within" not only earned an OMEA State Superior Rating and Overall Grand Champion honors at two major competitions but also explored profound themes of personal struggle and human connection—embodying the holistic education Brunswick provides.

This spirit of excellence also carries into athletics, with junior point guard Trey Drexler receiving a nomination for Ohio's Mr. Basketball, becoming the first Medina County nominee since 2011, and becoming one of 45 boys basketball players in Medina County history to score 1,000 points. Additionally, our girls' swim team captured their first-ever district championship, while first-year diver Alex Burns broke the school record, illustrating how Brunswick nurtures both seasoned talent and emerging potential.

A powerful testament to our district's values shines through the extraordinary efforts of 31 high school students who raised $168,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Under the leadership of Abby Karim, Luke Wienhauer, and Emily Wollward, "Brunswick for a Brighter

Future" emerged as Northeast Ohio's top fundraising team. Their campaign carried profound personal significance as it honored their classmate Mick McGinnis, who served as Northeast Ohio's Honored Hero after successfully completing his leukemia treatment in August 2024. This initiative is another example of how our students embody the Journey of a Blue Devil, demonstrating critical thinking, empathy, adaptability, responsibility, and effective communication while creating meaningful community impact that extends far beyond our school walls. The Journey of a Blue Devil is a community-wide vision that defines the essential skills, mindsets, and aspirations we collectively hold for every student, guiding how we design learning experiences that prepare them for success in an ever-changing world.

As we break ground on our new high school, we celebrate not just the construction of a building, but the building of futures. At BCSD, we are truly building today while inspiring tomorrow— creating spaces where academic excellence, artistic expression, athletic achievement, and compassionate community service can flourish for generations to come. —Jason Niedermeyer, Superintendent, Brunswick City Schools

MCCC on the Move: Expanding Opportunity, Enriching Community

The Medina County Career Center (MCCC) continues to deliver on its mission: giving students—from high school to adult education—a competitive edge in both the workforce and higher education through premier career-technical programs and strong academics.

Earlier this year, MCCC took a major step forward with construction underway on a state-of-the-art fire tower for the Firefighter | EMT program. “This tower increases training opportunities for all levels of firefighters in a safer, more controlled environment,” says instructor Dave Yorko. Once completed—before the 2025–2026 school year— through Adult Education | OTC (Ohio Technical Center), the tower will also serve local fire departments, strengthening ties between MCCC and the community it serves.

Other programs are also seeing exciting upgrades. The Vision Care

program will unveil a modernized lab and dispensary, now located in a more visible and accessible part of the building, enhancing community services through the Bright Eyedeas Vision Clinic.

Meanwhile, MCCC’s Adult Education | OTC is undergoing a dynamic transformation. In August 2025, first responder and medical programs will move to the newly renovated South Campus, featuring state-of-the-art labs, expanded classrooms, and community-centered spaces. On the horizon: a daytime Law Enforcement Academy in early August 2025, as well as new LPN and Paramedic programs coming soon.

With each initiative, MCCC continues to deliver on its promise: providing premier, career-focused education while strengthening community ties. The future is bright— MCCC is on the move.

Why Chamber Membership Matters

If you’ve ever wondered what a chamber of commerce really does, let me tell you — around here, it’s all about connection, support, and helping our business community thrive.

At the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance, we believe in doing business together. We bring people together through events, programs, and networking opportunities that make it easier to grow your business and your relationships — because let’s face it, no one wants to go it alone.

One of our biggest highlights each year is Business at the Barn at Mapleside Farms, presented by MDG Flooring/Kiba Studios. It’s the largest business-to-business showcase in the county, and last year, we welcomed over 200 attendees! We wrap up the day by opening it to the public, giving everyone a chance to explore and connect with the awesome businesses that call our area home.

But that’s just the beginning. We also host a can’t-miss annual golf outing at our local courses, complete with fun

themes like the '80s, Superheroes, and this year’s “Around the World in 18 Holes.” It's networking in the sunshine — with plenty of laughs along the way. And every fall, we throw our annual clambake at Bunker Hill Golf Course. It’s a fantastic event that brings together both our business members and the community for food, fun, and conversation.

This year, we proudly launched our Business Builders Program — a program that empowers local business owners to overcome challenges and achieve lasting growth by fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment. This six-month program meets three times a month, where participants dive into everything from marketing to policy and procedures, with chamber-member experts leading the way. It’s hands-on, practical, and built to help entrepreneurs grow with confidence.

And speaking of growth, our Connections Networking Groups are where the 'connecting' really happens. We have four groups that meet regularly in Brunswick and Valley City, and they’ve become the place for building relationships, swapping referrals, and supporting each other both professionally and personally. It’s collaboration at its best — and it’s what makes our chamber feel more like a community than just an organization.

So, why join the chamber? Because it works. Because the connections are real. And because when businesses come together, everyone wins. Whether you're a brand-new startup, a family-owned favorite, a corporate business, or a growing company ready to give back — there’s a place for you here, and we’d love to welcome you to the chamber family.

The Heart OF OUR COMMUNITY

At the heart of every thriving community is a strong and vibrant library—and here in Brunswick, we’re proud to say that ours fits the bill. We are the center of activity, connection, and heartfelt service in the community, and every year we keep surprising our patrons with new and innovative offerings.

Over the course of a year, Brunswick Library hosts nearly 800 events, welcoming nearly 25,000 attendees through our doors. From engaging storytimes to educational workshops and creative programs for all ages, our team works tirelessly to create a space that is welcoming and meaningful for everyone. And it shows—whenever I’m out in the community, people regularly stop me just to say how much they love their library.

One of our most cherished offerings is our robust storytime schedule. We host six to seven storytimes each week, and during our January–February session alone, we held 46 sessions that drew more than 1,000 children and caregivers. That’s not even counting our regular outreach visits to local daycares and schools. These storytimes spark joy, support early literacy, and create meaningful routines for families in our community.

Our Teen Librarian continues to be a friendly face and listening ear for young people, often reconnecting with former teen patrons who share how much the library meant to them during challenging years. Creating a safe, welcoming environment for teens is just one of the many ways we show up for Brunswick. Of course, the library is more than books and storytimes. Just last year, we processed 1,670 passport applications—and yes, word is getting around! One visitor from Texas made a

special point to apply here because, as he put it, “you’re the best in town.” We’ll take that!

We’re also expanding our adult programming and are working on offering a wider variety of events and resources. We’d love to hear from you - what kinds of events would you attend? Whether it's hands-on workshops, arts and crafts, wellness talks, or book discussions, we want to provide the programs you want to attend.

Our commitment to supporting adults goes beyond programming. We help with job searches, navigating government websites, resolving tech issues, and offering free internet access—no library card required. By helping bridge the digital divide, we’re ensuring everyone in our community has access to the tools they need to succeed.

We also provide free access to thousands of digital books, audiobooks, movies, and music through our eMedia collection and online resources such as Gale Legal Forms, Chilton car repair manuals, Learning Express Library, and Consumer Reports—tools that support everything from legal paperwork to exam prep to DIY projects.

For those in our community for whom English is a second language, our World Languages Collection, Citizenship Corner, and ESOL Discussion Group offer vital support. We also provide memory care kits and proudly serve as a dementia-friendly space, supporting caregivers and individuals living with memory loss.

I’ve had the honor of working with Medina County District Library since 2009, starting part-time at Buckeye Library, growing into teen services, programming, and eventually joining the Brunswick Library as Manager in 2020, right in the heart of the pandemic. Every day, I’m grateful to work alongside such a passionate, dedicated team—people who truly care about our community and the individuals we serve.

From attending school literacy nights to assisting adults with printing or copying needs to simply helping someone find their next great read, our team is here for you. We love what we do—and we love the people we do it for.

Stop by. Say hello. Attend an event. Tell us what you’d like to see more of.

The Brunswick Library is your library, and we can’t wait to see you here.

Dynamic Growth

Northern Medina County communities are undergoing dynamic growth, marked by the addition of new restaurants, the development of Market 42, construction of the new Brunswick High School and fire station, and a steady increase in new home construction.

The local housing market remains strong, driven by consistent home sales and a persistent shortage of inventory, an ongoing trend for nearly a decade. Homeowners are drawn to the area for its welcoming neighborhoods, strong sense of community, and renewed appreciation for connection that has grown in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Property values continue to rise, with many homes

Brunswick Dog Park

is a .75-acre off-leash area that provides a spacious and secure environment for dogs to play and interact. Acquired in the late 1980s, the property was accepted from the Cross Creek developer, contributing to the community's recreational offerings. The park is part of a larger 17-acre area, with convenient public access via Cross Creek Drive. Surrounded by natural open space and a creek, the park offers a scenic and peaceful setting for both pets and owners. This area provides an ideal place for dogs to roam freely, socialize, and explore the natural beauty of their surroundings.

receiving multiple offers. The Brunswick Area, including neighboring Brunswick Hills, Valley City, and Hinckley, offers a variety of architectural styles and price points, appealing to a broad range of prospective homeowners. Buyers are particularly attracted to the area's reputable schools, proactive community leadership, and diverse housing options.

To meet the needs of those seeking a low-maintenance lifestyle—or who are unable to find a residential home in the competitive market—new apartment communities are also being developed. Many residents choose to stay within Northern Medina County, with numerous local high school graduates returning to raise their families in the same community where they grew up.

If you're thinking of making a move, the experienced team at RE/MAX Omega is here to help. Call us at 330-225-2880, or stop by our office at 1321 Industrial Parkway to learn more about opportunities in the Brunswick Area and beyond.

Sit! Stay! Brunswick residents love their fourfooted friends and here are just a few -– shared by their owners who work and live in our pet-friendly city!

Personalized Care at Medina Family Pharmacy

& Compounding Lab

At Medina Family Pharmacy, personalized care is at the heart of everything pharmacist John Komara does. As an independent pharmacy owner, Komara is committed to providing services that larger, corporate pharmacies often overlook — especially compounding, the art and science of creating customized medications.

Compounding allows medications to be tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs, whether that means adjusting dosages for children, removing allergens, or creating specialized formulations not available through standard prescriptions. Using state-of-the-art equipment and following strict quality and safety standards, Komara ensures that each compounded medication enhances treatment effectiveness and patient care. With years of experience working closely with patients, Komara believes in taking the time to listen and develop solutions that truly fit each individual. His approach stands in contrast to a healthcare system that often prioritizes profits over people. At Medina Family Pharmacy, the focus remains on delivering personal attention, quality service, and customized treatments that help patients feel better and more cared for. Woven with Promise is a faithbased nonprofit clothing ministry dedicated to serving individuals and families in need with dignity, compassion, and love. At the heart of our mission is our boutique—a welcoming, store-like environment where guests can "shop" for gently used and new clothing, shoes, and accessories for every member of the family, all at no cost. Every detail of the boutique is intentionally curated to offer a dignified shopping experience that honors each person who walks through our doors. Our goal is not only to meet physical needs but also to weave hope into the lives of those we serve.   Beyond the boutique, we host seasonal outreach events to meet specific community needs. These include our prom and homecoming dress giveaways, backto-school new shoe giveaway, Halloween costume giveaway, and winter coat distribution. Each event is designed to bring hope, confidence, and care to those we serve, reflecting our mission to weave love and dignity into every interaction. Visit us online at wovenwithpromise.com to learn more.
