ire investigation officers on Thursday began sifting through the gutted remains of the luxury superyacht Lady D, which was engulfed by flames at Ao Po Grand Marina on Wednesday morning (Aug 7), blanketing the marina in a haze

and sending clouds of black smoke billowing into the sky. The 55-metre vessel was reported as on fire just after 8am, and was still smoldering the next morning. At its height flames reached metres off the deck as disaster officials had the yacht towed away from the marina for safety. The cost of the damage as of Wednesday remained unreported,

while even estimates of the value of the yacht, registered in the Cayman Islands in 2007 as owned by Hearts Investments Ltd, ranged wildly from £4million (about B149.74mn) to a staggering B240 million. Firefighters at the scene confirmed to The Phuket News on Wednesday morning that no persons were injured in the fire, but said they were unable

to bring the blaze under control. No other yachts in the marina were directly affected by the fire.
