Nina (She/Her) Nina owns a noodle shop in the tubes that happens to be Parker’s go to watering hole. But what Parker doesnt know is that Nina was once a revolutionary herself.

Police Officer Highly militarized and well equipped, the police of Peliopolis might as well be another gang among the many that inhabit the tubes. They are cybernetically enhanced and are a frequent thorn in the crew’s side. The Art of Peliopolis

Diego (He/him) A revolutionary to the bone, Diego has been in this fight for as long as he can remember. He is cool, calm, and collected, but if you try to hurt the people he cares about, that cool calm exterior quickly disappears.

The Train One of the necessities of living in an enclosed network of tunnels is transportation. The train network is the lifeblood of traveling large distances in Peliopolis. Seeing as Bong Joo Ho’s film Snowpiercer (2013) was a major influence on the overall visual style of Peliopolis, it seemed important to pay homage in some way. The challenge was to find something that fits within the retro-futuristic style of Peliopolis while still incorporating futuristic technologies such as maglev systems.

Gorris (He/Him) A union leader and revolutionary, Gorris was the first character I designed for Peliopolis. By establishing his design I was able to hone in on the visual language that I was able to use for the rest of the characters with influences spanning from medieval clothing to contemporary Asian fashion to 1930s United States. Sean (He/him)

Shoulder Bag

The scientist of the group, Sean is an astrophysicist and activist. One of the harder designs to nail down, I wanted to find something that was not the stereotypical lab coat and goggles. Scientists don’t spend all their time in the lab, so it was a matter of finding some sort of balance. What I ended up landing on was a sci-fi version of a sweatshirt and jeans outfit.

Parker (They/them) Parker was the first character I created for Peliopolis as part of a short story back in early 2020. On the surface, Parker is brash, sarcastic, and impulsive. But underneath that there are layers of doubt, anxiety, and vulnerability.

One of the first ideas I landed on for this world was the influence of Filipino culture, specifically Filipino martial arts and their focus on swords and knives. (Right)

Color Studies The most challenging and integral part of this project was establishing a color palette that would evoke the right mood for this world. Using the tube environment design as a testing ground, I tested what felt like a near-infinite amount of color palettes. I found quite alot of color palettes I enjoyed, but what it came down to was what served the story best?

The Creatures of

Peliopolis

Baldwin’s Salamander These large amphibians roam the massive plumbing network that keeps Peliopolis racing, growing to accommodate their surroundings. The city’s largest predator, they grow depending on the size of their environment. Most adults measure in at no more than two meters, some say they’ve seen ones as large as 10 meters. They’re notorious for clogging up the city’s plumbing and will eat about just about anything they can wrap their mouth around.

Muncher Creators of mischief and chaos, munchers are large rodents. They range from 40 to 70 cm and are frequently caught rummaging through people’s trash and chewing on wires.

DaVIS’S FALCON An expert hunter, Davis’s Falcon has adapted extremely well to the challenges of city life. They are often found making nests high up among the wires to keep their eggs out of reach of hungry munchers.
