IBA ADVOCATES FOR MEMBERS, FAMILY FARMS
Illinois Beef Association has been busy on a variety of fronts working on behalf of our members across the state.
Earlier this month, leaders from IBA participated in the 2025 Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show in San Antonio. While in Texas, the Illinois delegation participated in committee discussions and took part in member meetings, as well. IBA’s President and Vice President also participated in the annual NCBA Board of Directors meeting.
Policies addressed at this year’s NCBA meeting included: a push for advantageous policy in the U.S. Farm Bill, stronger work toward essential tax relief for cattle producers, meaningful relief from the reporting requirements of the Corporate Transparency Act, enhanced wildfire prevention, and policy resolutions directing more work to protect family farms from undue regulatory burdens.
Throughout the first quarter of this calendar year, IBA will have participated in nearly two dozen affiliate meetings or banquets. Leaders from the Board of Governors, and staff from the association office, are doing outreach with local cattlemen’s organizations to promote benefits, membership and opportunities for farmers and junior members to participate in a variety of industry programs.
This week the association is helping host the 2025 Illinois Beef Expo on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. A full schedule of events can be found online. IBA’s proud to present the Expo in conjunction
by Josh St. Peters
with the event’s Board of Directors. Activities at Expo include the Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale, the All-Breed Heifer Sale, the Expo Trade Show, the Junior Skill-A-Thon, the Junior Livestock Judging Contest, the IJBA meeting, banquets for Illinois’ state Hereford, Simmental, and Shorthorn Associations, as well as The Collection frozen genetics sale and the Junior Market & Heifer show.
State legislative work is in full swing in Springfield, too, with the General Assembly currently in session for 2025. Several bills have been introduced that would impact animal agriculture, and IBA’s team of lobbyists are busy working the halls of the Capitol to address member needs and concerns.
IBA’s Executive Vice President met with Governor Pritzker last week, along with the executives from IL Corn, Illinois Soybean and Illinois Pork, to address legislative priorities for the session and talk about profitability issues critical to Illinois’ family farms. Our 2025 membership campaign is in full swing, with a number of great member benefits for producers, juniors and agribusiness members. If you haven’t renewed your IBA membership for the year, please make sure to get in touch with the office staff and get it processed soon; IBA’s policy is to drop unpaid memberships at the end of the quarter if we haven’t heard from you about renewal.
Thanks for your continued support of IBA and the state’s cattle industry!
