Like building things and technology in action? In ABE, you’ll design solutions to challenges in agricultural, food, energy, and environmental systems. And you’ll get plenty of hands-on experience along the way. Build robots, design water-cleaning systems, help with disaster relief, and so much more. Does improving the world through business, finance, economics, or policy get your mental wheels turning? In ACE, you’ll join faculty tackling big challenges related to sustainability, agriculture, international trade, and more.

ANIMAL SCIENCES (ANSC)

If you’re like our students, you’ve been into animals—cats, dogs, elephants, pigs, chickens, cattle and more—for as long as you can remember. In ANSC, you’ll turn your passion and our hands-on curriculum into a meaningful career in veterinary medicine, animal nutrition, farm management, or conservation, while helping animals live their best lives.

New and Growing! COMPUTER SCIENCE + ANIMAL SCIENCES

Love animals and computers? Work with sensor technology, large data sets, and more, all to improve the health and well-being of production animals and pets. CS + ANSC graduates will thrive in today’s digitally driven marketplace.

CROP SCIENCES (CPSC)

You know the world’s growing population needs to eat. Help make tomorrow’s crops more productive, nutritious, and sustainable with CPSC. You’ll help feed and fuel the future, whether you choose a career in plant breeding, biotechnology, production agriculture, or data analytics.

New Programs COMPUTER SCIENCE + CROP SCIENCES

Dive into the data. Agricultural devices, from phones to combines, generate a lot of data. Prepare for a career in digital agriculture or ag tech by gaining the skills to manage and make sense of big data in agriculture.

PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY

Speed up plant improvement. Feeding a growing population while using resources wisely and protecting the environment depends on innovations in plant science. Learn the skills and science to help feed and fuel the world.

When we got into our upper-level classes, we were able to connect with each other and the faculty even more to have a great learning environment.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY & MANAGEMENT FOR AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS (ETMAS)

ETMAS prepares you for a career managing and improving engineering technology for agriculture, food, construction, energy, and the environment. Choose one of four can’t-miss concentrations: Agricultural Production & Processing; Construction Management; Digital & Precision Agriculture; and Energy & the Environment.

FOOD SCIENCE & HUMAN NUTRITION (FSHN)

Into food, nutrition, or health? FSHN tailors your experience to your long-term goals. By concentration, FSHN sets you up for a variety of rewarding fields—pre-medicine, health and dietetics; basic and applied research; food product development and quality; and restaurant management. Get hands-on experiences with Illini Fuel, Bevier Café, food processing, food insecurity, researching food as medicine, and more.

METROPOLITAN FOOD & ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS (MFST)

Combine your passion for food and science with the skills to feed—and change—the world. MFST is an innovative, first-of-its-kind program. What’s a food system? It’s the whole path food travels to get to your plate. By creating a more sustainable path from seed to stomach, you’ll ensure affordable, nutritious food for all.

NATURAL RESOURCES & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES (NRES)

Want to be on the front lines of saving our planet? Focused on sustainability and scientific education, NRES puts you there. Learn how to protect fish and wildlife. Research improving how people interact with the environment. With your NRES degree, you’ll create a career where you make a profound impact every single day.
