1892 Ilkeston Town beat Tibshelf Colliery 4-0 in a home Derbyshire Senior League fixture. Straw, Baker, Hufton and Beardsley got the goals in a game described in the press as “played in splendid weather before a very good crowd”. It was only Ilkeston’s fifth league game of the season but it was the start of a seven game unbeaten run where they scored fifty goals and conceded only five including three consecutive games where they reached double figures.

1898 At the Manor Ground Ilkeston beat Leicester Fosse Reserves 5-0 in front of 3,000 fans in a Midland League fixture. Carnelly got a hat trick and Pearce and Dunne got the other goals. According to press reports the game was played in “windy and showery weather’ and Ilkeston kicked off attacking the “station goal”.

1910 Ilkeston United lost to Mansfield Mechanics 2-0 in a Notts and Derbyshire League fixture. This was Ilkeston’s first defeat of the season and in their first ten games they only dropped one point. However they managed to go through the whole without picking up a point.

1921 Ilkeston drew 0-0 in an FA Cup with Staveley Town they then went on to lose 1-0 in the replay three days later. Press reports suggest Staveley missed three open goals before Rice provided the wining goal for Ilkeston.

1927 Ilkeston United lost 2-1 at home to Boston. Taylor scored Ilkeston’s solitary goal and it was his eleventh of the season. Boston went two nil up before Taylor scored his consolation effort. The Robins were fourteenth in the Midland League but finished the season in bottom place.

1932 Ilkeston beat Chesterfield ‘A’ 5-2 in a home Derbyshire Senior League fixture. Wright scored two and Daykin, Robinson and Hunter got the other goals. Before the game Ilkeston signed the ex Mansfield keeper Arthur Staples. He was also a famous Nottinghamshire County cricketer who scored over 12,000 runs in 331 games.

1966 After a gap of 32 years without a game on Bonfire night Ilkeston beat Belper Town 3-2 in an away tie at Christchurch Meadow.

The Robins had gone 2-0 up but Belper to get back on level before they got a late winning goal. The

win took them up to seventh in the Midland League table.

1977 The Robins lost 3-1 at Mexborough Athletic with Kevin Bishop getting Ilkeston’s goal.

Bishop was an 18 year old signed from Monty Hind Boys Club and Manager Derek Chamberlain described Bishop as a player who “saw as a regular player but not this season”. Bishop made two more appearances and then did not play again.

1983 Ilkeston drew 1-1 at home with local rivals Eastwood Town. Lloyd Richards got Ilkeston’s goal.

Eastwood included Ex and future Robins Shaw, Eaton, Collier, Fletcher and Buxton in their squad. Manager Tony Cuthbert said in the Football Post that Ilkeston had “the better chances”.

1988 Ilkeston travelled to Hucknall Town and won 2-1 with goals from Smith and Wiggins. Ilkeston went on to finish seventh in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division.

1994 Ilkeston drew 1-1 at the New Manor Ground against

Stourbridge. Mark Harbottle got the Robins goal in this Southern League fixture.

2005 Ilkeston travelled to Gateshead and acme back south with a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Chris Adam two and Paul Smith. This Northern Premier League fixture was watched by 368 fans.
