STEPBYSTEP
This project offers a solution that meets the specific needs of individuals without upper limbs. It promotes autonomy and adaptability, providing a practical and enjoyable living experience.

It revolves around a specially converted Mercedes van designed to accommodate a person living alone or with a companion during vacations. After watching YouTube videos featuring individuals in similar circumstances, essential insights were gathered regarding their lifestyle and adaptation. This led to the development of the project’s core concept.
The design is therefore based on the following adaptations.
The height of bathroom sinks is very low, allowing one to sit on the floor and lean against the door for back support.

STEPBYSTEP
A shower with a bench provides a convenient seating area for assistance during cleaning and offers back support for added comfort.
To address the issue of door openings, a handle is installed at floor level for easy opening with the feet, while a longer handle is placed higher up to enable opening with the torso.
In the same way as the bathroom, the kitchen is adapted, with an equal height between the seats and the worktop.

The elements are concentrated on the floor through clever elevation. The idea of incorporating the traditional Japanese way of living with tatami mats emerged. The rooms are simplified, accentuating empty spaces. A play of different heights is integrated into the space. The stove is positioned at the same level as the living area, which transforms into the bedroom at night. Storage solutions are embedded in the floor, providing simple and tailored usability. The living area floor is covered with hemp fabric, reminiscent of tatami mats, to enhance comfort.

The first idea was to create a floor structure crafted using a tenon and mortise system, utilizing interlocking joints for enhanced stability and durability. This approach eliminates the reliance on excessive glue and screws, resulting in a cleaner and more sustainable construction method. By embracing this traditional woodworking technique, the floor not only achieves a beautiful finish but also supports efficient and eco-friendly assembly.

STEPBYSTEP After the jury, I concentrated on the overall design of the space, changing the material and working on a smoother definition, leaving the mortise and tenon system to one side.

CONVECTION
The phenomenon of convection can be described as an exchange of energy between two points. Warm air has a lower density and will therefore rise, while cold air with a higher density will sink. There is two main categories, natural and artificial convection.
The cooling mechanism of this building is natural and is thus created thanks to the phenomenon of convection. This place is separated in 3 spaces, the central space has a high ceiling. Next to it are 2 wings, which have a lower ceiling height.
For example we find convection around the globe, in the human body and in our homes with heaters and fans. In the following projects, the phenomenon will be used without artificial means and will create a natural ventilation to cool the space. This project is based on the building of the machine bridge - SIG of Geneva. This intervention aims to transform this place into a cooling space.

The windows and openings are clad with small bricks that create an acceleration of the air. Everything is designed to create a free circulation of air and to allow the phenomenon of convection to cool the space as well as possible. wood floor section detail

On the ground floor, on the left and right sides of the building, there is a net floor and a perforated metal sheet that creates a play and rest area. In the centre is a refreshment area where we can refresh and hydrate ourselves, also with a perforated sheet. On the first floor there is a picnic area on the left and a rest area on the right where we can read or rest. Each floor has openings that allow fresh air, cooled by the water, to enter the building and cool the space intensively. 1:1 not floor

The Ladywell Playtower is part of the St. Mary’s Conservation Area as mentioned before. It is therefore protected and has historical value. It used to be a public bathhouse in the summer with two pools and baths and in the ST MARY winter a wooden floor covered CHURCH HALLthe pool to accommodate a gathering space.

The project will bring together the C-C theme of culture, beauty, healing, but also refugees, their journey and inequalities. The goal of this exhibition is to create a space for gathering, sharing and learning. It will serve to heal the fear of the unknown, the fear of the migration crisis and to offer the possibility to artists of allNURcultures to SERY exhibit their art and show the beauty of their culture. This space will therefore host temporary exhibitions with new artists from Lewisham and surrounding areas every month.

FINAL DESIGN For the final design, the desire was to emphasize this comparison between the migratory crisis and the conditions of 18th century servants. This architecture therefore has two distinctive types of travel representing the two classes. Keeping with the idea of representing the beauty of each culture, the representation of a domestic’s journey adds a critical point to combat this lack of knowledge in an immersive way.

SITE The site of this project has a very particular importance. Located in South West London, in Lewisham, or more precisely in Ladywell. These parts of the city of London has a fascinating history but also a variety of cultures and origins of the population that

neighborhoods

rich.
The architecture is also very interesting. Currently Lewisham is undergoing a great renewal with the appearance of works and buildings for some years now. Many of the buildings in the Ladywell neighborhood are part of a conservation area. The project site is also part of this conservation area, specifically the St. Mary’s area. The history of Ladywell is very interesting and much of it is related to the concept of «Healing». The «Lady» refers to the Virgin Mary and «well» to the well that once existed and supplied the houses around. The great diversity of the population of Lewisham is an important point of this project. The graph shows us that this neighborhood has a higher percentage of people from other parts of the world. 32
