“Connect”
“Ideally, no one would have cancer” “We felt like this was a critical time to be able to do this differently than what other people had done.” – David Holmberg, President & CEO – Highmark Health
- Its iconic cupola and exquisite masonry detailing speak of the generations of patients and caregivers that have come and gone. The new comprehensive cancer center connects to this history by inviting the masonry articulation and sculptural terra cotta to be a participant in the life of the new atrium.
- The infusion center is the heart of patient care in the facility. Each infusion station is private and designed from the patient’s perspective. All patient stations are within visual range of the nurse station An “infusion lounge” is provided which allows patients to socialize in a safe, monitored light-filled space with comfortable seating and a connection through the urban context to the park.
Welcoming Hopeful Healing “Health is so important, and people take it for granted. Just being able to experience something this magnificent in the heart of the North Side is great to me.” – (summarized) Lydia Mitchell, breast cancer patient
“Our mission, and the mission of all of the people here is really to do the same thing. To connect the right patients to the right place for the right therapies at the right time and to use the best science to advance care and the likelihood of being able to successfully treat patients.” – (Paraphrased) Dr. Kenneth Cohen, Director of Strategic Planning and Integration – Johns Hopkins
