The new set of TELESCOOP Board of Directors and Audit and Inventory Committee Members were sworn into office last May 14, 2014 at the Manila Elks Club, Corinthian Plaza, Makati City.

Mr. Isaias “Ariel” P. Fermin, PLDT Executive Vice Presidentt and Head of Home Business was the Guest of Honor and Inducting Officer.

In his brief remarks, he underscored what he practices in PLDT which is ‘believing as one” as this can make things happen. He intimated that, “ TELESCOOP is all about taking care of each other and should move as one. Together, you are unbeatable.”

Inductees were Marcos R. De Leon, President and Chairperson; Hector M. Profeta, Vice Chairperson; Alexander C. Banag, Acting Treasurer; Teofilo E. Espadera, Director; Froilan M. Chairperson De Leon thanked Ariel Fermin for his support and acknowledged “Moving as One” as a challenge to TELESCOOP. A plaque of appreciation likewise was given to Mr. Fermin for gracing the event.

EdCom reports April-August 2014 Accomplishments Seven Pre-Membership Seminars (PMS)/Membership Seminar Updates (MS) were conducted with a total of 204 participants during the period, 190 of whom signed up as new members.

3 2014 TELESCOOP SOCIALAND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT TIE-UP WITH DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY Early Childhood Learning tie-up program lauded

De La Salle University Early Childhood Learning Center, Manila Main Campus as the major recipient of TELESCOOP’s Social and Community Development Project, has helped 57 indigent scholars, with ages ranging from 5-7 years old.

Ms. Dena Culaba, the Learning Center’s Coordinator also thanked TELESCOOP for supporting their advocacy which was initiated by former DLSU President Bro. Andrew Gonzales.

Parents and guardians of scholars of the program are all praises to TELESCOOP for sponsoring their children’s education.

“We are very fortunate to have TELESCOOP as a major partner in providing a high quality pre-school and kindergarten program to indigent children. Through this, we hope to give them a strong foundation to help them realize their dreams to pursue their education,” Caluba said.

Mr. Sam Kabiling, with no ample means to finance his child’s studies, is among the parents from an indigent community who is very thankful to TELESCOOP. “Nagpapasalamat kami sa TELESCOOP at La Salle sa kanilang malaking tulong upang makapag-aral ang aking anak na si Kate Leigh Anne. Kung wala itong scholarship, hindi matutupad ang aking pangarap na makapag-aral ang aking anak,” Kabiling said.

As part of TELESCOOP’s involvement in community development and in accordance with Republic Act No. 9520, the tie-up covers a 100% subsidy for a whole year to cover Pre-Schooling Education Program for these scholars.

TELESCOOP employees, namely: Gilda G. Fernando, Gina P. Babista, Nannette V. Cabrera and Ma. Loraine B. Tatad attended the “First (1st) Cooperative Housing Summit” held last July 17, 2014 at Great Eastern Hotel, Quezon Boulevard, Quezon City.

The affair was spearheaded by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in association with members of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Committee on Housing Cooperatives (JMEC) composed of CDA, HUDCC, PAG-IBIG, SSS, SHFC, HGC, HLURB, NHA, DENR, DBP, LANDBANK, PCCI, NATCCO, FPSDC which are involved in the housing sector, more particularly on socialized housing.

The problems on socialized housing and proposed corrective measures were presented and discussed for appropriate adoption by concerned government agencies and to encourage the involvement of the Cooperatives in this endevour.

Chairperson’s Corner As part of our information drive, we are happy to inform our members and stakeholders about the developments and status of the first seven (7) months of operations of TELESCOOP.

We are financially stable and still growing based on the following data lifted from the unaudited TELESCOOP Financial Statements for the seven (7) months period ending July 31, 2014: • Our Assets have increased by eight percent (8%) from Php 1,717,059,800 in July, 2013 to Php 1,862,144,098 in July, 2014.

• The number of our patronizing members has likewise substantially increased to 3,481 contributing to the generation of a Gross Income of Php 126,486,337.

We are appealing to our non-patronizing members numbering 1,616 to practice the spirit of “cooperativism” and get involved with TELESCOOP by promptly and continuously patronizing its growing product lines and services.

Always prioritizing the welfare of our members and implementing the initiatives finalized during our Officers and Staff Plan-

ning last June 13-14, 2014, we have launched the following new TELESCOOP products and services: 1. Emergency Calamity and Multi-Purpose (ECM) Loan – Php 30,000.00 2. Travel Loan – Maximum of Php 1 Million.

In compliance with the mandate of RA 9520 through the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and our very own Amended TELESCOOP By-Laws, we are implementing a program requiring our members to document their subscription for the Minimum Share Capital Subscription of 2,000 Common Shares per member or the equivalent amount of Php 20,000.00 by accomplishing and submitting to TELESCOOP the supporting “Share Capital Subscription Undertaking and Authority to Deduct”. All active members as of December 31, 2013 will be issued one (1) Share Capital Certificate for their individual accumulated paid-up share capital as of December 31, 2013 whether the amount is more than Php 20,000.00 or less than Php 20,000.00. Succeeding certificate will be issued to each member everytime they contributed P20,000 additional share capital contribution/investment.

DIRECTOR’S PROFILE Silverio “Jojo” S. Ibay, Jr. Our new Director Silverio “Jojo” S. Ibay is currently the Head of PLDT’s Spend Management Accounting Center. He is also the incumbent President of the PLDT Managers’ Club, Inc. and a Board Member at Tahanan Mutual Building and Loan Association. Prior to his employment in PLDT, Jojo was the Head of Accounting of Digital Telecommunications Phils Inc. and was a Senior Auditor at SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. from 1993 to 1995. Jojo obtained his Bachelor of Science in Commerce Degree, major in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude from University of Santo Tomas.

6 TELESCOOP launches New Product: Travel Loan TELESCOOP recently launched Travel Loan, dubbed as “Fly High with TELESCOOP.”

Director Froilan M. Bautista, who spearheaded the program, said “A member simply has to fill up, sign and send a Travel Information Sheet to TELESCOOP. Once approved, a quotation will be sent to the member for confirmation. “

Members may also send quotation from their preferred Travel Agency.

However, if availed through TELESCOOP’s accredited travel agency and payable in three (3) months and below, loan will be on zero interest basis.

Leon, in his Opening Remarks, highlighted the value and importance of the Planning Workshop for 2014 and 2015. He also emphasized his experience where there are individuals who are good in planning but poor in execution.

“As part of the learning process and planning workshop, I will be monitoring the success of the implementation aspect, “ Chairperson De Leon said.

On the other hand, Vice Chairperson Hector M. Profeta, presented

a historical summary of comparative sales data for the last five years to highlight the milestone achievements and set the tone for future challenges of TELESCOOP.

Each work unit, composed of employees and their assigned Oversight Director, came up with their presentation highlighting their current unit’s responsibility. A deliberation was actively made and emphasis were given to areas for improvement aimed at achieving further operational efficiency and effectiveness.
