Fusion of Old and New Marks the 13th TELESCOOP Annual Representative Assembly

TELESCOOP held its 13th Annual Representative Assembly last February 18, 2017 at the Le’ Pavillon in a totally different atmosphere compared to the previous assemblies. The 908 Representatives from Metro Manila and Provincial areas from PLDT Inc., PLDT Subsidiaries and Affiliates as well as from the Non-Payroll Group, had a glimpse of its humble beginnings in 1976 and with all its plans towards its golden year.

In his message, TELESCOOP Chairperson Marcos R. De Leon echoed and stressed TELESCOOP’s Mission Statement which states: ”We commit ourselves to provide financial empowerment to TELESCOOP stakeholders”. As we move closer to our “golden year” of existence, we find it compelling to focus on raising the living standards of our members and their families through prudent and sound personal

financial management coupled with creating awareness, developing competence and stimulating their preference towards entrepreneurial or business endeavors.

He also said that it would be gratifying for the Officership once members and their families become successful in their chosen business activity.

TELESCOOP Pays Tribute to Cooperators, Founding Directors and Founding Members

The presence of surviving Cooperators, Founding Directors and Founding Members, when TELESCOOP was formed and became operational in 1976, was acknowledged during the 13th Annual Representative Assembly held on February 18, 2017 at Le’ Pavillon.

They were given a Plaque of Recognition for their dedicated service during their term of office. Vice Chairperson Hector M. Profeta presented to the Assembly the TELESCOOP Founding Directors and Founding Officers namely: Renato C. Kalalang, Romeo C. Ranjo, Atty. Manuel P. Sanchez, and Ildefonso L. Abasolo, Jr.; and Founding Members and former Directors Francisco D. Caballero, Jr. and Salvador C. Bautista.

The TELESCOOP Mobile App is available for free download to member mobile devices through App Store for iOS and Play Store for Android.

Ano ang magandang nagawa ng TELESCOOP sa mga Miyembro?

Ako si Gerardo Dumlao, isang Senior Telecom Technician na nakatalaga sa Malate Customer Service Operations Zone.

Ako ay member ng TELESCOOP siguro mga 27 years na. Noong ako ay naging miyembro, ang hiniram ko sa TELESCOOP ay inilaan ko para sa pag-aaral ng mga anak ko hanggang sa makatapos ang bawat isa sa kanila at hanggang ngayon din naman na nagnenegosyo na itong isang anak ko. Iyong panganay kong anak, kapag kinakapos siya ng puhunan sa kanyang negosyo, nagsasabi siya sa akin na i-loan ko siya sa TELESCOOP. So nakiusap ako ng short term loan lang para madaling mabayaran para kung may pangangailangan ulit ay madaling makahiram ulit. Noong nagsimula ang negosyo ng anak ko, tinatanong ko siya na baka ika ko mamaya sa tubo lang mapupunta yung kinikita niya eh hindi naman daw kahit papaano malaking tulong ng TELESCOOP na nagpapahiram sa amin na pangdagdag sa puhunan na abotkaya sa aming kakayahan. Sa ganoon pa man, ang kanyang negosyo ay kahit paano

ay kumikita.

Doon nakakakuha siya ng pangangailangan niya sa pang araw-araw.

The special recognition was also given to coincide with the celebration of TELESCOOP’s 40th year of existence. The awardees reminisced the purpose and birth pains of TELESCOOP and shared words of wisdom during their respective messages to the Representative Assembly.

Ang ginawa ko po isang araw when they were already taken as regular meron akong papers to terminate them at sinabi ko mali yung sinabi ninyo sa akin noong una kasi sinabi ninyo you selected PLDT because of the high salary sa ngayon kulang na kulang na pala kaya

ko po ang kaunaunahang Treasurer ng TELESCOOP. If I remember right, our first payroll deduction was P15,000.00 and just about thirty members nag-umpisa. Isa ako sa nag-conceptualize ng TELESCOOP and the other one is the late Tenny Pastrana. Ang unang purchase order natin ay sa isang grocery which was managed by my sister dun sa España –Lou Rose ang una nating supplier ng TELESCOOP. Isang grocery muna because at that time puro utang lang at puro pahiram lang. So maraming nagdedemand na meron dapat na marketing, product etc. I was the one who also negotiated na rin na magkaroon tayo ng tie-up with Shoemart. Sa una nating negotiation noon I negotiated for about P500,000.00 muna at isang payday lang naubos yun. So the following month pa increase na ng pa-increase hanggang millions na ang ating supplier. Yun ang umpisa at least palaki na ng palaki. Appliance etc. at nagpapalitan kami ng posisyon. One time si Mr Kalalang naging Chairman din

Isa ako dun sa mga unang naniniwala sa pagtatayo ng kooperatiba sa PLDT. In fact, I was one of those who subscribed the capitalization of the cooperative. Then yung isa na nangunguna dito sa kooperatiba, who was very closed to me, si Sonny Profeta, the brother of Hector, invited me to join the cooperative. I first served in the Audit and Inventory Committee then after two terms I was elevated to the Board of Directors and until I served when I opted

to retire from PLDT in 1995. So masasabi ko lang I like to congratulate the members of the Board, all the officers for a job well done. In fact, this is an organization that became already part of my life that’s why I always tried my best every time there is an activity I tried to attend because it’s part of reminiscing the past and the cooperative in PLDT, especially TELESCOOP where we were all involved. It is a very laudable project put up by the people of those time in middle of 1970. Congratulations members of the Board for a job well done! So lahat po tayo if we can invite all employees of PLDT to become members, do so. Let’s look for other businesses we can bring into the cooperative. Maraming salamat!

agandang umaga po ako po si Kiko Caballero. Ako po ay naging President din ng TELESCOOP, Millennium President 2002 bago ako mag retire. I share the same feeling ng akin mga kasama dito pero gusto kong ipaalam sa inyo na ang TELESCOOP ay nabuo dahil sa mga PECCI Officers.

Isang araw po nagkakapihan lang ang mga Officers ng PECCI, kami rin yun. Ano kaya bakit di tayo magtayo ng kooperatiba pa para magampanan natin ang mga pangangailangan ng mga members? Sa kapihan lang ay nakabuo ng isang idea na makipag-usap sa CDA at dun po ay nabuo ang isang TELESCOOP. Through the officership of PECCI at ako po ay nalungkot nang malaman ko na yung nanay ng TELESCOOP ay inihabla yung anak.

Sa isang hindi pagkakaintindihan lang sa isang kaso na kung sinangguni lang nila ang mga elders na ito ay nakita nila ang tunay na dahilan kung bakit nabili ang lote na yan sa kapakanan ng ating members.

Yun pong kinita niyan sa mga nag-rent hati po ang sharing kaya po maganda ang samahan noon at ang sharing. Hindi po dapat masira ang relationship ng PECCI at TELESCOOP sapagkat iisa po yan.

Sino ba ang members ng PECCI, sino ang members ng TELESCOOP? PLDT employees kaya ang mga role na ginawa ng PECCI at TELESCOOP sa larangan ng cooperative movement ay makikita nyo sa report, kitang-kita ang report sa social media. Talagang sikat na sikat ang

PLDT Cooperatives at noong kami po ay nagrerepresenta sa higher echelon ng cooperative movement, sa mga unions, sa mga federations ang dinadala po namin ay PLDT cooperatives. Wala pong credit, wala pong PECCI. PLDT sapagkat iisa lang po ang PLDT cooperatives kaya hindi po dapat masira ang samahan na yan. At yung pong kaso na yan ay dapat madaliin at hindi na gumastos ng malaki. Sa mga kaso po parehong talunan yan. Hindi po yung hinabla at naghabla, parehong nagbabayad yan. Sayang lang ang pera! Kaya ang aming request ay huwag ng lumala ito at panatiliing maganda ang samahan ng PLDT cooperatives. At gusto po i-register din yung ating obserbasyon, nung kanina na obserbahan ko na napaka disiplina ng members. Talagang malaki ang pinagbago.

Palakpakan natin ang mga members. At sa mga officership po eto ay nagagawa lang ng isang successful governing body dahil

6 Which do you prefer for you and your family, business or livelihood program and your place of preference? Why? Business because it is an opportunity for a person to grow his money independently, thus giving a better life for his family. It also helps a person’s critical thinking, a very important life skill, since business requires a mind that can respond, flexibility to problems and challenges and a mind that is both inventive and innovative.

I prefer it to be established within Metro Manila.

Business because I will have full control, accountability and responsibility of all activities, as well as higher yield of investment. Also, starting or having your own business will ensure new challenges and experiences that will develop and enhance our skills. I would have it based somewhere in Aguirre, BF Homes or a similar commercial area.

I would say, business would be more beneficial for my family as it would exercise our strengths and challenge our weaknesses.

Though heard a hundred reasons not to go into it like it’s too risky, etc.. Still, it’s a good learning ground to improve mental, emotional and social competencies not just concentrating on profit. But as they say, “the grass is greener where you water it.” I prefer the rural areas where our country has rich natural resources, I believe that we could be an agribusiness hub in Asia.

From page 1 Chairperson De Leon highlighted also the results of the 2016 operations which generated significant and highly commendable results, as follows: • Increase of eight percent (8%) in Gross Sales from P 1,495,806,108 in 2015 to P 1,609,498,871 in 2016.

• Increase of four percent (4%) in Gross Income from P 218,581,401 in 2015 to P 227,771,249 in 2016.

• Increase of eleven percent (11%) in Net Surplus from P 71,457,769 in 2015 to P 79,224,228 in 2016.

• Increase of six percent (6%) in the combined Interest on Share Capital and Patronage Refund from P 52,214,262 in 2015 to P 55,456,960 in 2016.

Increase of eleven percent (11%) in Assets from P 2,130,487,540 in 2015 to P 2,375,287,592 in 2016.

The Cooperators, Founding Directors and Founding Members present were honored and given due recognition for their valuable visualization and contributions now being enjoyed by TELESCOOP members.

Further to this, all resolutions and amendments to the Articles of Cooperation and By-Laws have been approved and ratified by the Representative Assembly.

Re-elected Board of Directors were Marcos R. De Leon, Hector M. Profeta, Alexander C. Banag and Froilan M. Bautista while elected as a new Board of Director was Roberto R. De Guzman.

Re-elected members of Audit Committee were Rodolfo E. Manzanares, Jr. and Noel A. Fulgencio while Jonathan R. Mallare was elected as a new member. Meanwhile, Reynold U. Sarte was re-elected as member of the Election Committee and Enrico S. Galang as a new member.
