The wreath and candles are full of symbolism. The wreath itself, which is made of various evergreens, signi es con nuous life. The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolises the everlas ng life people nd in Jesus. The four candles on the wreath also have special symbolism:

A Christmas Bardip On Tuesday a ernoon students from Infant Jesus School and Santa Clara premiered their digital book, “A Christmas Bardip” to members of the Noongar Elders Commi ee, CEWA guests and their parents. The book was the result of a very unique and exci ng collabora on between Infant Jesus School and Santa Clara School and brings an Aboriginal perspec ve into the classroom through Noongar language and cultural knowledge. This very dis nc ve resource is now available for schools across CEWA to use in their classrooms. The Advent Wreath is a circle of evergreen leaves with four candles, three purple and one pink. A ft

fi

h candle may also be placed in the centre of the wreath. This is a white candle, the Christ candle, lit on Christmas Eve.

• The rst candle which is a purple symbolises hope and is called the ‘Prophets Candle’. The prophets of the Old Testament, especially Isaiah, waited in hope for the Messiah's arrival. • The second candle which is purple represents faith and is called ‘Bethlehem’s Candle.’. Micah had foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, which is also the birthplace of King David. • The third candle which is pink symbolise joy and is called the ‘Shepherds Candle’. To the shepherd’s great joy, the angels announced that Jesus also came for humble and unimportant people like them. In liturgy, the colour rose signi es joy. The third Sunday of Advent is Gaude e Sunday and reminds people of the joy that the world experienced at the birth of Jesus, as well as the joy that people have reached the midpoint of Advent. Gaude e Sunday calls people to rejoice in hope. • The fourth candle which is purple represents peace and is called the ‘Angel’s Candle’. The angels announced that Jesus came to bring peace. Jesus came to bring people closer to God and to each other again. • The (op onal) h candle represents light and purity and is called ‘Christ’s Candle.’ it is placed in middle and is lit on Christmas Day.

Orienta on Day This year the students and their families will learn who their 2022 teacher next Wednesday 8 December. On that day, the children will "move up" to their new classroom and spend around an hour with their new teacher. This will give them an opportunity to realise that they know many other students and gain a sense of the feel of the classroom.

On Wednesday 8 December we will celebrate the end of the school year with a Thanksgiving Mass at Infant Jesus Church. The Mass will commence at 9.00am and all students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 will be a ending. This is a formal gathering of the school community where we give thanks for all that has taken place in 2021 and wish our Year 6 students and sta who are leaving all the best for the future.

As men oned previously, many factors are taken into considera on when crea ng class lists. It is a huge task and takes teachers and sta a signi cant amount of thought, me and care.

We are looking forward to parents joining us for this Eucharis c Celebra on.

Fortunately, our Infant Jesus School sta have great exper se, and parents are assured that no ma er who their child's teacher may be - they will be focused on ensuring the best possible outcomes for each and every child in their care.

Farewells The end of a school year is also a me where we have to say a few goodbyes to members of our community. I would like to acknowledge the following sta who will be leaving us at the end of 2021:

Our sta also work and plan together across year levels and our children have numerous opportuni es to work with

Mrs Jenny Houwen (11 years) Mrs Raj Kaur (3 years) Mrs Tina Fazari (Leave for 2022) Thank you for all that you have contributed towards the development of this school and for your

other children in their year level. Each school year is a new start for everyone and a chance to begin afresh. Thank you for assis ng in this me of transi on by showing your child you trust in their ability to move towards 2022 posi vely and for helping them to focus on all the wonderful opportuni es change o ers as this builds resiliency.

2022 Enrolments As the school undertakes the process of prepara on for the upcoming school year, it is important that we are aware of possible movements, both in and out of the school community. The end of any school year is a busy me for many families insofar as transfers due to work or other personal circumstances. We have a number of families on our wai ng list, so if you do know you won’t be returning in 2022, please write to the school so as to allow other families the opportunity to gain a posi on at Infant Jesus School. This allows the school to plan for next year’s classes and new enrolments.

One of the main reasons why we changed the school uniform is because we had so many varia ons of the boys’ shorts as parents were buying these from di erent places e.g. K-Mart, Big W etc. The only place parents are able to purchase the Infant Jesus School Uniform is at One World Uniforms in North Perth. Please ensure that your child has the correct uniform for the start of 2022 school year.

School Fees As we are in Term Four and drawing closer to the end of the year we ask that all families please ensure fees are nalised as per the your payment plan. Opportuni es are con nuously provided to all families who are experiencing di cul es to discuss their situa on with me. Some families have acted on this, and I thank them for their sincerity and honesty. If you are experiencing legi mate di cul es in rela on to your school fees, please contact Mrs Irene Baginski at the

From my readings…..

Encourage kids to occupy themselves Parenting Ideas – Michael Grose During the holidays families may have many plans; however, there may also be me where children have the opportunity to occupy themselves. A child’s ability to ll in their own me and cope with moments of boredom are important independence skills to develop. Children have less prac se at keeping themselves occupied than those of past genera ons. You have many jobs as a parent, but constantly entertaining your child, should not be one of them. These ideas will help:

Invite them to keep themselves busy

ffi

When your child tells you that he or she is bored they are bringing you a problem to solve. Boredom is your child’s problem, not yours. If this happens, encourage your child to keep themselves busy by asking ques ons such as “How can you keep yourself amused?”

If your child is stuck for ideas make a list of ac vi es that they can refer to when they’re bored. Include a variety of ac vi es such as crea ve tasks, performance tasks, cra s, sports, indoor and outdoor games, music ac vi es, reading and helping. Place the list in a convenient place with easy access and visibility.

Make a boredom buster jar Cut up a list of boredom bus ng ac vi es and place them in a jar. When your child is stuck for an idea to keep him or herself amused invite them to select an ac vity from the boredom buster jar. Ask your child to add enjoyable ac vi es to the jar over me.

Encourage plenty of green-time Today’s children spend more me in front of screens, and less me outdoors than those of previous genera ons. Not only is me spent in natural environments refreshing, relaxing and

Help nd their interests If your child struggles to keep him or herself occupied, consider helping them iden fy a hobby or interest that they enjoy. O en nding that one ac vity a child loves or excels in makes a huge di erence to their selfesteem and wellbeing, and can become the driver for future career choice.

Build in downtime A trait common among healthy families is the propensity for everyone to enjoy spending down me or unstructured me together. It’s during down me that parents and children share ac vi es together, which promotes be er rela onships and helps children’s informal learning. Most children when given unstructured me will rise to the occasion (even a er some complaining) and will nd interes ng things to do. By encouraging them to nd something “to do”, other than lling their me with screen-based ac vi es, you are promo ng a fabulous life-skill in your kids.

Prayer The liturgical year begins with Advent, a word derived from La n that means "coming." During Advent we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, and we look forward to Christ's second coming at the end of me. Blessed are you, O Lord our God, You sent your Son to be the Light of the world and to spread his light of love to all. As we light the candles of this wreath May its growing brightness remind us of the approaching nearness of your Son So that the day of His coming may nd us prepared and lled with joy. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Have a lovely week,

We Are Called Immaculate Concep on of Mary Next Wednesday, we celebrate The Solemnity of the Immaculate Concep on which is a Holy Day of Obliga on in the Catholic Church. Many Catholics believe this feast celebrates Jesus’ concep on through the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary. However, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Concep on celebrates Mary’s concep on in the womb of Saint Anne without the stain of original sin.

ff

ti

ti

ti

ti

ti

ti

ti

ti

ti

ff

Jesus’ concep on is celebrated on the Feast of the Annuncia on on March 25, nine months before Christmas.

In order to become the mother of Christ she was conceived free from the burden of original sin. Saints Joachim and Anne prayed for a child for a very long me. Just when they had begun to lose hope, Saint Anne became pregnant with Mary. In order for Mary to become the mother of Christ, her soul never su ered the e ects of original sin. On the Cross, before He died, Jesus gave Mary to us as our mother. She is the mother of God and our mother also. She takes care of us and loves us as the dearest, gentlest, and purest mother.

Past, Present and Future. Over Term 4 in HASS, the Year Ones have been learning about how toys have changed over me. The children shared their families’ toys from the past, they spoke about their current favourite toy and designed and made a toy of the future. On Monday a ernoon, our families were invited into the classroom for a toy exhibi on. The children loved sharing their work. We were lucky enough to have a car of the past on show…a 1964 Morris Mini which the children compared to cars of the present. Thank you so much to the parents and families for their involvement and support for this topic this term.

Year 6 Technology Talk On Tuesday, 29 November, the Year Six students had the privilege of listening to a presenta on from Mr Gordon Prokscha (Luca’s dad). The room was lled with excitement as he discussed many interes ng topics related to computers. He shared his knowledge about areas such as binary, networks, peripherals and more! Mr Prokscha started his presenta on by talking about was the language that computers use, made up of 1s and 0s. The ASCII table (American Standard Code for Informa on Interchange) is used to convert le ers and numbers into binary, which the computer can then understand. We used the ASCII table to write our names! A erwards, we learnt about ini alisms and acronyms associated with computers, and many peripheral devices we see in the world around us.
