From the Principal

Dear Parents Last week Infant Jesus School was privileged to hosted a very large mee0ng for Catholic Educa0on Western Australia. There were over 90 a[endees including the Execu0ve Director of Catholic Educa0on WA, Dr Debra Sayce, the CEWA Execu0ve Team, Principals and Leadership Teams from this area and beyond. This was a unique opportunity for Infant Jesus School to share with all the a[endees including the CEWA Execu0ve, Principals and Leadership Teams from many other primary and secondary schools the vision of the school. Throughout the day staff and students adapted easily and assisted in welcoming and sharing the school facili0es and learning spaces. The a[endees were impressed with the professionalism and generosity of the staff and the enthusiasm and knowledge of the students that they both observed and interacted with during the day. There were also some very excited Year 6 students who assisted with leading the prayer for this mee0ng. It was fantas0c to also listen to comments from the Year 6 students who proudly took many CEWA leaders on tour of the school. Feast Of The Assump0on
Sacrament of Eucharist
Feast of the AssumpRon
Next Monday, 15 August, we will celebrate the feast of the Assump0on of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a special Mass. This feast day celebrates Mary’s Assump0on into heaven and the Church has made this a Holy Day of Obliga0on. Mary loved God and always trusted in Him, doing all that God would want of her. Although she became the mother of Jesus, Mary was a simple woman who lived according to the customs and tradi0ons of her Jewish faith. On the Feast of the Assump0on we remember and celebrate that Mary was taken to heaven body and soul by God. This special privilege was given to her because of her sinless and exemplary life and total trust in God.

Infant Jesus Day

This year we celebrate Infant Jesus Day on Friday 26 August 2022. All the children, and families, very much look forward to this day as we recognise, honour and acknowledge the charisms, history, tradi0ons and heritage of our school. In 2022 we con0nue to be very grateful and apprecia0ve of our past and the all those who have contributed in so many ways to the Christ-centred and child-focused community that was established at Infant Jesus School and con0nues today and in the future. Our faith-filled and vibrant community is evident through all its members; the children, the staff and the parents. As a community we aspire to achieve our shared vision and work together to con0nually improve. Our mantra of #ExpectGreatThings is embedded in all we do and we are always endeavouring to develop as lifelong learners through a focus on Exceeding Expecta0ons. This year our Infant Jesus Day celebra0ons focus on the saints and charisms of our school. Both Dominican saints – St Dominic, St Catherine, St Thomas and St Rose and Carmelite saints – St Teresa of Avila, St Therese of Lisieux and St John of the Cross shared the gihs that God had given them to model the charisms and be the Good News for all. Today we con0nue to be inspired by the example of these saints and the way that they shared their many gihs. The Dominican saints are reflected very prominently in our school through our fac0ons. · St Dominic (Calaroga) through sharing Jesus’ message of Truth through his preaching and life · St Thomas (Aquina) through demonstra0ng great faith in God and was an example of the Good News for others. · St Catherine (Siena) through inspiring others with hope some0me during very difficult 0mes. · St Rose (Lima) through sharing God’s love with others, especially those who were ill. The Carmelite saints link to the Infant Jesus Parish and the name of our school. • St Teresa of Avila through sharing with others how to pray and care for others • St Therese of Lisieux through inspiring others with hope and gentleness • St John of the Cross through sharing the message of God’s love for all through prayer, poetry and service. Today and in the future, children, staff and parents con0nue share the charisms of the Dominican and Carmelite saints in our community. We are grateful for their example and are also inspired to con0nue to be the message of Jesus, as they did, through our prayer and by sharing God’s love, faith, hope and trust in serving others. We are looking forward to families joining us from 12.00pm for Infant Jesus Day on Friday 26 August 2022.

On Sunday 28 August 2022 Infant Jesus Parish celebrates the Anniversary of the Dedica0on of Infant Jesus Church. The celebra0on commences with Mass at 9.30am followed by a gala day. We are very grateful that Infant Jesus Church and the community con0nues to provide an invi0ng and reflec0ve space for our community of faith where we can pray, celebrate, support and connect with others.
First Eucharist
Later in the term the Year Four students will receive the Eucharist for the first 0me. This week parents a[ended a Parent Informa0on Evening and this weekend families will a[end a Commitment Mass. During the next few weeks, the prepara0on will con0nue with a visit to the year group from Fr Greg, a Parent and Child workshop, a retreat and reconcilia0on before the celebra0on on Saturday 10 September 2022. The Eucharist is a celebra0on that leads each person to live, act, hope and dream in the spirit of con0nuing the mission of Jesus in love and service to others. The word ‘Eucharist’ comes from the Greek word for ‘giving thanks’; it is an act of giving thanks to God. When people join in the celebra0on of the Mass they give thanks to God for all they have been given, especially the gih of Jesus. During the Mass, people remember the words and ac0ons of Jesus at the Last Supper.
Every 0me people go to mass, the gihs of bread and wine are transformed so that Jesus who gives himself for humanity becomes present. Through the bread and wine, Jesus himself gives life to transform his followers, so that they enter into communion with him and all his followers.

In the Eucharist, people draw on God’s power to transform the world. People pray that Jesus will help them to celebrate and live the Eucharist to transform the world into a place where people live as Jesus taught.

iShow, iExplain, iLearnt
At Infant Jesus our goal is to develop a community which fosters life-long learning and an aotude which promotes achievement of full poten0al in an environment embedded in our Gospel values. At Infant Jesus our Vision for Learning is based on our beliefs that: • Children are competent and bring a wealth of experiences and knowledge to the learning task. • Children are involved in making choices which supports their unique way of learning. • Children are engaged in meaningful and purposeful tasks which include ac0on and reflec0on. Later this term, on Monday 12 September 2022, we are introducing a new ini0a0ve for, iShow, iExplain, iLearnt, where children will lead and share their classroom learning with their parents. In 2022, with the introduc0on of the digital porqolio for Pre-Primary to Year 6 parents, have con0nually had opportuni0es to view and be involved in their child’s learning journey throughout the year. iShow, iExplain, iLearnt has been developed as another important aspect of sharing the learning, achievements and progress of the children with their parents through 0me in the classroom During each iShow, iExplain, iLearnt session the parents, children and the school to come together to support, share and celebrate each child’s learning. The aims of iShow, iExplain, iLearnt are: • To allow children to be confident, independent, responsible and accountable for their learning. • To help children develop a love of learning and begin to see themselves as life-long learners. • To help children build reflec0on and goal seong for their own learning. • For children to develop pride in their learning. • To encourage a wider range of child/parent communica0on.
