Holy Week 2022 During Holy Week, the nal week of Lent, the Church sets apart an en re week to recall the events of the last week of Jesus’ life – where he su ered, died and rose to new life a er three days. The week is Holy because it is considered to be set apart for God who is Holy. This special me began with Palm Sunday on the weekend, and concludes with Holy Saturday. Tradi onally, to re ect on this week in Jesus’ life we have gathered together each morning to remember and to pray as the children prepare prayer services around key events in Holy Week. We have re ected on Palm Sunday, Jesus teaching about The Temple, The Sermon on the Mount, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. This year, COVID-19 restric ons saw us unable to gather as a school community in person. Instead, each class has prepared a digital retelling of a key event. You and your family may like to watch this together, and re ect on Jesus’ love for us all.

As Jesus’ me on earth was coming to an end, he knew that he did not have much me le to be with his friends. He wanted his friends to learn a very important lesson in order to spread his teachings throughout the world. They needed to learn how to serve God, each other and the new followers of Jesus. During the Last Supper, Jesus celebrated his last meal with his Apostles. During the meal, Jesus performed the unusual act of washing the feet of his Apostles even though they objected and were shocked by his ac ons. Washing the feet of guests was a dirty job usually performed by the least important person in the home. Jesus showed the disciples that it was important to serve others. During this Holy Week, the Church celebrates Jesus as Saviour, by recalling the su ering, death and resurrec on of Jesus through the Sta ons of the Cross. The Sta ons of the Cross commemorate Jesus Christ's last day on Earth. They focus on speci c events of his last days, beginning with his condemna on. At each sta on, people recall and meditate on a speci c event from the last day of Jesus’ life. Prayers are said, then people move to the next sta on un l all are complete. The Sta ons of the Cross, as with most of Holy Week, are very re ec ve. They provide us me to think about Jesus’ love for us and his example. God has given us many gi s that we use each day to follow the example of Jesus through our words and ac ons. Last week, the Sta ons were displayed in the Piazza for students to re ect on and use in prayer. This year students from Year Six created a virtual Sta ons of the Cross for our school community to use in prayer. You can view this prayer video here: h ps://youtu.be/ccQHNoKHoco In a few days we celebrate Easter – the highlight of the Church’s year and the most important of all Chris an feasts. Everything that Jesus said and did is only given meaning by his Resurrec on. The ligh ng of the Easter candle in a dark church symbolises that Jesus is the light of the world. That light is passed from one person to the next. There is great joy at Easter because of the hope that Jesus has given people and the Good News that is alive through us today. Just as the woman found Jesus has risen and shared this good news with his followers we con nue to share the same Good News with others each day by being grateful, hope- lled and through our words and ac ons, following the example of Jesus.
