Parent-Teacher Interviews During Week 8 of this term parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child/ren’s teachers to discuss their progress so far this year.
Last Friday the Welcome Back Picnic was held on the School Oval. It was great to celebrate the first few weeks at school, meet other parents and welcome NEW families to the Infant Jesus School community. It was a very enjoyable night, even with the challenges of the weather. It was a fantasQc opportunity to share the ‘Good News’ regarding what the 2021 school year will bring for all in our Infant Jesus School community. We are very appreciaQve of all that was organised including food vans and a lolly stall. It was also wonderful to see the children enjoying the acQviQes. We extend a very special thankyou to the coordinators of this event - Mrs Jenny Allpike (nominated to conQnue as P&F Treasurer for 2021) and Mrs Vanessa Ga\ (nominated as P&F President for 2021) who very generously gave of their Qme to organise this event, not once but twice! To organise such an event once, takes considerable Qme and having to reorganise it requires much paQence, enthusiasm and a very generous spirit.

Catholic Learners This year we celebrate 50 years of Catholic EducaQon Western Australia and 200 years of Catholic EducaQon in Australia. As a school we also recognise and have embedded in all our acQons and interacQons that, at Infant Jesus School we are Catholic Learners. As staff at a Catholic school our faith journey is crucial to our work. We conQnually strive to enhance our faith knowledge and were fortunate to parQcipate in a day of Professional Development on Friday 26 February. On this day Sr Margaret Scharf’s presentaQon focused on our Catholic IdenQfy and how our Catholic spirituality permeates all aspects of our work. As we share our faith and understanding of being Catholic, we are strengthened as a Catholic community and our role as ChrisQan people. As Catholic Learners at Infant Jesus School we are a welcoming and reflecQve community coming together to live out our faith. We provide an authenQc Catholic EducaQon for all families and emphasise the development of each child as a unique human being. The family is the first and most important influence in the development of religious faith in the child. Parents who enrol children at our school are asking us to share with them the responsibility of bringing up their children as ChrisQans under the guidance of the teachings of the Catholic Church. The school supports parents in this important role. During their Qme at Infant Jesus School, we challenge children to find, through God, meaning and value in their lives and we form an integral part of a church community in which all generaQons live, worship and grow together. Each day we support children to: ✦ Develop a relaQonship with Jesus. ✦ Develop a synthesis of faith and culture and faith and life. ✦ ParQcipate in prayer and celebraQon of the Eucharist in community. ✦ Engage in their faith development in a conducive environment. ✦ Engage in Religious EducaQon Programs which support them to grow in understanding of their faith. ✦ Afain the beliefs, values, a\tudes, knowledge, skills and pracQces, which will enable them to achieve Christ’s vision of the human person. ✦ Share a posiQve relaQonship between the local parish and school community. ✦ Develop a commitment to social jusQce and acQve ChrisQan service.
Priorities and Initiatives 2021 The PrioriQes and IniQaQves for 2021 that were shared at the ACM last year have also been implemented to support children in various aspects of the curriculum and learning. Some informaQon regarding the prioriQes will be shared in various ways throughout the year. This week includes reflecQons of i-Relax, i-Succeed and i-Hour i-Relax
This iniQaQve has been implemented across the school with both students and staff benefi\ng from a few well implemented mindfulness acQviQes. With this iniQaQve we have observed some small gains in the ability of all children to self-regulate, concentrate, ‘de-stress’, engage in tasks and improve their social skills. Parents may also have noQced more relaxed children have an improved sleep. Each day children are learning to slow down and really noQce what they are doing. These very easy acQviQes may already have been shared at home to relax and engage family members.

i-Hour
Our teachers are always focused on catering for the needs of all children and providing them with the knowledge and skills to engage and succeed in all learning areas. For students the learning is very clearly explained by the teacher and educaQon assistants. Specific informaQon, including samples and explanaQons about the learning task, is provided so that students are able to complete the work and achieve their goals. To further assist all students to make greater achievements staff provide individual feedback to both challenge and assist children to succeed in all curriculum areas. This iniQaQve is focused on our Year 4, 5 and 6 students. From the beginning of the term they have been developing and applying the knowledge, understanding and skills to invesQgate, design, plan and create soluQons. They have been very creaQve, innovaQve and enterprising in developing codes to actually create products using many complex codes and a 3D printer. It has been fantasQc to see the students word in groups to idenQfy a need or improve a product. All the products will be on display, with their designers and creators, at the STEAM Fair at the end of Semester One. There are many possibiliQes for these products as they all assist in making the world a befer place.
Parent Teacher Interviews During Week 8 of this term (Monday 22 to Friday 26 March) parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child/ren’s teachers to discuss their progress so far this year. Parents are encouraged to play an acQve role in the educaQon of their children and these interviews are an ideal forum in which to help enrich the learning opportuniQes for student and to build partnerships between home and school. Parents and the broader community play a vital role in
supporQng successful learning outcomes for our children. Research tell us that the most meaningful partnerships are those where schools, parents, students and the community work together to focus on student learning. Parent and community engagement that is effecQvely focused on student learning can deliver powerful outcomes. As parents are aware, we have many means by which we keep you informed regarding the progress of children over the course of the year, including: ❖ Formal and informal interviews ❖ Reports on student performance/progress (in Term 2 and Term 4) ❖ Porjolio ❖ Seesaw work samples ❖ Parent informaQon evening at the beginning of the year ❖ Learning journeys ❖ Parent Teacher Interviews This year we will conQnue to use Parent Teacher Online (PTO), a web-based app booking system for Parent Teacher meeQngs. We know that it will save parents Qme and is quite easy to use. PTO has been available since Monday 8 March for parents to book appointments. Please refer to the lefer was sent out on Wednesday 3 March 2021 explaining in more detail how to access PTO. A computer will be available in the Library, during school hours, if you do not have internet access at home or elsewhere.
Year of St Joseph This year Pope Francis has proclaimed as the ‘Year of St Joseph’. In his lefer, ‘With A Father’s Heart’’ Pope Francis describes St Joseph as a father who is much loved and loving, tender, obedient, accepQng, creaQvely courageous, working and caring. We recognise the afributes of St Joseph and the very special role that he had in the Holy Family as the father of Jesus and the husband of Mary. As a school we will celebrate the Feast of St Joseph on Friday 19 March with a Whole School Mass. A Prayer to St Joseph You were recepQve to God working in your life. You kept Jesus and Mary in your care. You taught Jesus your trade and prayers. You said ‘Yes’ to God’s plan and spent your life serving others. May we be strengthened by your life of faithfulness and love and follow your example. Amen
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. TradiQonally, orange signifies social communicaQon and meaningful conversaQons. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. On Monday 22 March students may wear something orange to celebrate our cultural diversity and the theme of ‘Everyone Belongs.’
Best Wishes This year the i-Excel iniQaQve has provided some extra curricula opportuniQes to share our gins and talents in various curriculum areas. As a starQng point a small group of Year 5 and 6 students will parQcipate in a very challenging MathemaQcs compeQQon that requires them to work as a team to solve extremely complex mathemaQcal problems. This has required some addiQonal preparaQon and training, co-ordinated by Mr Silla and assisted by Miss Wong, to enable them to further develop their understanding of a range of extremely difficult mathemaQcal concepts. We wish them all the best for the compeQQon later this month.
Harmony Day In Australia, Harmony Day is celebrated on 21 March every year. It is a day to celebrate our culturally diverse society. In order for everyone to live peacefully and happily in Australia it is important that everyone feels equal. We can learn much from our differences as they make us unique and special. In WA Harmony Week 2021 is from celebrated from 15 – 21 March and encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate WA's wealth of cultural, religious, linguisQc and ethnic diversity.
Staffing We welcome Miss Chiara Lembo who has joined our staff in the role of EducaQon Assistant in the Kindergarten Blue. She joins the Kindergarten team– Mrs Tina Fazari and Mrs ChrisQne Padua, our Kindergarten teachers, and Mrs Nella Boogaard, Mrs Sue Bonomi, Mrs Anne Foley, Mrs Milly Cardile and Mrs Raj Kaur our EducaQon Assistants. We hope that Chiara finds her Qme in Kindy Blue very rewarding and enjoyable.
School and Class Communications Within the school there are various forms of communicaQon available to parents which include Seesaw, SEQTA messages and email. The Leadership Team, Admin and Class Teachers all use these important forms of communicaQon to assist in building and strengthening partnerships across the school. These communicaQon plajorms ensure that parents have the opQon to email or message staff at any Qme during the day. However, parents also need to be very aware that staff may not respond as they are focusing on teaching and learning and the children during school hours. Staff also have many class and school commitments and may take up to 24 hours to respond to emails or messages. If parents do have an inquiry or informaQon that is urgent, they need to contact the School Office.
School Uniform Since 2019 there has been many noQces in the school newslefer regarding the Infant Jesus School Uniform. The following informaQon is from Week 2, Term 1 2020 and is sQll current. ‘Parents are reminded that the Infant Jesus School uniform can only be purchased at One World Uniforms. Parents looking for alternaQve navy shorts from other shopping outlets or suppliers will clash with the correct school uniform. This was one of the reasons why we had to change our uniform this year as there were so many variaQons of the shorts the boys were wearing to school. I want to be very clear about the transiQon to the new Infant Jesus School Uniform. This was outlined to parents in Semester 2, 2019 and the NEW uniform was displayed for a number of weeks in the hall at this Qme. It was also discussed at the ACM in 2019. ALL students aCending Infant Jesus School will be required to wear the NEW School Uniform (Winter, Summer & Sports - all with the new logo) by 2022. We feel this, gives parents enough Qme to transiQon from the old uniform to the new uniform. (Week 2, Term 1 2020).
Ex-students….. CongratulaQons to Annabelle Di Ciano, an ex-Infant Jesus School student, who is now afending Mercedes College. During her Qme at Infant Jesus School, she learnt the flute for four years and was a member of our school Concert Band. The opportunity to learn the flute, at Infant Jesus School, from Year 3 to Year 6 has seen Annabelle conQnue her musical accomplishments as she now plays in the Mercedes/Trinity Wind Orchestra and this year was the winner of a Two-Year Music Scholarship for a student who is passionate about music and demonstrates excepQonal music talent. Annabelle also audiQoned for and was chosen as a member of WA Youth Orchestra Flute Choir for 2021.

Kindergarten 2022 – Applications are Now Due Enrolments are now being taken for siblings and new students wishing to commence Kindergarten at Infant Jesus School in 2022. Families with children eligible for Kindergarten in 2022 (born from July 2017 to June 2018) are required to fill out an Infant Jesus School ApplicaQon Form. Infant Jesus School will conQnue to operate two concurrent Kindergarten groups next year with the days of afendance being Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Kindergarten places are limited so it is important that parents within the Infant Jesus School community submit their applicaQons as soon as possible. Forms can be obtained from the office.

Parent Teacher Interviews This year we will con/nue to use Parent Teacher Online (PTO), a web-based online booking system for Parent Teacher mee/ngs. We know that it will save parents /me and is quite easy to use. Using this system, you will be able to book the interview /mes that suit you best from any internet-connected computer. A computer will be available in the Library, during school hours, if you do not have internet access at home or elsewhere. Parents and the broader community play a vital role in suppor/ng successful learning outcomes for our children. The Infant Jesus School Swimming Carnival is fast approaching, and the children are star/ng to get very excited! Details for the carnival are: Venue: Bayswater Waves Aqua/c Centre Date: Thursday 4 April (Week 9) Year Levels: Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students Teacher in Charge: Mrs Lauren Jenkins Departure Time: 8:45am Return Time: 2:30pm Further InformaDon: • Students will need to bring swimwear, towel, recess and lunch and a bag to carry them in (No canteen orders). • As this is an outdoor venue, hats and sunblock are mandatory. • A Lifeguard has been organised and will be on duty during our Carnival. • Our Year 6 Leaders will be providing extra support in the pool for our 25m events. • The program is being finalised and will be made available on Seesaw. If your child will not be returning to school on the bus and will be leaving with their parents, a signed note from the parent needs to be returned to the school by Monday 22 March. Children will only be permi]ed to go home with those guardians who are normally responsible for collec/ng children (parents, grandparents, aunty etc.) or if specified in the note another parent. LOCAL SWIMMING LESSONS INFORMATION Swimming is an important recrea/onal ac/vity in Australia and a life-long skill. It is important that children are taught how to swim to ensure they are safe and comfortable around the water. Swimming is also an excellent fitness ac/vity. If you are interested in your child learning how to swim there are many different swimming programs that are run aler school, on weekends or during the school holidays.
Bayswater Waves: The swim instructors will progress your child through stages 1 to 15 in the Pre-School and School Age swimming lessons at Bayswater Waves. Held in the heated indoor swimming pool the Pre-School and School Age swimming lessons are specifically designed to: • Develop your children’s swim strokes, • Improve their technique, • Increase their fitness, • Learn water safety skills, and • Grow their love of swimming. The Pre-School classes are for children aged 3-6yrs, while each of the School Age classes are for those aged 6 and above. Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre: S/rling Leisure Centres Learn to Swim Program has now changed to an ongoing program, which con/nues for 50 weeks a year and will provide more opportuni/es for assessments and progression for your child. This change will allow us the instructors to tailor the program more to your child’s needs while maintaining the same high standard of instruc/on. The lesson content remains the same following the RLSSWA program for school aged children and the teacher’s commitment to your child’s development is also unchanged. Parents’ can now check their child's progress online through the parent’s portal at leisure.s/rling.wa.gov.au and if they have progressed are able to move them to the next level. Constable Care Incursion Students across the school today watched shows presented by Constable Care. Pre-Primary, Years 1 & 3 students explored the topic of First Aid and were taught how to help in an emergency. Students in Year 4-6 watched, ‘Trending’, a play that focused upon the topics of empathy and respect for others, resilience and cyber safety.
Class Parent Representatives In today’s schooling there is an acknowledged rela/onship between the child, the school and home life. Where a harmonious rela/onship/partnership exists many benefits for a child’s development can occur. With this in mind, we have con/nued the Class Representa/ve Network. The idea of a ‘Class Parent Representa/ve’ is to strengthen /es between home life and school. At Infant Jesus School we hope this will provide the best possible opportuni/es for our children and that it will con/nue to strengthen our home – school rela/onship. The main role of the Class Parent Representa/ve is to: • Welcome new families to the school, introduce them to exis/ng parents and to ensure they feel included in school life. Olen it takes /me for new families to feel this inclusion as too olen they feel isolated when joining a school community. • Organise small, social, year level get-togethers with the other year representa/ve (e.g. coffee mornings/evenings, dinners etc.). • A]end P&F Mee/ngs (where possible) to stay informed and share relevant informa/on within your year level. Through the Class Parent Representa/ve, we hope the BENEFITS will be: • To provide a point of contact for new families in the school. • To allow parents to mix socially so that new and established families develop posi/ve rela/onships with each other.

WE ARE CALLED St Joseph’s Day- 19 March On the December 8 2020, Pope Francis declared this year to be the Year of St Joseph to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the declaraAon of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. In his leGer, ‘Patris Corde’ (With a Father’s Heart) Pope Francis described how Joseph loved Jesus, and how Jesus is described throughout the gospels as “the son of Joseph”. St. Joseph was the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus. According to the earliest ChrisAan tradiAons, he was a carpenter or woodworker. The Gospel of MaGhew calls him a “righteous man,” which means he was an observant man who obeyed God’s law. Joseph was engaged to Mary, when he discovered that she was pregnant with Jesus. The angel of the Lord told him in a dream that he should go ahead with the marriage because Mary’s child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph is a wonderful model for ChrisAans as we live in the world. The Word of God spoken in the Scriptures guides us, but many Ames we have to apply that Word in everyday situaAons. So we must see the reality around us, decide what God desires us to do and then act courageously, justly and with compassion. St Joseph shows us how to be persons of the Word of God. At Infant Jesus School, to celebrate Saint Joseph the children will join together for a EucharisAc CelebraAon on this special feast day. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restricAons, parents will be unable to aGend.
Project Compassion Week 2 of Lent - Margret Last week, through Project Compassion, we learnt about 39-year-old Margret, a teacher at a vocaAonal school for deaf students in the Solomon Islands. She was born deaf, so she knows the challenges it poses to educaAon and employment. Apart from the difficulAes the students all have, the school also faced water shortages, with not enough to supply staff and students with safe water for drinking, cooking, washing and growing vegetables. Then Tropical Cyclone Harold damaged the school and its vegetable garden, amidst the threat of COVID-19. Staff and students rely on the vegetable garden to provide food for their meals. With Caritas Australia’s support, the school installed water tanks, provided cyclone-proof building materials and helped to implement COVID-19 prevenAon measures. Margret’s school now has enough water for its students and the capacity to cater for more, with plans to boost food security, through increased agricultural producAon.
Week 3 of Lent - Oliva This week is the third week of Lent and the Project Compassion story is of Oliva, a 22-year-old woman from Tanzania. She did not have the opportunity to go to school and was embarrassed that she was unable to read, write or count. As an adult, her business was losing money because she couldn’t add up her money and give the right change to customers. Then Oliva enrolled in Caritas Australia’s literacy and numeracy classes. She also set up a home classroom to teach her neighbours, for free, because they were too shy to aGend larger classes. Oliva has now graduated, aGendance at her classes are growing, her kiosk is thriving and she is helping her children with their homework.
Love One Another at Infant Jesus School. You may have seen many different posters around our school, adverAsing different Project Compassion fundraisers. Some of our extremely passionate, and entrepreneurial students have been making items such as comics, chaGerboxes, magnets, bookmarks and more to sell. Other students have created compeAAons and games to raise money. It has been fantasAc to see the other students support these fundraising efforts. Thank you to all those parents who have generously sent their child/ children with small change to support these fundraising efforts.

Kindergarten Class News In Kindergarten, the children have been exploring new life by observing the life cycle of a bu:erfly. Our Science Lab has been the home to six caterpillars that are transforming before the children’s eyes. ACer reading the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar,’ the Kindy children have created and illustrated caterpillars, painted their favourite part of the book and are beginning to retell the story in their own words. The children are very excited to come to Kindy each day!

Pre-Primary Class News We have had a terrific start to Pre-Primary. The children have se7led in well and have adjusted to full <me schooling. They con<nue to form many new friendships across Pre-Primary and develop their social skills. The Pre-Primaries have enjoyed par<cipa<ng in shared reading using a big book and the many play based ac<vi<es associated with it. This week we have commenced using guided reading books which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. We have been blown away by the way they have been engaged in the use of educa<onal apps such as PicCollage. This year will be an amazing year full of fun, laughter and new learning experiences.

Child Safe Framework at Infant Jesus School
The person of each individual human being, in his or her material and spiritual needs, is at the heart of Christ’s teaching: that is why the promotion of the human person is the goal of the Catholic school. Congregation for Catholic Education 1997, par 9.
The Child Safe Framework and the Code of Conduct are clearly linked as both focus on the safety and well-being of our children. At Infant Jesus School the purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The Code applies to staff, students, volunteers, parents and guardians and all who come to our school. The term ‘parents’ includes guardians. Infant Jesus School has a Code of Conduct in place, and as parents, you sign this and agree to this. All staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct. Conduct Statement Two: You give priority to students’ safety and well-being in all your behaviour and decision making.
Staff Example of Specific Behaviours but not limited to: •RelaHonships between staff, students and parents should be professional at all Hmes – no
social media contact and/or exchange of personal details, socialising, etc permiLed. This includes ex-students. Staff to noHfy Principal of any deviaHon from this. •Use of developmentally appropriate materials in the classroom. •Document all parent meeHngs (formal and informal) – copy to PrincipalWhen given sensiHve/personal informaHon from parents – staff to pass it onto the Leadership Team. •Staff to acHvely supervise students whilst on duty. •Thorough Handover at the end of the year between Staff regarding the students.

Reminders to parents to act appropriately with other children in the school (ie) respect the personal boundaries/space of every child. Parents to have wriLen permission to take other children home at the conclusion of an in school event, eg. Sports carnival, swimming carnival, etc Parents to seek permission before adding photos of children within the school to social media feeds. Parents must sign children in and out through the office, if collecHng children early or arriving at school late. WriLen notes to office regarding administraHon of medicaHon ConfidenHality when assisHng in the classroom, school, etc.

Respect each other’s privacy and personal space. Students to adhere to Behaviour Management Policy – school and classroom Children learn how to use ICT appropriately and adhere to ICT rules

ConfidenHality – not engaging in discussions or disclosing informaHon about children/family situaHons. Volunteers need to be visible by the class teacher at all Hmes Mini-inducHon for student volunteers
Visitors Example of Specific Behaviours but not limited to: • •
All visitors, including tradespeople and delivery people to be accompanied by a staff member on school grounds during school Hmes and sign in and out of the office. Staff to write in daybook when visitors are in the school.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY You may have heard from some excited children, but our iLab has a new addi9on in it - a 3D printer! Currently, students in iHour and Year Two have been learning how to create digital designs that can then be 3D printed. A 3D printer is a device that melts plas9c filament and builds layers to create an object. At Infant Jesus School, the children are using soJware called, ‘Maker’s Empire’ to create 3D designs that are then sent to the printer as an STL file. Depending upon the size and detail of the object that is being printed, the print jobs can take from one hour to several hours! 3D printers are now used throughout the world in medical applica9ons, construc9on and many start up businesses. What an amazing tool for our children at Infant Jesus School to explore!
