Mother’s Day We have put together a short video…

Dear Parents Welcome Back Welcome to Term Two. As you are aware, the last six or seven weeks have been an incredibly challenging Mme for everyone. The COVID-19 virus has impacted on every aspect of our daily lives. EducaMon has been no excepMon. I do want to thank you all for your ongoing support and commitment to Infant Jesus School.

I would like to remind you that Infant Jesus School is open for your child to aIend if you so choose, and we welcome their aIendance. We, as a staff, are very excited to see the children aIend school and are looking forward to when the rest of the students return in the near future.

The recent advice from the WA Chief Health Officer, Dr Andrew Robertson, confirms that the risk of transmission of the virus in the school se^ng is low.

With the stringent cleaning protocols implemented this term, I believe Infant Jesus School is a controlled, clean and safe environment for students. Of course, as parents, you need to make an informed decision about whether you wish to send your child to school at this Mme. Catholic EducaMon Western Australia is guided by, and in full compliance with, the COVID-19 NaMonal Principles for School EducaMon.

Afternoon PickUp Times We are looking at ways to alleviate the traffic congesMon at home Mme.

In making a final decision regarding the full return by students to schools, the following three consideraMons will need to be saMsfied: 1. Our students and staff must be safe at school.

2. The educaMon provided to all students must be high quality and equitable.

3. Teachers will provide teaching and learning opportuniMes to students through one mode of delivery.

As menMoned previously, in determining the achievement of these three condiMons, CEWA will undertake a formal review of its current posiMon on Monday 11 May. We will closely monitor the Government’s daily health advice, guided by the Chief Health Officer of Western Australia and informed by the Australian Health ProtecMon Principal CommiIee (AHPPC).

To ensure that we respect whatever decision you make about your child’s aIendance, and to enable equity for all students, our teachers will be delivering the same curriculum to the students whether they are at school or at home. It has been fantasMc to see the children engaged in their learning whether they have been at school or home. The feedback from both staff and parents has been very posiMve in this regard.

Currently, our enrolment numbers would indicate that more and more parents are feeling comfortable with the noMon of sending the children back to school with enrolments at 60% currently. As parents become more assured that schools are safe, there is the potenMal for more children to physically return to school. This will begin to change the learning dynamics of classrooms as we move back to face-to-face teaching and normality (as far as this is possible) at Infant Jesus School.

Remote Learning Packs’ will sMll be created for those students working from home and parents are requested to advise their children’s teachers (via Seesaw) if their child/ren will not be returning to school on Monday 11 May. I once again reaffirm that every child’s place in a Catholic school is guaranteed, regardless of a parent’s financial situaMon. InformaMon regarding fee relief and details of the Health Care Card discount scheme have also been provided to you previously. If you have any concerns with school fees, I strongly encourage you to meet with me to discuss your situaMon. I hope parents are checking the school’s online communicaMon tools (e.g. TwiIer, Seesaw, Teams) regularly to see some of the exciMng things our students and staff have been doing. Some of the work has been amazing and I have been super-impressed with the efforts that staff and students have been applying into their work.

Our Drop-Off and Pick-Up procedures are working very well, and I thank parents for supporMng us with this ‘change in procedure’, as well as the staff for picking up the extra duMes to ensure the safety of every child entering or exiMng our school each day. There is further informaMon regarding pick-up procedures (see ~AQernoon Pick-Up Times) in this newsleIer which I ask parents to read carefully.

It is amazing what something like the current pandemic can do to people in general. As a staff, we have noMced most children becoming more resilient and confident as they are dropped off at the gate and they make their way to their classrooms, carrying their own backpack and other items. I realise this has been a difficult Mme for some parents, dropping their children off at the gate and walking away, however, the posiMve outcome has been an increase in confidence and self-esteem witnessed in the children.

The old saying that “The warmth of a home comes from the heart of the mother”, is a true expression of the constant nurturing by a mother to her family.

There have been countless aIempts to list the “occupaMons” in which a mother has to be skilled or place a “monetary value” on all a mother does for society. However, it someMmes takes the simple words of a young person to highlight the legacy of mother’s life-giving for her family: From seeds you watered us.

As we sprouted you helped us grow With warmth of your radiant love.

Along the way you trimmed us to keep us safe from harm.

When we grew out of our liIle pods You replanted us where you gave us hope And showed us faith that we may be able to Do for others as you did for us.”

I sincerely thank the Infant Jesus School staff for working long hours and for their commitment to the Infant Jesus School students and parents. The teachers have worked Mrelessly to provide the best possible educaMon for their students, responding to emails/messages/Seesaw posts and making contact with parents. This will conMnue, in the interim, unMl we have a full cohort of students at school.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for all mothers So, ‘that genius which belongs to women will ensure sensiMvity’, Especially for the people of their immediate family.

I thank the many parents who have emailed me personally to express their graMtude and support for the efforts of the school and staff in these challenging Mmes. I would also like to thank the many parents who have dropped in some delicious ‘treats’ for the staff in appreciaMon of their hard work and effort or acknowledged the school in some small way. This acknowledgement has been greatly appreciated and certainly helps keep morale high. I look forward to all students being back at school very soon.

Mother’s Day It is going to be a liIle unusual this year not being able to celebrate Mother’s Day at Infant Jesus School with our Mums! As you are aware, we normally have a Breakfast or Morning Tea, as well as a ‘Special Mass’ for our Mums to recognise the very important part they play in each of our lives.

Nevertheless, Mother’s Day (Sunday) presents us with a chance to reflect on the many things that our mothers do for us and conMnue to do for us each and every day.

Afternoon Pick-Up Times

As the number of students returning to school increases, we are looking at ways that we can improve traffic flow and ease congesMon around the school at Pick-Up Mme. Therefore, we are going to implement a staggered “home Mme” for our students commencing next week (Monday 11 May).

At the moment, with more students beginning to aIend school, the roads around the school have begun to become quite congested, so we are looking at alternate ways to ease both the congesMon and maintain the safety and care of all our students.

We are looking at ways to alleviate the traffic congesMon at home Mme. We have made some changes to the designated "home Mme" for some of our year levels. Please note that drop off locaMons remain the same and will not be changed.

Where parents have more than one child in the school students are instructed to go to the earliest collecMon Mme (and gate/car park) for their family. For example: ‣ If there is a family with a child in Kindergarten and another in Year 2, the Year 2 child will be dismissed for the 2.30pm Pick-Up at the Basketball Court Car Park. ‣ Similarly, if there is a family with a child in Pre-Primary and another in Year 6, the Year 6 child will be dismissed so that they can meet their sibling for collecMon at 2.45pm at Basketball Court Park Drive-Thru.

Each FAMILY will receive a LeZer tomorrow outlining which gate their family is to be collected from. (This will also be posted to Seesaw). We ask that parents speak to their child/ren about this, so they are clear as to their Pick-Up arrangements of an a4ernoon. If you are collecMng your child from the Admin Car Park Gate (where Mr Hille is each day) we ask that you, please noMfy your class teacher. These children will be dismissed at normal home Mme (3.00pm).

The safety and well-being of the students at Infant Jesus School is always our highest priority. Staff will be present at the various collecMon points to assist with the collecMon of your child each day. Please follow their instrucMons and don’t forget to display your “Family Name Card” each a4ernoon to assist with idenMficaMon of the various vehicles. We thank parents for their paMence and understanding as we endeavour to abide the social distancing rules put in place at the moment.

Pope Francis asks Catholics to Pray the Rosary for Pandemic Pope Francis has asked all Catholics to pray the rosary during the month of May to ask for Mary's intercession in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his address the Pope said: “The month of May is approaching, a _me when the People of God express with par_cular intensity their love and devo_on for the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is tradi_onal in this month to pray the rosary at home within the family. The restric_ons of the pandemic have made us come to appreciate all the more this “family” aspect, also from a spiritual point of view.

For this reason, I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the rosary at home in the month of May. This can be done either as a group or individually; you can decide according to your own situa_ons, making the most of both opportuni_es. The key to doing this is always simplicity, and it is easy also on the internet to find good models of prayers to follow.

Dear brothers and sisters, contempla_ng the face of Christ with the heart of Mary our Mother will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us overcome this _me of trial. I keep all of you in my prayers, especially those suffering most greatly, and I ask you, please, to pray for me. I thank you, and with great affec_on I send you my blessing.”

Staffing Mrs Amanda Edwards will be taking leave for the remainder of this year as she, her husband Peter and daughter Evie are expecMng a liIle brother or sister in the coming weeks. We take this opportunity to wish Amanda and her family all the best for the safe arrival of their second child and thank her for her efforts this year.

Self-Care for Parents During COVID-19 As parents, we o4en put our needs aside as we focus on caring for, raising and supporMng our children. For many, parenMng during the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a completely new set of challenges.

We are helping our children cope with many big changes and all the different feelings and reacMons that come with adjusMng to a new sense of normal. These are stressful Mmes for parents too! It is important now, more than ever, to take the Mme to care for ourselves so we can conMnue to parent effecMvely and maintain our mental health and wellbeing.

Connect with your Faith For many Catholics this is a Mme where we want to connect with God and with our faith community. Try to connect with your church in different ways –parMcipate in live streaming of Mass, engage with your parish’s social media, or access prayer resources online. Create a sacred space at home where you can pray alone or as a family. Keep God present as you spend Mme reflecMng and reassessing prioriMes. Make Mme for Yourself Many of us are spending much more Mme at home parenMng our children while also conMnuing to have ongoing responsibiliMes. Much of the personal Mme that was part of our daily lives – going to the gym, social Mme with friends, even driving to work – is not available for parents with children learning at home. Find ways to sMll transiMon from the different tasks and roles in your life. Purposefully create a space to recharge and de-stress. What this looks like is different for every person. Maybe it is making a space for prayer and reflecMon, going for a walk alone, listening to music, or taking Mme to read or zone out a4er the kids are in bed.

Look a4er your Physical Health In a Mme of added stress and lack of structure, it can be easy to do things that feel good in the moment but are not helpful or healthy in the longer term. Try to eat properly, make Mme to be physically acMve, get a good night’s sleep, and follow official guidelines around the specific hygiene and health pracMces that are needed right now to keep yourself and others well. Be intenMonal about your health and do what you can to keep yourself physically well.

Connect with Others Maintain social connecMons and a sense of community. You may not be able to visit in person so find another way to connect to others email, social media, telephone, video-calls. ConMnue conversaMons with family and close friends. Even if they are not physically near, try to speak with or connect with someone each day. Also, consider those friends, neighbours and family who might not be tech savvy and help them to set up apps, video-calls, and other ways of linking in with others.

Connect with your Children Scheduling just 10 minutes of quality play or conversaMon Mme with your child each day can lead to a healthier parent-child relaMonship. Give your child your undivided aIenMon and let them choose and lead the acMvity. This can boost self-esteem, helps children to know they are important and loved and helps you both to feel calmer and safe.

Monitor your Media Exposure With so many people feeling anxious, stressed and uncertain, it can be easy to absorb the concerns and fears of others without realising. Be mindful of the material you are consuming through the media, as well as through, social media. If you are feeling stressed or worried, exposing yourself to a constant stream of distressing media stories is unlikely to be helpful. Try limiMng the frequency of checking the news about the pandemic.

PracMce Self-Compassion Be realisMc about what you can do at this Mme – both at work, and as a parent. Be kind and forgiving to yourself if you cannot meet the usual expectaMons. This is not the usual situaMon. You are doing the best you can.

Create Structure Children thrive with a sense of structure and rouMne and it is helpful for adults too. Some people like to map out their day in a schedule, and others may follow a loose paIern of the day. Even se^ng a designated space in your home for work, study, or prayer can convey a sense of purpose and normality.

Remember that many parts of your day do remain the same. ConMnue your usual family rouMnes for prayer, meals, and bed Mmes as this consistency can be comforMng and reassuring.

Prayer for the Week God our Creator, we pray: For new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility; for expectant mothers, wondering and waiMng; For those who are Mred, stressed or depressed; For those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family; For those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty; For those whose children have physical, mental or emoMonal disabiliMes; For those who have children they do not want; For those who raise children on their own; For those who have lost a child; For those who care for the children of others; For those whose children have le4 home; and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.

Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender, And that they may lead their children to know and do what is good, living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others.

Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures Thank you to ALL our parents and grandparents who have made the morning and a4ernoon pick up and drop off procedures relaMvely seamless and pain free for all involved. To further assist this process please ensure that your family name is displayed on the visor.

We especially thank the teachers, and educaMon assistants who are assisMng with this smooth flowing procedure.

Please be aware that the Basketball Court drop off and pick-up area has been specifically allocated to provide a safe entrance and exit for all Kindergarten and Pre-Primary children. Therefore, this car park will be used as a “drive-through area” and not a parking area.

Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students will be supervised at both drop off and pick-up Mmes. Staff will accompany Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students to and from class.

Attendance Thank you to all our students who have been effecMve at compleMng their check ins in the morning to let us know that they are working at home. This data is kept in the school register and is used to ascertain who is at school, and who is working at home on a daily basis.

Seesaw App Some parents may have noMced that they are not receiving regular noMficaMons from Seesaw. Seesaw has recently changed their se^ngs to limit parent noMficaMons to once a day due to remote learning. We suggest you check Seesaw by entering the app during the day unMl this se^ng has changed.

Winter Uniform A reminder to all parents that this term all students are required to be in winter uniform. To assist parents and students in this transiMon, a two-week change-over period will be permiIed with all students in full winter uniform by Week 3. We understand that some families may be unable to purchase some winter uniform items at this stage. The following winter uniform items should be available during May and June.

Online Safety Keeping children safe online during the COVID-19 pandemic. The global impact of COVID-19 means young people will be spending more Mme at home — and more Mme online. There are lots of great ways children can use connected devices to learn and play, but there are also risks.

As parents and carers, you have the best opportunity to support and guide your children to avoid online risks and have safer experiences. Governments and industry also have a role to play in making sure the online world is a safe place to be.

In these uncertain Mmes, children may feel isolated or anxious, and might see family members disturbed by the COVID-19 impacts. Away from school, children have less access to their usual support systems including friends, teachers and counsellors. If possible, it could be useful to reach out to your child’s regular support people to check if they can provide online or telephone support.

This guide covers some of the key online safety issues for young people and includes a range of pracMcal Mps and advice on what to do if things go wrong. It covers common online safety issues like managing Mme online, using parent controls and se^ng and responding to issues like cyberbullying, inappropriate content, sending nudes and contact from strangers.

WE ARE CALLED 13

Season of Easter The Season of Easter takes place from when Jesus rose to new life on Easter Sunday to the Ascension when Jesus returns to his Father in heaven. During this Mme Jesus makes his presence known to the disciples. The first appearance was approximately eight days a4er Easter when all the disciples, except Thomas, were gathered. Jesus’ greeMng was ‘Peace’ – all was forgiven and the disciples were filled with joy. Jesus then bestowed on them the gi4 of the Holy Spirit saying, ‘As the Father sent me, so I am sending you.’ As Thomas was not there and refused to believe.

Jesus appeared again, eight days later, when Thomas was with them. Again, Jesus greeted them with ‘Peace’. He asked Thomas to touch his hands and side and Thomas then believed and professed ‘My Lord and My God’ – a prayer that we say today that expresses what we believe.

Jesus appeared again when he joined two disciples on the walk to Emmaus. These disciples only recognised him when he joined them in the evening for a meal. At this Mme, he took the bread, broke it and gave it to them. Immediately the eyes of the disciples were opened, they recognised the significance of what Jesus did and they knew that he had truly risen.

Joyful Mysteries At the joyful Mme in her life an angel, Gabriel, announces to Mary that she is to be the mother of Jesus. Mary then shares this news with her cousin Elizabeth. Jesus is born and then, as a baby, He is presented in the temple. Later, as a twelve-year-old, Jesus shares a special message with the teachers at the temple.

Sorrowful Mysteries During the sorrowful part of her life, Mary watched as Jesus prayed in the garden before the soldiers came to take him away. She was there when He was crowned with thorns and led off to die. She saw Jesus dies on the cross.

Glorious Mysteries The last part of Mary’s life can be seen as a glorious Mme. To begin, Jesus rose from the dead and went to heaven.

Jesus then came back to see and talk with His friends.

Finally, Mary foes to heaven to become the mother for all of Jesus’ friends. She is then crowned Queen of heaven and earth.

Mysteries of Light (Luminous Mysteries) In October 2002, Pope John Paul II added the Mysteries of Light to the Holy Rosary, calling us to pray the Rosary daily; for our families – and for world peace. Each mystery reflects on some of the important moments in Christ’s life from his bapMsm

by John the BapMst, his work in proclaiming the Kingdom and concludes with the Last Supper.

Today, we remember the same breaking of the bread each Mme we celebrate the Eucharist. Jesus comes to us to help us make his words and acMons live in what we do and what we say.

Lent and Project Compassion 2020

Traditional Prayers – The Rosary

Last Term, throughout Lent each class discussed the Project Compassion stories and their work in helping those in need. Children and families donated very generosity to support this work in Australia and around the world. We sincerely thank everyone who made a donaMon during the Mme the final amount was $850.00.

The month of May has tradiMonally been a Mme when we pray to Mary. The Rosary is o4en prayed during this Mme. The Rosary comprises many wellknown prayers including the ‘Hail Mary’ which is prayed o4en throughout the whole prayer, the Our Father and the Glory Be. The Rosary reflects of some of the very important events in Mary’s life. Her life, as the mother of Jesus, is closely linked to Jesus’ life and begins joyfully (Joyful Mysteries) then experiences sorrow (Sorrowful Mysteries) and is finally glorious (Glorious Mysteries). The Mysteries of Light to reflect Jesus, the light of the world.

Kindergarten Class News

The last two weeks in Kindy has been amazing. We have conMnued to learn using very different pla{orms.

The children both at home and at school have been delivered the same curriculum by using some innovaMve teaching methods. If we reflect on the driver Life-long learning, the teachers have embraced different digital tools to communicate with, support and extend the Kindy children in these diverse Mmes in educaMon. Each day the children watch a video posted on seesaw to outline the day’s acMviMes. We have also posted “StoryMme with Our Favourite Teachers” each day to help the conMnuity between home and school. It has been a great learning journey for all.

We, are so impressed with the learning that is happening within the home environment. Parents have shown such iniMaMve and creaMvity in helping their children become independent learners. The parents have followed the learning outcomes and delivered play-based experiences so that the children are enjoying their ‘home packs’ rather than resisMng! We would like to THANK all the parents at home who are working and helping their children to learn in such a happy, fun filled manner.

The children at school have been involved in Kindy Team calls with their friends at home, as well as videos which have been posted on seesaw. Although the term has started in an unusual manner, it has been a joy to spend Mme with individual children, supporMng and extending their learning at school. We are all in this together!

This term our main focus is ‘God Created the World and Everything in it’.

The first two weeks have included our special mums. This weekend is Mother’s Day and we would like to wish all the Kindy mothers a beauMful day. We hope you have enjoyed compleMng the acMviMes we have set for your child this week. The Mother’s Day crowns and cards are a way for your children to show you their appreciaMon. On Sunday, parents have the opportunity to help their child make a ‘Hug in a Mug muffin’ for all mums to enjoy on Mother’s Day. WE HOPE YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL MOTHERS DAY!

Pre-Primary Class News It has been a different start to Term Two this year, with some of our students returning to school and some conMnuing their learning journey at home. Wherever our students may be undertaking their learning, we would like to take this opportunity to say how proud we are of each of you, and also how extremely grateful we are to all parents for your support during these unprecedented Mmes.

In English this term, we will be exploring fairy tales. We kicked it off with ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’.

We have been busy recreaMng front covers, wriMng apology leIers to the three bears and creaMng collage of Goldilocks. We have even been lucky enough to see some ‘acMng’ by our teachers as they put together a short snippet of the story for us to see.

We have also been focusing on our Mums, with Mother’s Day just around the corner. We have enjoyed listening to stories about ‘Mums’, lisMng the many reasons we love our Mums and beginning to create cards and gi4s for them.

As a school community we are yet to have the opportunity to visit the Church or aIend our first mass, we have been keeping our faith alive in the classroom through discussions about communicaMon and how we can use our communicaMon skills to show love to others just as Jesus did. We have also been keeping anyone affected by COVID-19 in our thoughts and prayers.

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing everyone back soon!

Sport News Well it has been a different start to the term for sport but it has been amazing watching all the children parMcipaMng in both the online sports and the morning fitness program! We have had a great response to the morning fitness video’s and especially the new ‘Friday Morning Mrs Jenkins Challenge’. It has been fantasMc seeing the children working hard on trying to improve their fitness and challenge themselves.

Skipping is a great way to keep fit, here are two fantasMc links to get you skipping: the first link is for beginners (those children who need to learn how to skip) and the second is for those experienced skippers who want a challenge.
