Thank you for registering for part 2 of our 2021 IIABL Virtual Spring Conference webinar series! We’re glad that you will be joining us, and we hope that you find the presentation valuable. I’d like to take a moment to recognize and thank our partners without whom we could not produce events like this. I’d also like to thank Paul Buse, our speaker for Thursday’s event. Paul’s many years of experience in the industry have led him to start a consulting business, and we have partnered with him to create the Louisiana Marketplace Report. This webinar will be an overview of the upcoming 2020 version of that report, and a discussion of how you can leverage that data to inform the operations of your agency. You should leave Thursday’s presentation with an understanding of growth, distribution, and loss trends in the major lines of business for Louisiana. For instance, the data will clearly illustrate the absolutely massive effect of the 2020 hurricanes on insurer loss ratios, empowering your conversations with insureds in an increasingly challenging market. Paul will also be taking questions at the end of his presentation, so please come ready with any questions you have regarding the report and the trends we’re seeing in the data. As always, the association is here to support you and your agency, so please reach out if there is anything that we can do. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you at the Virtual Spring Conference event on Thursday!

Virtual Expo

Paul Buse is the presenter of the Louisiana P-C summary today. He’s also the creator of the marketplace report format and the analysis of looking at Louisiana’s P-C industry data. He takes the view of a former independent insurance agent in creating this report.Paul credits much of the impact of the report to suggestions from 20 Big I states that adopted the report for the 2019 data.

Paul A. Buse

CPCU, ARM Risk and Insurance Consultant

Paul started out as an independent agent in Madison, Wisconsin after graduating from U of W. After starting his CPCU, he was told by his CPCU #1 instructor about the UW Risk & Insurance program at Madison. Intrigued, Paul started with the introductory risk management class and then moved through the ranks of student to teaching assistant for that U.W. risk and insurance program. After five years as a Big I member in Madison and armed with an MBA and half a CPCU, Paul headed off for 12 years of risk and insurance consulting in Washington D.C. for the Wyatt Company and then Aon. You might recognize both those industry names as they have been in trade press of late. Wyatt is now part of Willis Towers Watson and, WTW is set to merge with Aon. After consulting for associations and financial institutions at Wyatt-Aon, Paul became familiar with the National Big I as the banks and insurance movement was building. Paul had worked with numerous banks in facilitating their starting insurance marketing efforts. While Paul had been a member of the Badger Big I in the early 1980s, now he worked at the national Big I in their for-profit products and publishing operations. You might know the national Big I products operation from the national E&O program with Swiss Re-Westport that is brought to you in Louisiana buy the IIABL. Formally, the holding company and branding is best known as “Big I Advantage.” While there Paul was president of Big I Advantage and various subsidiaries formed.Paul also started a reinsurance company with 43 states…Louisiana is one…to give strategic alignment to the national E&O program with national, states and Swiss Re. He oversaw the national operation’s obtaining their P&C, L&H and E&S licenses and started an investment advisor. After 21 years with the Big I, Paul retired and started his consulting operation, Real Insurance Solutions Consulting. Paul notes Big I Advantage is in great hands under new leadership, but he stays close to his colleagues through an ongoing relationship with Big I Reinsurance Company. Today, you’ll see he’s very much enjoying returning to the analytical side of the business and hopefully you’ll gain much, be inspired and enjoy today’s summary of the Louisiana P-C Marketplace.
