Going the Extra Mile

On Thursday the 17th of March, the team had been asked to clear the children’s ward (A22). Martin Wilkes (Waste Services Supervisor) attended to assist the staff to remove the bulky items for disposal at the waste yard. During the removal of the waste Martin came across a lot of toys, and rather than disposing of the Martin took it upon himself to ring around local charity shops to see if they would accept the toys and reuse them, unfortunately none of them could collect the toys.
Martin was determined for the toys go for reuse, so he asked for permission to deliver the toys to a local charity shop in Whitmore Reans, which he had previously contacted, called ‘Sue Ryder Care’, who were very grateful for the donation and accepted all the toys.

Martin Wilkes went above and beyond his duties not only to reduce waste and increase reuse, but to give a helping hand to those young children in need. Martin has demonstrated that anyone can make their contribution in looking after our environment and helping the Trust achieve its net zero goals.
