Practice Work Precaution for Laminar Airflow
LAMINAR AIRFLOW IS USED IN LABORATORIES WHERE THE ENTIRE AIR FLOWS INTO A DESIGNATED AREA AND PROVIDES UNIFORM VELOCITY AND DIRECTION WITHIN THE CABINET AIRSPACE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO USE THE LAMINAR AIRFLOW IN THE RIGHT WAY TO ENSURE THAT IT WORKS FOR A LONG TIME GIVING THE RIGHT RESULTS AND PROTECTION TO YOUR SAMPLES.
What should you do to maintain the Laminar airflow? The Laminar airflow is not a storage cabinet and must not be cluttered for that will obstruct the airflow in the work area. Cluttering would also make the cleaning of the work surface difficult. Wash hands and arms properly before entering the cabinet. The cabinet stores fragile samples, prone to contamination. Practicing hand washing would ensure sterilisation and non-transmission of foreign objects on the stored products. Hands must be washed not just before entering the workspace but also after. Make sure that when you are storing objects in the Laminar airflow, you arrange them in such a way that your work is not affected by the storage and the other sterilised objects are not disturbed while you are working. Arranging all the objects systematically offers a wider work area that is cleaned by the ULPA filter. You must remember not to spray solutions on the HEPA/ULPA filter. While arranging the cabinet keep the larger objects away from the hood back. They could contaminate the other items within the cabinet and therefore removing them from the area would be a good idea. Every object must be disinfected before it is allowed entry inside the cabinet.
What must you avoid maintaining the sterilization of the laminar airflow? Avoid wearing jewelry such as rings, wristlets, or bracelets. Jewelry can introduce bacteria for despite cleaning your hands, bacteria can be present on your jewelry pieces.
