! The Hassan Mosque Hassan Mosque: The most famous landmark in Rabat, an unfinished Almohad minaret standing at 40 metres.

Sultan Yacoub al Mansour began construction of this enormous minaret in 1195, with the intention of reaching 60m thus marking the highest in the Muslim World. This ambitious project was abandoned when al Mansour died with the minaret, still standing today, at 40m. The adjacent mosque was destroyed by a subsequent earthquake and only a few re-erected pillars stand today.

Kasbah of the Udayas

! ! !

Kasbah Oudayas is originally a small fortress built by the Almoravids in the fight against the Berghouata tribes. It becomes important with the Almohads, making a Ribat overlooking the mouth of the river Bouregreg and call Mehdiya.

The site was abandonned after the Almohads,It is the arrival of the Moors of Al-Andalus who revived the Kasbah .Since 2012, it is part on the list of World Heritage UNESCO.

Chellah: A large walled and towered enclosure, one of the most beautiful and peaceful Moroccan ruins, the site of an a n c i e n t R o m a n c i t y a n d a M e re n i d necropolis.

!

Bab Rouah : The most interesting of the Almohad walls that run down from the Kasbah to the Royal Palace. It was the only gateway to Rabat by land.

It impresses with its rich decoration because It is both monumental in size and harmonious in its design and ornament.

This garden was opened in 1951,it is a small but beautifully laid out area with winding paths, hidden features such as little waterfalls, miniature tiny gorges, rope bridges and rocks to scramble over.

!It’s a Very cool and refreshing garden to wander in, especially on a very hot day .

Royal Palace of Rabat

The Royal Palace, official residence of King Hassan II of Morocco, is a sumptuous building constructed upon the ruins of an 18th century palace.

You can't really visit the royal palace. It's interesting from a cultural point of view but don't expect to be let in.

St. Peter's Cathedral

St. Peter's Cathedral of Rabat is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in downtown Rabat, Morocco, at place du Golan (Golan Square). It is built in Art Deco and is the seat of the Archdiocese of Rabat.Construction of the cathedral started in 1919. The chief architect was M. Laforgue. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Hubert Lyautey in 1921, and the cathedral became operational in November of that year. The two towers of the cathedral, distinctive of the Rabat skyline, were added in the 1930s.The cathedral is still operational, and mass is celebrated every other day.

There is a nice atmosphere surrounding the medina. It is a piece of the typical historical way of living in Morocco, built in the seventeenth century to accommodate refugees from Andalusia, it is now known for its Mellah (Jewish neighborhood).

Holy Resurrection Church in Rabat is actually the only functioning Russian Orthodox Church in Morocco.The church was built in 1932 and painted completely by icon-painters from Moscow in 2011.You can visit the church any day when priest is in town, which is most of the time

Rabat-Salé Renovated in 2012, the airport of Rabat offered a wide selection of destinations/provenances to the country with very low and competitive prices. Located about 20min from city center, the access to the airport is possible by taxi, shuttle bus or private car of many volunteers from SCOPE team of Rabat. Also you can find ATM, banks for change, café-bar, phones, duty-free shops… Price : Taxi = 150dh day/ 200dh night Bus = 20dh (mainly Ryan Air and Jet Air Fly flights)

Tramway Rabat-Salé With its 2 lines network, the tramway remains the best option to move around the city. From the hospitals area to the old medina and Marina of Salé, the Tramway of Rabat-Salé covers all the important things to visit during your stay in town. Buy a ticket before boarding the train, then stamp it on the yellow boxes onboard. Keep your ticket in case of control (very frequent!!). As your exchange lasts one month, we advise you to buy a monthly subscription (card). Don’t forget to bring a recent photo which will be required.

Using a taxi in Rabat is actually not very expensive. A ride should generally not exceed 20 dirhams in Rabat. However, you won’t have to use it that often (only by night or in case of emergencies). Be sure to check the counter is running to avoid being over charged at the end of the trip. NO COUNTER NO TAXI ! And don't be surprised if the taxi stops to pick someone else up. Rabat is served by two railway stations: Rabat VILLE and Rabat AGDAL. All trains pass through both of them but Rabat Ville is considered as the main train station of the city (as it is located in city center). Train is the most secure option to travel to other cities despite of its delay sometimes. Price : - Rabat-Marrakech : 120dh, 4h30 - Rabat-Fez : 80dh, 3h -Rabat-Casablanca port : 35dh, 1h, fast train every 30min -Rabat-Casablanca airport : 75dh, 2h WITH CONNECTION !!
