harmonising the law

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in 202114 and the Law Commission’s wildlife crime review in 2015 recommend that the patchwork of UK wildlife legislation – some dating back to 1831 – be harmonised under one law. When implemented, these recommendations, so far ignored by the UK government, will make the law governing the protection, control and management of wildlife more consistent, easier to understand and simpler to use.

““The legislation [domestic] is so scattered and there are so many disparities between the UK’s constitute countries…There’s great need for harmonization. I think there’s like 40 different statutes that are out there in relation to wildlife crime.”
