Welcome Note by Dr. Hector R. R Laurence IFAMA President IFAMA 2019 CHINA There are so many excellent reasons to be at IFAMA in China this year: Firstly - the country China - one of the world giants in territory, people, economy, innovation and agribusiness. It is also the city of Hangzhou and the University of Zhejiang and its friendly, hardworking people:

2

Hangzhou and its surrounding territory is an impressive blend of history, traditions, present times and future. Marvelous lakes, wetlands, mountains, cities and prairies. The wide avenues, the silent electric traffic, the non-polluted and sustainable living together with a clear perception of order and security with respect and nonaggression….. and of course the” laboratory “of latest technologies and innovation - the finest e-commerce, with Alibaba as a world leading institution.

The Zhejiang University-highly prestigious, covers key topics such as agribusiness and social rural development in the China Academy for Rural Development (CARD) with high quality staff and students, networking with related institutions in the world and expanding key areas of teaching, learning and research.

Secondly, all of this is creating the platform for the 29th IFAMA World Conference in 2019 IFAMA with its global membership, in partnership with CARD, offers a unique platform for academia, students, business executives from all over the world, key governance institutions and representatives with the latest innovations in business, governance, science and technology. We will surely experience unique opportunities for learning, networking and of course socializing on the beautiful setting of the Zhejiang campus and the world famous Shangri-La hotel, next to the West Lake.

IFAMA 2019 will offer excellent research papers and expert led Round Table panels on “hot topics” such as e-commerce in agribusiness and value chain transformations; land tenure governance and social rural development - different realities, experiences and results facing agribusiness; issues in trade, food safety and security and food supply - all key matters to feed a growing number of people all over the planet and a critical issue for peaceful coexistence, progress and happiness. We will also learn about the Chinese economic miracle-the policies and strategies and people that created this; the Alibaba story; the Global Gap experience and many more We will note the brilliance of the students and young professionals in their presentations at the IFAMA Global Case Competition - show casing their talent and skills And lastly…. We will meet the Chinese people and their cultures – visit the city and its surroundings, enjoy the hospitality in beautiful settings and tea houses, sample unique food and cuisine and go on the excellent congress tours— All in all, an unforgettable learning enjoyable experience for all!! See you in Hangzhou, China Hector Laurence President, IFAMA
