Thank you for investing your time and talent to participate in the2016 IFAMA World Conference and the 2016 WICeNeM Conference in Aarhus, Denmark. We are fortunate this year to be working together, along with the Danish Food Cluster, to host this world class event. 2016 marks the second of three years in which we will focus on the theme Become the Solution: Food Security 2050. Under this theme, we will be paying particular attention to three major issues; the Flow of Talent in the Food and Agribusiness sector (People); Climate-Smart Food and Agribusiness Systems (Climate); and Better Analytics and Deeper Insight Management (Big Data). The next few days will provide you with an opportunity to hear Symposium presentations from some of the leading food and agribusiness research projects, see students showcasing their talent in the Student Case Competition, and participate in roundtable discussions during the Forum. The Enterprise Europe Network is facilitating One-to-One networking, and a number of social events and site visits are planned to help you find new partners. We encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunity to engage across sectors and cultures – this is one of the special values that IFAMA brings to each of us. IFAMA (the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association) is an international management organization that brings together current and future business, academic, and government leaders along with other industry stakeholders to improve the strategic focus, transparency, sustainability and responsiveness of the global food and agribusiness system.

Denmark’s food and agriculture cluster is the third biggest in the world, exporting to more than 130 countries and accounting for almost a quarter of the nation’s total product exports. STUDENT CASE COMPETITION In its eleventh year, the International Student Case Competition has become a capstone event for IFAMA, offering students a rare venue to demonstrate their analytical and problem-solving skills before a panel of senior management judges. The competition also provides universities a global stage to showcase the next generation of business leaders in the ag sector. This year, we have twenty five teams competing from institutions all over the world. Also, for the first time, we have multiple divisions of competition, including graduate and undergraduate level teams. The competition begins with a preliminary round on Sunday, June 19. The teams are given a “real world” challenge in the form of a case study. Teams have four hours to analyze the problem, formulate a solution and develop a presentation. Each team delivers their oral presentation to a panel of three judges. Six teams (two graduate advanced, two graduate intermediate and two undergraduate) will be selected to advance into a final phase of competition occurring on Monday, June 20 15:30–18:00. Please join us for the final phase of the competition as the advancing teams present their solutions to a new panel of judges. The winners will be honored at the President’s Award Dinner on Wednesday, June 22, 19:00–22:00. TEAM

DANISH CROWN HORSENS DANISH CROWN GROUP Danish Crown Group is a global meat processing company and among the largest in its field. Danish Crown Foods is Europe’s largest meat processing company and Danish Crown Beef is a significant player in the European beef market. DANISH CROWN HORSENS Danish Crown Horsens is one of East Jutland’s largest employers with 1,620 employees, as well as 85 Danish Food & Drug Administration employees and 110 employees from ISS (facilities and cleaning). Forty-two different nationalities work together in the factory that occupies an area of 86,000m2 spread over two floors. The factory opened in 2005 and is the world’s most advanced slaughterhouse, with a focus on continuous improvement in logistics, hygiene, new technology, quality, environment and energy, and the work environment. Danish Crown Horsens slaughters and processes 100,000 pigs per week. The pork is exported to more than 90 different countries but mainly to the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Australia and the United States. MOESGAARD MUSEUM, AARHUS Moesgaard Museum is one of Denmark’s leading attractions not only because of its architectural design and exhibitions, but also because of its location overlooking the forest and the sea to the south of Aarhus. DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD The IFAMA 2016 Distinguished Service Awards will be presented on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the 2016 IFAMA World conference President’s Award Dinner.

MICHAEL BOEHLJE PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS, PURDUE UNIVERSITY Early in his academic career Professor Boelhlje was heavily involved in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in farm management, agricultural finance and production economics as well as providing direction to graduate students in award winning research. From Iowa State to the University of Minnesota and later Purdue University, he has continued to grow his extensive research, writing, Extension and speaking programs focused on financial and management problems and policy issues of both producers and lenders. Professor Boehlje has written over 700 publications, from journal articles and books to Extension bulletins and trade publication. His text books on farm management and agricultural finance have been used extensively in classrooms throughout the US, Canada and Europe. He has been and continues to be a frequent speaker and lecturer to lenders, farmers, agribusiness firms, legislative groups and government agencies. He has served on numerous government agency task forces and committees including the USDA Committee on Concentration and Consolidation in Agriculture and many more. He serves several non-profit associations, including IFAMA. “Professor Boehlje has a unique ability to help others focus on the factors that will determine the shape of the food system in the future”, said Dr. Kenneth Foster, Department Head, Agricultural Economics, Purdue University.

CAROLE BROOKINS MANAGING DIRECTOR, PUBLIC CAPITAL ADVISORS, LLC The Honorable Carole L. Brookins served as United States Executive Director to The World Bank Group in Washington, DC from 2001 to 2005 . Ms. Brookins represented the U.S. government as the largest shareholder on the Board of Executive Directors. She was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in the summer of 2001. Ms. Brookins founded World Perspectives in 1980. Ms. Brookins is widely recognized for her expertise on the global political economy and its effect on agricultural and food markets. She served as Vice President in the Commodities Department of E.F. Hutton & Company, Inc. in New York City for seven years. Ms. Brookins served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of World Perspectives, Incorporated, Washington-based strategic advisors providing information, analysis and consulting services to international commodity, financial and government clients. Ms. Brookins has been Director of Climate Exchange Plc since November 8, 2006. She serves as Director of Chicago Climate Exchange, Inc. She served as Director of Terra Industries Inc., as well as on the boards of the international development trust Winrock International, U.S. National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (PECC), the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) and its Food Committee, the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IAMA) and The Atlantic Council. Ms. Brookins also served as a member of the North American Advisory Board of Rabobank International and the International Advisory Committee of CoBank, the World Agricultural Forum Advisory Board and the Advisory Council to Save the Children. In 2006, she co-founded Public Capital Advisors LLC (PCA), where she is a Managing Director. PCA provides Financial Planning and Capital Sourcing for Global Infrastructure Projects, assisting national and sub-sovereign governments, regional authorities and institutions to access capital and meet regulatory requirements for infrastructure projects. She has been called upon by clients around the world for her work as a policy and trade strategist and is widely recognized for her expertise on the global political economy and its effect on agricultural and food markets.

The Corporate Banking division ( ~ 5000 FTE) serves wholesale clients, mainly nationally and partly internationally, especially within our trade and commodity finance franchise (ECT). Niels graduated in 1997 in Financial Economics. After working several years in corporate finance, Niels gained expertise in the Food & Agri sector. Insights in the strategic considerations of these clients made him switch to his current role, where stakeholder value gives better guidance than solely shareholder value.

MARCUS FRANK Markus Frank is a biologist and holds a PhD in Plant Physiology from University of Tubingen, Germany. In his 15 years with BASF SE in Germany, he has worked in BASF in R&D for crop protection and plant biotechnology and strategic marketing. For the last five years, he has been responsible for the Global Sustainability Assessment in BASF Crop Protection. The main focal area of his team is socio-economic life cycle assessment in diverse agricultural production systems in all parts of the world.

PETER GOLDSMITH Dr. Goldsmith graduated in 1995 from the Ohio State University with a PhD in Agricultural Economics. He is currently an Associate Professor of Agribusiness Management in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, University of Illinois. In addition to his PhD, Dr. Goldsmith has received an MBA specializing in Finance, and undergraduate degrees in Dairy Science and Political Science. His research interest is global agroindustrial marketing and strategy. Dr. Goldsmith, has worked the last dozen years in Mato Grosso Brazil and Argentina and is one of the world’s leading soybean economists with unique expertise in tropical soybean production and agro-industrial development. In 2013, Dr. Goldsmith was awarded a $25,000,000 grant to lead USAID’s Soybean Innovation Lab. He currently

PHIL HOGAN EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan has been the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development since November 2015. Formerly a prominent figure in Irish local and national politics,

A professional engineer by training and inventor of SolarWall, John Hollick has one of the longest track records of anyone in the solar heating and drying areas. Spanning four decades, Hollick has spawned a raft of unique technologies and related innovations that enable us to harness solar thermal energy. His invention of the unglazed transpired collector (branded as “SolarWall®”) set the standard for the global solar air heating sector because of its high efficiency and low cost. Some of his other inventions include a combination PV/thermal system that generates both heat and electricity from the same surface area, a nocturnal radiation cooling system for roofs of buildings and a solar chimney tower that uses low temperature solar heat to generate electricity. Hollick has represented Canada on various International Energy Agency (IEA) Tasks from 1990 through to the present, and most recently is involved in the IEA Task 56 in Europe on building integrated renewable energy. He was instrumental in pushing for the ISO 9806 international solar collector test standard for air collectors. Solar heating for agriculture is one of Hollick’s favourite applications which will be the focus of his presentation. From his family’s vineyard and orchard to over a thousand agricultural installations spanning five continents, Hollick has shown that solar heating can be

ESBEN LAULUND Esben Laulund is Senior Vice President for the R&D Microbial Platform organization in the Science, Technology and Supply Division of Chr. Hansen A/S. Chr. Hansen A/S is a global supplier of bioscience based ingredients to the food, health, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. Esben commenced his career with Chr. Hansen in 1986 and since 1996 has worked within the R&D field. In 2007, Esben was appointed head of the Innovation organization which recently has been transformed into the R&D Microbial Platform. In this position, Esben has been instrumental in the transformation of Chr. Hansen A/S into the current focus on microbial solutions as defined in the company Natures #1 strategy. Esben is also the chairman of the Danish Food Cluster and chairman of the “InSPIRe Platform”, a project funded by the “Strategic Innovation Foundation” in Denmark. Esben has a background in Dairy Science and Technologies from Copenhagen University with follow up education from SIMI and MIT-Sloan and IMD within managing Strategy and Innovation.

ONNO OMTA Prof. Onno Omta holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Groningen and was Associate Professor in Innovation Management at the same institution. He is also Executive Committee member of IFAMA and IFAMA Europe, and Chairman of WICaNeM.

STEFANO PASCUCCI Stefano Pascucci is an associate professor in innovation and organization of agribusiness at Wageningen University (NL). He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Policy. IVAR RAVN Ivar Ravn is the Coordinating Director for SEGES P/S and Executive Director of the Crops & Environment Division of SEGES P/S, where he is responsible for crops, environment, nature, and organic farming teams as well as management and for development and innovation on the project portfolio and commercial growth. His prior experience includes positions with the Danish Agricultural & Food Council, a freelance Agricultural Consultant, asd well as Director of Business Development and Department Manager positions at SEGES P/S. Ivar holds a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Economy. He is also Chairman of the Board of Hori Advice Scandinavia and a member of several other boards.

BRENT ROSS Brent Ross is an Associate Professor of Food Industry Management at Michigan State University. Using his expertise in business strategy, entrepreneurship, institutional economics, case study research methods and simulation modeling, Dr. Ross’ is primary interested in the business development issues facing managers in the global agrifood system. His current research focuses on the role of entrepreneurial behavior as a strategy to enhance firm performance. He also conducts research on network formation

and governance mechanisms to coordinate entrepreneurial agrifood systems, market legitimacy strategies for emerging industries and entrepreneurial firms, and the strategic management practices and corporate sustainability strategies employed by agri-food firms. In addition to his research, Dr. Ross has developed and reviewed agribusiness and entrepreneurship programs for institutions across the world. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in strategic management, food marketing, and institutional economics, and has expertise in using the case study teaching methodology in the classroom.

LONE RYG OLSEN CEO of Danish Food Cluster, Denmark Lone Ryg Olsen is the CEO of Danish Food Cluster, one of the co-hosting organizations behind IFAMA 2016. Trained in media and communication at the University of Copenhagen and Aarhus School of Journalism, she began her career as a reporter and editor at the Danish national newspaper Jyllands Posten. She has since held top-level management positions at Elbodan, BTX Group and Netværk Denmark, as well as in public institutions. In 2010, she founded Working Relations, an HR and communications firm.

SEBASTIAN SENESI Sebastián Senesi is the Director of the Food and Agribusiness Program. since 2013. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering and a Masters degree in Food and Agribusiness from the University of Buenos Aires. He is the Director of the Food and Agribusiness Masters Program and of the Executive Program in Agri-food Foreign Trade. Prof. Senesi develops teaching, researching and consulting related to the organization, innovation and sustainability of food value chains. He has published over 80 papers and other research projects in journals, magazines and newspapers. He wrote 2 books, participated in 11 books and 3 book chapters as author or co-author.

NICK VAN DEN BERG Born in 1953 in the city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Started as a social worker in city renewal areas in Rotterdam. Manager of a local education center. Started in 1989 as an account manager for the municipality of Rotterdam with a focus on real-estate development, business parks and retail projects. Experienced in city development projects, based on the combination of city renewal and economics. Later working as an urban developer for the economic department with a focus on digital economics, smart cities and new business startups. Currently searching for new innovative power in the regional food cluster as a development manager for the Rotterdam Foodcluster in cooperation with international businesses and knowledge institutes. Transition of the food sector is urgent and inspires to innovate in the perspective of sustainability and global climate change.

Before becoming Managing Director at Food Valey NL, Mr. Van Hoesel worked as a researcher and consultant at Buck Consultants International and Rijnconsult, and held the Executive Director position at the Food Valley NL Representative Office in China.

Arjen J. van Tunen (1958) graduated as MSc. in Medical Biology in 1986 and as PdD in Genetics in 1991, both from the University of Amsterdam. He worked 10 years for Plant Research International. First as Groupleader Molecular genetics of floral organ formation in flowers (1991-1995), followed by Head of department Cell Biology (1995-1998) and finally as Director Research (1998-2001). In 2001 he became Director of the Swammerdam Institute for Life Science of the University of Amsterdam. In 2004 he joined KeyGene, Wageningen, the Netherlands as CEO and as president of KeyGene USA. Arjen is also Board Member of EuropaBio, HollandBio (Dutch Biotech Association) and Food Valley.NL.

PEDER TUBORGH CEO of Arla Foods Peder Tuborgh began his career in the food industry in 1987. JACK VAN DER VORST Professor Dr. Jack G.A.J. van der Vorst (1970) is General Director of the Social Sciences Group and member of the Board of Directors of Wageningen UR, The Netherlands. From 2005 to 2015 he was Chair of the Operations Research and Logistics Group and Head of the Management Decision Support section at Wageningen University.
