July brought some very hot weather and some much needed rain. As all may have noticed, our irrigation pond/lake were very low, which made the rain especially welcomed. I know we are all looking forward to an early and long fall...truly a special time to be in the Sandhills of North Carolina. Congratulations to Kathy Hartwiger who recently qualified for the US MidAmateur Championship. The qualifier was hosted on the Magnolia Golf Course, with the Championship being played at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, NJ at the end of August. Good Luck Kathy! Nominations for the Advisory Board continue to be solicited, with the nomination process lasting into the second week of August. This will be followed by the voting process which will start in the middle of August. If you've thought about getting more involved in your Club, here's a great opportunity. The Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst Advisory Board has three openings for three-year terms starting September 2026. As your current President, the 2025-2026 Advisory Board would like to welcome all members to consider joining us. We are much more than just a golf club, so having all groups represented on the Board will make the Club more inclusive for everyone. You will be engaged in all facets of operations and have the ability to make a difference in your Club. Meetings are held monthly, and your talents will be utilized. It is a challenging and fun experience. An application is available HERE, and elections will be held in August. In preparation for the 2027 golf calendar, it is time to start planning for the 13th edition of our Pinewild Charity Tournament for 2027! Pinewild has consistently demonstrated that our community is very involved, supportive, and generous, with over $430,000 raised over the past 12 years. With the Clubhouse facilities expected to be completed with the renovation/construction near the beginning of 2027, the event target dates are anticipated for the summer or fall of next year. Please review the information sheet and application HERE. Nomination requests are due by October 31st. Thank you to all the Members for their continued support of OUR Club. Upcoming Events Trivia Challenge continues on Wednesday, August 19th. With the Clubhouse closed, the event will be hosted at the Clara McLean House. The action begins at 6:15 PM, and the cost is $7.50 per person. Teams of eight will compete in a lively round of general knowledge trivia—so gather your group and join us for a fun evening! Social Two-Hours on Friday, August 28th for free appetizers and wine tasting beverage specials. The event will be hosted at the temporary facilities and the Swimming Pool complex. Come and have a great evening with friends and neighbors. No reservations needed. Member-Member August 14th and 15th one of Pinewild’s keystone events where members will pair together to compete in a 36-hole Fourball Stroke Play competition. There are two divisions: Men and Women which will award Overall Gross Member-Member Champions and Overall Net MemberMember Champions. Fall Club Fittings & Ball Fitting Later this month, our Fall Fitting Days return with the first on Wednesday, August 26th with TaylorMade. FootJoy will be here Wednesday, September 23rd for a Shoe Fitting Lab. TaylorMade will return for another fitting day on Wednesday, October 21st.

Magnolia Course Twenty women took on the summer heat in an ABCD Shamble, producing some impressive scores despite the challenging conditions.

Magnolia Course Thirty PWGA ladies braved the heat for a fun Two-Person Partner Ringer event, playing Magnolia holes 1-9 twice and combining their best score on each hole for a final ringer score.

Congratulations to Paula Fitzpatrick on her Holein-One on July 22, 2026, at Pinehurst No. 7 on the 5th hole!

Ladies, the North Carolina summer heat and humidity can be more challenging than they seem. Please stay hydrated, recognize the signs of heat exhaustion, and don't hesitate to step off the course if you're feeling unwell.

In Memoriam: Kay Cormier The PWGA extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kay Cormier, who was laid to rest on July 1, 2026. Kay was a valued member of our golfing community and will be greatly missed. May she be enjoying endless rounds on the greenest fairways and smoothest greens imaginable.

Back The PWGA and PALS came together on July 7 for their annual mixer event, Christmas in July. In addition to a fun day on the course, participants collected household items for Friend to Friend, an organization that supports women affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

Our agronomy team remains focused on enhancing both the playability and long-term health of our courses. Several projects are currently underway that will help improve turf quality, course conditioning, and the overall golfer experience. Increased Sunlight for Holly Course Greens We are continuing tree removal efforts around the 3rd and 8th green on the Holly Course. While trees add beauty and character to the golf course, excessive shade can create challenges for healthy turf growth. By increasing sunlight and airflow around these greens, we expect to see several long-term benefits, including: Stronger, healthier turfgrass Improved root development Better drying conditions following rain and irrigation Reduced disease pressure More consistent playing surfaces throughout the year Magnolia Tee Renovation Project Over the next six weeks, we will be sodding several of the most heavily used and worn teeing areas on the Magnolia Course. Replacing these worn areas with new sod will: Provide a more uniform playing surface Improve turf density and appearance Enhance overall course presentation Help the tees recover more quickly from daily play Continuous Improvement Our goal each day is simple: to make Pinewild's golf courses play better, look better, and remain healthy for years to come. From routine maintenance practices to larger improvement projects, every effort is focused on providing members and guests with the highest quality golfing experience possible. Aquatics Pinewild Pool Cool off and relax at the Pinewild pool—your go-to spot for sunny summer days. Unwind poolside, enjoy time with family, or make a splash with friends—the pool is open and ready. Before heading over, be sure to check daily updates on hours and conditions here: Pool Condition and Updates Open daily, 8:00 AM to 30 minutes before sunset. Closed Tuesday mornings (before 11:00 AM) as needed for maintenance.

Upcoming Classes Water Aerobics with Johan de Brigard June - August Tuesdays 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM Thursdays 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM August 27 Closing Luncheon Enjoy a fun, low-impact workout in the pool with our summer Water Aerobics classes. Perfect for all fitness levels, it’s a great way to stay active and cool.

Details and Registration $10 per week Water Aerobics is open to all members and limited to 35 participants per class. Fees will be billed to your member account. Registration is available through Golf Genius, and participants will receive a weekly confirmation email each Friday for the upcoming week.

Construction U P D AT E Exciting progress continues on Pinewild's clubhouse expansion project, with major milestones being achieved across both the site and building phases. Site Development The site is taking shape quickly, with paving operations underway since July 14 and site lighting installation beginning on July 9. A significant milestone was reached when the underground waterline received final approval on June 22, clearing the way for vertical construction to move forward. Clubhouse Work Work on the clubhouse continues to advance steadily. Interior framing is now complete, and wall rough-ins are underway. Roof replacement also began on July 14, marking another visible step in the transformation of the facility. Fitness Center The future fitness center continues to make impressive progress. Framing and roof sheathing were completed on July 10, creating the foundation for the next phase of construction. Roofing work is now underway as the building continues to take shape. Function Hall, Golf Shop & Locker Rooms Significant advancements have been made in the Function Hall complex. Framing for the golf shop and locker rooms was completed on July 10, while the connector steel structure is also complete. Truss installation began on July 15, bringing the building one step closer to its final form. Each week brings visible changes to the project, and we look forward to sharing more updates as Pinewild's exciting new amenities continue to come to life.
