ourners from across the Inland Empire have gathered in community throughout the region to honor the victims and show support for the survivors of the Dec. 2 mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino. On Dec. 4, the Rialto community came together to pray for and remember all affected by the attack, including some of its own — Larry Daniel Kaufman, 42, Bennetta Bet-Badal, 46, and Yvette Velasco, 27. Velasco, who was among the youngest of the victims, was a Saint Catherine parishioner, according to KCAL9’s coverage of the ser-
vice. Kaufman’s boyfriend, Ryan Reyes, spoke to KCAL9 about his loss: “It’s been very, very difficult,” said Reyes, “and very, very trying. I know once it all officially sinks in, it’s really going to hit home.” The family of Velasco was too was too distraught to attend the service, according to the KCAL9.com Hundreds attended the memorial service and vigil held at Saint Catherine of Siena Church. The names of each of the 14 victims was read aloud followed by the ringing of a bell each time. Prayers also went out to the 21 injured.
