Today Littlefield-Richard and Virginia Marquez are the only women serving on the city council. Both, along with the Mayor and five other council members, are facing an arduous task to help San Bernardino get out of bankruptcy, bring in businesses, and improve its living conditions.

We the People Rising, an antiimmigrant group based out of Claremont, held a rally near San Bernardino City Hall later that day to voice their opposition to Obama’s executive plan.

The Supreme Court has until June to make its decision on the Deferred Action for Parental Arrivals (DAPA) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals the program. Created by the Obama Administration, both programs allow undocumented parents of U.S. born children and residents and undocumented youth to receive work authorization and be considered lawfully present in the country.

“We are hoping that [DACA/DAPA] will be implemented,” said Emilio Amaya, director of the San Bernardino Center for Community Services. “We are asking the administration to extend some relief to the recently arrived refugee families from Central America that are fleeing from violence.”

“It’s executive overreach, and we highly oppose that,” said Robin Hvidston, We the People Rising’s executive director. “We are trying to get the public motivated on the side of supporting our constitution. We encourage the President and our government to put Americans first.”
