everal city commissions were dissolved by the Colton City Council during its meeting on May 3.
Smith’s staff is currently in the process of evaluating what potential impact of disbanding the Civil Service Board and Mobile Home Rent Review will have on the city. City Attorney Carlos Campos said it may be possible that the dissolution of the aforementioned boards may require a vote from residents.
“We have a list of different commissions and boards that staff has recommended to dissolve,” explained Campos. “As we reviewed them we identified the first three we could disband. The other ones--we need to look further, which is why they have not been brought forward.”
“We’ve already done projects as recently as two months ago to improve the cemetery,” De La Rosa said.

The commissions that were disbanded during the council meeting are the Cemetery Commission, which recommended policies and created an annual budget for the Hermosa Gardens Cemetery; the Community Facilities District Commission that brainstormed for ways to fund infrastructure, public facilities, and services; and the Colton Youth Board that allowed students to sit on commissions.

After preparing the annual “Maddy’s List”--the list of local appointments for city commissions--City Manager Bill Smith and his staff became aware of several commissions had been inactive for several years.
“It was a no-brainer for us to have a celebration of food, music, and art on National Museum Day. We wanted to make this year’s celebration a little different. Our museum is full of amazing, rich history,” retorted Project Coordinator Mario Suarez.
Suarez said he had hoped that this year’s event--the third annual for the museum-would bring more visitors. And despite lingering clouds and threats of rain in the area, it seemed that, by late afternoon some 300 people had visited the celebration site nestled on “G” Street downtown between La Cadena Drive and Ninth Street.
