The 73-year-old baseball historian has worked with other scholars in recent years to gather photos and share the stories of Mexican American baseball players. Next week on April 22, original members of Colton’s Mercuries baseball team will be inducted into the city’s hall of fame. The event is scheduled to take place at the Gonzales Center at 6 p.m.
he Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post 6476 in Colton received substantial renovations on Thursday April 7. Employees from Home Depot stores across the Inland region volunteered their time to install new ceiling fans, urinals, toilets, flooring, and repaint exterior and interior walls.
“I’m doing it for the families,” Salazar explained. “And I’m doing it for the city.”

Moyeda said the transformation of the post will benefit not only veterans, but the community atlarge.
Cindy Vanlaar, the manager of the Chino Hills store, said the company scouted the location months in advance to analyze potential renovations the post needed.

According to VFW post commander Bernie Moyeda, the renovations to the building were possible because of a $12,000 Community Impact grant they received from the home improvement conglomerate.
“We’ve done a lot of remodeling ourselves,” Moyeda explained. “We’re grateful to Home Depot for the work they have done. This a place where veterans feel at home, and where residents are able to hold events and fundraisers.”
