After convincing Texas to join the East in the fight against the Allied States of America, Robert Hawkins receives a message from John Smith—the mastermind of the September attacks—asking for help. Believing Smith will be an asset in the coming civil war, Hawkins and Jake Green sneak back into hostile territory and free the prisoner in a daring assault on Loomer Ridge Prison. Back in Jericho, Major Beck uses evidence of the Allied State/Jennings and Rall conspiracy to secretly turn A.S.A. commanders to the side of good. Meanwhile, when he is unable to convince the influential Major Petrella, Dale Turner takes matters into his own hands, ambushing Petrella as he leaves town.
