Approach
Design to me is more about the process and not a sequence of steps that one needs to take to find a solution. There is no linear method, rather a complex network of methods used in an iterative process to accomplish the task at hand. The process and the tools that one uses are vital in their understanding and creation of a design. Terms such as hierarchy, continuity, symmetry, rhythm, pattern, static, dynamic are amongst a few that form the foundation of an understanding of design. An approach to design, which despite being universally educated, is a rather subjective one. What approach may be successful for one may not work for another. Context plays a key role in understanding and developing the right approach using the right set of tools. Physical drawings, model making, sketching along with computer aided design using variety of software all have their place in the design process. A blend of “out of the box” thinking and critical eye are important variables that direct the approach one takes in the design process. With an ideology of “Form follows function” and a minimalistic approach to design, my focus lay on the simple elements that help understand and express the key design principles. Over the duration of study, I would like to share this knowledge to upcoming designers and instill in them the work ethics and skills essential for a designer. My professional practice experience also helps me understand the requirements of the professional world. Apart from fullfilling the designing duties, an architect is responsible for essential coordination and supervision of his works. Knowledge of fields around the design world are essential to graps and obtaining this information as a student would help them prepare better for professional practice. ...... Establishing these skills in a repetitive iterative method are essential components in dictating a design approach.
