Spring on Kāpiti Island

Savour spring on Kāpiti Island

by John Barrett Covid-19 has certainly had an impact on all of us on this earth, and Kāpiti lsland is no exception.

However, we know that in spring, some things will happen – new growth will occur, birds will arrive from offshore to nest, and others will simply start the breeding and nesting cycle, followed in a couple of months by new chicks appearing in the forest.

Covid has had an effect in other ways, too. No international visitors of course, but Kiwis are heading to Kāpiti lsland in strong numbers. lt seems like the old “don’t leave home till you’ve seen the country” jingle from 1984 has resonated with us as a nation.

Visitors from the far north to the deep south are booking day tours and overnight stays on the island. Although there are limited numbers accepted at the Lodge, there’s still room for day visits. Overnight bookings, however, are heavy for spring and summer.

If you want to visit this year, book now!
