Dopper exists to solve something, not sell something.
Specifically, we exist to solve the problems caused by packaged water, and the damage it does to our world's waters.
In short, we are here to end packaged water.
We do this by getting people to drink tap water, by stopping companies from selling packaged water, and by lobbying governments to ban it altogether. Our solutions range from reusable water bottles and accessible water taps to community actions and governmental lobbying. And through it all we raise the bar in sustainable standards.

Since we sold our first Dopper bottle in 2010 we’ve prevented the sale of over 3 billion single-use packaged water bottles as well as raising awareness of the problem they pose and providing access to clean drinking water in Nepal.
Bottle
In 2009, after watching a documentary about plastic soup and seeing single-use packaged water bottles wash up on the beach near his home, Merijn Everaarts decided to act. After asking himself why people would buy packaged water when they already have excellent water in the tap, he launched a design competition to find the perfect reusable water bottle. From this, the Dopper bottle was born, with the first Dopper Original being sold in 2010.
In 2023, an external party assessed Dopper's impact in the Netherlands. They found that people who were given a Dopper bottle used 104 fewer single-use packaged water bottles (per person, per year) – that’s 2,6 kg worth of plastic – in the first 5 years of using the bottle. While it may sound like a drop in the figurative ocean, Dopper bottles have already prevented the sale of over 3 billion bottles.
Maps
According to research from Tabula Rasa, an agency specialised in behavioural change, people want to refill their reusable bottles when they’re out of the home but struggle to find public water taps. To overcome the issue, we added every publicly accessible water tap in the Netherlands to Google Maps, with Belgium, France, Spain, and Germany following close behind.

Clean Drinking Water Projects
Access to water is a human right. Yet an estimated 1 in 10 people worldwide can’t just turn on the tap. In Nepal, the Himalayas offer one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in the world. Yet due to a lack of infrastructure, 24.3 million Nepalis don't have access to basic water services.
That’s why every Dopper bottle sold contributes to the work of our two main partners in Nepal: Dutch NGO Simavi and Kathmandu-based social enterprise SmartPaani. Together, we offer education, raise awareness and kick-start (drinking) water projects in different areas of the country.
