STYLISH BATHROOMS FOR EVERYBODY

BY
Thinking
about adapting your bathroom? The great news is that to make it easier to use it can also look beautifully designed and anything but clinical!
Modern, stylish finishes can be achieved with inclusively-designed products, so there’s a bath, shower, toilet and sink, plus all the accessories, available for you to choose the bathroom you want, in a style you love.
And if you or a member of your family is getting a little older, a bit less agile, or has developed a disability, if you are wanting to stay in your forever-home now is the time to consider future-proofing it.
Plus it’s worth remembering that an assisted living bathroom can benefit every user - expectant mums, a teenager with a leg injury, small children who cannot climb over the side of the bath - accessibility means inclusivity.

Will Hickman, Sales and Marketing Director,
There’s nothing like a refreshing shower, and that shouldn’t need to change if your mobility or flexibility is reduced.
With our superb range of anti-slip shower trays, plus helpful accessories including shower seats and support rails in contemporary designs and colourways, your new shower will be both stylish and safe.
Slips and falls, especially on wet soapy surfaces, can occur only too easily, so the incorporation of an anti-slip or slip resistant surface is essential when choosing your shower tray.
Low-level or flat shower tray profiles mean there’s no big step to negotiate when getting in and out, and grab rails or support bars keep you steady.
The size of your shower depends on the space available in your bathroom, but going as large as possible allows for the incorporation of a shower seat, which can be stand-alone or wall-mounted.

Shower toilets are an ideal solution for multigenerational households, where people of di erent ages and physical needs share the same bathroom. They o er a combination of hygiene, comfort, and accessibility that supports the wellbeing of every family member – from children to older adults.
One of the key benefits of shower toilets is their superior hygiene. Instead of relying solely on toilet paper, these toilets use a gentle stream of warm water to clean, promoting better personal cleanliness and reducing irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin or mobility issues. This is particularly beneficial in households with elderly individuals or those recovering from surgery, where ease of use and hygiene are critical.
Height adjustability is another important feature that can allow your shower toilet to be well-suited for multi-generational living. This can be done by installing your Shower Toilet onto installation frames such as the Geberit DuoFix. This allows the WC pan height to be modified according to the needs of each user, improving safety and comfort, at first fix installation phase.
When customers see AquaClean shower toilets they are amazed! They o er the ultimate hygiene solution for anyone with limited mobility and are a real boost to independence.

When choosing bathroom products to make your daily routine more comfortable you need to ask are they e ective, do they look good, and how much will they cost?
Significant savings can be made when you take advantage of the VAT exemptions; 5% on many products for the over 60s, and the full 20% for those with qualifying disabilities. Choose a reputable provider that can advise you of the tax implications. When you browse our range of beautifully designed and solidly crafted bathrooms, fittings, and accessories you can be confident you’ll be getting the best products and the correct advice.
If you’re disabled or have a long-term illness, you will not be charged VAT on products designed or adapted for your own personal or domestic use. Additionally, you will not be charged VAT on the installation and any extra work needed as part of this, but both the product and your disability have to qualify.
For VAT purposes, you’re disabled or have a long-term illness if you have a physical or mental impairment that a ects your ability to carry out everyday activities, for example, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, blindness, deafness, and learning disability, you have a condition that’s treated as chronic sickness, like diabetes or arthritis, or you have terminal conditions such as motor neurone disease, or some cancers and heart disease.
You do not qualify if you’re elderly but not disabled, or if you’re temporarily disabled, e.g. a broken leg. However if you are aged over 60 you can benefit from reduced rate VAT on mobility equipment, currently 5% rather than 20%.
And to be exempt from VAT, the product needs to be solely designed or adapted for a disability, not just a product that’s helpful to people with a disability.
VAT is exempt with qualifying disabilities if you have a new bathroom, washroom, or lavatory installed, or extend or adapt an existing one to assist with your disability. This can include replacing your bath with a shower or walk-in bath, installing a ground-floor bathroom, or altering an existing bathroom for wheelchair access.
For people aged over 60 you can benefit from a 5% reduced rate VAT on mobility equipment, which includes grab rails, bath lifts, built-in shower seats, or showers containing builtin shower seats, and walk-in baths with sealable doors. It’s important to recognise that you need to have the equipment installed by the supplier – ‘supply only’ does not qualify for the VAT reduction.
Remember when choosing your new bathroom fixtures, fittings, and accessories that you need to declare your VAT exemption status before you buy, it is not a retrospective repayment.
It is also worth knowing that grants to adapt your bathroom may be available from your local authority, Care & Repair, DFG (Disabled Facilities Grant) and Adapt My Home.
Take the first steps to future-proofing your bathroom now; explore our full range of independent living solutions, and speak with one of our specialist advisors to confirm your VAT exemption eligibility.
