Life Drawing Life drawing is a pre-requisite skill that leads to other architectural skills. The first year of my architectural education can be represented by life hand drawings, It was the usual skills to observe and record our environments to collect visual data in varous degree of details within a definite time. I had drawn these to demonstrate my hand drawing skills. Both pencil drawings were about the environment that are so close to my daily life.

Harp: primitivism We know roughness is basic when we see birds build their nests for eggs. We see the kind of beauty of nest because of their primitivism, purity and singularity in material. This artifact I created during the sculpture lesson in the second year of my architectural course. It was made by hand using porcelain clay with wood sticks, and then to be burnt in 1200 C. We would like to see the expression of grand but pure.

LIFE - LONG LEARNING CENTRE: LOLYWOOD central belt, scotland Instructor: Peter Hawley

In Falkirk,a neighbour town of Linlithgow, crime rate of youth violence has been increasing in line with the whole UK. The government is spending 5 billion GBP annually just to re-integrate youth offenders to be worthwhile members of society. Richard-Holloway, the ex-chairman of the Scottish Arts Council talked with us about this project. He had been involving himself in initiating a youth orchestra on the Raploch Estate in Stirling using the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra in Venezuela as an example of what can be done to benefit young people when ‘The corruption of social power creates victims...’. Likewise in here, ‘Lolywowd’ life-long learning centre, young offenders have opportunities to make films and record their experience as a progressive alternative to focusing on violence fuelled by the media and TV. Their lives can be rebuilt working with alongside the filmmakers and artists in these new studios. The social purpose benefits youth offenders upon their release they can re-engage with the society more easily. Young offenders can be re-engage with filming activities in form of day-release accompanied with their mentors. Film editing, recording, digital operation on musics , mixings are all valuable skills that can be learnt from the centre. Apart from teamworking they might also lead a guided tour to a more public relevant spaces to enjoy films and socialise in roof open space that overlooked back to Falkirk. Afterall, this is a process of retreat, and embracing that new lives coming back to the city. Society is about cohesion and forgiving. To cope with the night use of the building, overnight accomodation are provided for busy artist, visiting artist and crews. TOPOGRAPHY OF TERROR CENTRE niederkirchnerstraße, berlin, germany Instructor: John Payne

The concept of this project refers to ‘pain’ wraps around the broken society of the post-World War II Germany. During the “Third Reich” the headquarters of the Secret State Police, the SS and the Reich Security Main Office were located at the site. Due to the deep history of World War II of this site, the first concern is how meanings to be carried in the building. A broken society of Berlin is represented by a wrapping form and flowing space whiich refers to a record of continunity and endless events of pain in the War or post-War. The way that spaces are produced is from a genuine process of breakage of rigid material, say, glass. Broken glass pieces create shape of space: acute angle space, narrow space, converging space, sharp edge courtyard spaces.

FAMILY LIVING IN 21st CENTURY: FOUNTAINBRIDGE DEVELOPMENT fountainbridge, edinburgh, scotland Design studio: architecture + urbanism Instructor: Leslie Forsyth ‘ the people scale where you trust the city and when you trust the buildings, that’s would count for quality ’ Jan Gehl (2010)

The site is located in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland. Within the local context, the site is situated west of the city centre in Fountainbridge. As a global trend to reduce carbon, the use of vehicles, but encourage city life, open space is crucial for people to reclaim from road space. The design exams the concept of place making between blocks. Living in these blocks is about connection and exploration through spaces along the routes towards town centre. It is specially necessary when social cohesion was challenged by economic downturn. Family is the focus to be explored on their living in 21st Century. Imagine when economic downturn, people are suffered from insecure job, anxious relationships with colleagues and the threat of loss of social status. In this situation, family members are the only safeest suppotive place that allow to reuild, retreat, and review new opportunities by individuals.

This is a communal public library which is deviated from traditional library that encourage social exchange and communications. This is new type library. The presence of such like a nerve that accept people’s demand and then produce. Here, the reaction between people and books produce knowledge. The permeability on ground floor determined the building to flow on top of the existing shopping centre. The library, benefited by smoothly welcoming people flowing through existing shops, also brings skylight and atrium into the shopping centre. Shopping centre, books shops, library, and classroom formed a tension link for the scheme. The sedum roof designed is extinglish birds’ paradise, precedented by Laban Dance Centre designed by Herzog & De Meuron.

IDEA COMPETITION NEW SCOTTISH NEIGHBOURHOOD physical model entry for masterplan idea, calderwood, scotland [Shortlist] ‘ Can you create a compelling vision for an inspiring new neighbourhood that establishes an authentic sense of place, using the DNA from the site’s context, whilst embracing 21st century advances and layig the foundations to support an enlightened lifestyle and happy community ’ The brief (2007)

Spirit of place

The idea I call it: Surprise + Unexpected. The site has two features: nearby Kirhill, river connect Village Centre. Proposing residential density in the area that attracted to live can bring about communities that are socially sustainable, and this embracing the living in the spaces: Promenade. Here housing blocks are left up the ground allow open space to be access by nature and the ground floor facilities are used for communal facilities: workshops, shops, children care cetre, healthcare clinics. Besides, the traditional front gardens or back garden can be access by wildlifes. For examples, by connecting with the Visitor Centre there had been visitors enjoying horse riding and that can be seen or heard their presence in meters while you are in your private garden.
