AUSTIN WINS FOR HIS FAMILY, IDAHO WINS FROM POWERBALL
Director’s Corner
Dear Friends,
November begins a season of celebrations for family, friends, and colleagues. I am grateful for your continued support of our good causes. Idaho is better because of you. I am proud to announce that the Idaho Lottery is introducing “Love Your School”, our fourth Do Good initiative. This engaging program allows VIP Club members to allocate 50 VIP Club points for entry in a monthly draw. At the end of each month, one winner is randomly chosen. That winner will then select an Idaho public school of their choice to be the recipient of a $1,000 award. The school can order any materials their school needs. The winner will also receive $100 in free Scratch tickets. I’m certain being able to support the school of their choice will resonate well with our generous players. During October’s second, billion-dollar-plus jackpot on Powerball increased foot traffic to your stores as that game alone accounted for over $15 million in sales and an estimated $6.1 million contribution to the annual dividend, including $633,000 from the final draw on October 11th. The odds of winning a million dollars just got better!! With two one million-dollar tickets guaranteed to be sold in Idaho, the seventeenth edition of the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle started to great success on October 21st. We have already seen a lot of additional enthusiasm and support for this game, and with an additional 200,000 tickets available, we believe more players will participate and visit your store frequently for a chance to win big. During this holiday season, the Idaho Lottery reminds everyone to responsibly share Lottery tickets as gifts. You must be 18 years old to buy, sell, or redeem Lottery games in Idaho. Happy Holidays and happy selling!
During the most recent, billion-dollar Powerball jackpot run, one lucky store in Chubbuck actually sold two, $150,000 winning tickets for the $1.565 billion draw on Monday, October 9. The Maverik on Yellowstone in Chubbuck was the lucky store and the first person to claim their prize was Blackfoot resident, Austin Stewart. Austin is like many Idahoans, hard-working and family focused. And being October, he is getting ready for deer hunting season. “Finances are pretty tight these days, so I kinda felt guilty buying the ticket for Monday night. But I’m glad I did,” said Austin when he claimed his prize at Lottery offices in Boise. “I was so excited for my deer hunting trip, I didn’t check the ticket until I got back last night. I didn’t believe it. I took it to the store to have them check it, too. They said I had to come to Boise. I couldn’t sleep all night.” He and his family arrived first thing to claim his prize, $150,000 from matching four numbers and the Powerball. Like all tickets in Idaho, Austin’s ticket included the PowerPlay feature which multiplied his winnings from $50,000 up to $150,000. “I’m trying not to think that I was only one number away from winning $1.5 billion. But this is incredible and just what the family needed,” he added with a wide grin.
A father with a newborn, he said the family planned to get a new roof for their house before winter and then save the rest. Congratulations, Austin, on a great win for you and the family! As this jackpot run on Powerball came to a close, the State of Idaho really benefitted. Over the entire run, Idaho schools and the State’s buildings will have earned approximately $6.1 million just from Powerball sales. That makes Idaho the real winner!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND $100,000 LATER… One Middleton man got the surprise birthday present of a lifetime from a winning Idaho Lottery Powerball ticket! By his own admission, Scott says he plays the Lottery only occasionally. “I’m not much of a gambler. My wife, though, she plays all the time. She loves scratch games, and buys a couple of raffle tickets each year, so it was not too much of a surprise she got me a Powerball ticket with PowerPlay for my birthday,” explained Scott. A few days after his birthday, Scott asked his wife if she had checked the Powerball ticket to see if it had won. When she did, she was stunned. Continue to Page 3
Continued from Page 2
“It said we needed to take the ticket to the Lottery office to claim it. So, we tried to figure out how much we’d won,” explained Scott. “I thought it was $50,000.” Unaware of the true size of his prize, Scott brought his ticket to the Lottery office in Boise expecting to claim $50,000. That’s when his birthday present took on a whole new meaning and he got the surprise of a lifetime. When the ticket was claimed, it showed Scott had won $100,000! “It’s like I won the Lottery!” exclaimed Scott when he realized the full amount of his prize. Scott’s winning ticket matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. The ticket also included the PowerPlay feature, which multiplies non-jackpot winning tickets based on a number selected for that draw. This number was two, turning Scott’s ticket into a $100,000 winner. The winning ticket was sold at a Jacksons ExtraMile in Middleton. With the unexpected additional winnings, Scott said his plans include helping each of his children a little and saving the rest.
SURPRISE CLASSROOM WISHLIST DELIVERY AT MARY MCPHERSON ELEMENTARY
Deep in the southwest side of Boise is Mary McPherson Elementary School. In mid-October, a couple of 2nd Grade teachers got a big surprise and early holiday bonus from the Idaho Lottery’s Classroom Wishlist program. The surprise was compliments of fellow 2nd grade teacher Stacee Marshall. She submitted a Classroom Wishlist in September for a Chromebook charging cart for each of their classrooms. “With twenty-two students, twenty-two laptops, and twenty-two charging cords, it is hard not to end up with tangled cords, lost laptops, or laptops that are not charged,” said Marshall. “Our building is older and has very few outlets for students
to charge their computers.” When the Idaho Lottery showed up for the special delivery, Marshall’s two co-workers and fellow teachers had no idea they were coming. The delivery caught them by surprise. They joined the celebration and were soon overjoyed to receive these essential items. “We will have less distractions with students moving around and trying to charge their laptops, leaving more time to focus on their work,” Marshall added. “These carts will help to keep students (and the teachers) organized, charged up, and ready to learn!” Congratulations Mary McPherson Elementary!
Happy $100,000 Birthday, Scott!
RAFFLE 50,000TH TICKET WINNER!
Aaron Marquette from Garden City told his boss this morning he had to run to the store for a quick errand. He had been following the Idaho Lottery’s ticker on the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle and knew the game was coming close to selling ticket number 050000 which would be worth $1,000. He stepped into the Jacksons Extra Mile on Broadway across from St. Luke’s hospital downtown and bought a few tickets. The last one he bought was ticket 050000. “I called my boss and told him my errand was going to take a little longer,” Marquette said with a smile. Fifteen minutes later he claimed his $1,000 prize from the Idaho Lottery at their offices in Boise. “That’s a good early lunch break for Monday,” said Marguette. Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle tickets are selling fast. Let your players know to get theirs before they’re gone!
