School Heroes. Every school has one, maybe even more than one. Those unique individuals who make a difference for a student, a parent, another faculty or staff member, or to someone in the community. These heroes are unique, going the extra mile day and night, to selflessly benefit
MELISSA HUNT - TEACHER I.T. STODDARD ELEMENTARY
This winter, the Idaho Lottery recognized twenty School Heroes as part of their Sweethearts Scratch Game campaign to “Share the Love”. They were teachers, social workers, principals, nurses, custodians, and front desk staff. And they came from every corner of the State: from Rexburg to Genesee, from large towns like Pocatello to small towns like Pinehurst. These twenty individuals represent the highest quality in education and those who are impacting their school and community.

They’re like Patti Covell, a 5th grade teacher from Falcon Ridge Charter School in Kuna. Patti was nominated by her in-class assistant, Rachel Turben. Rachel described the incredible passion and patience Patti has in her classroom, with a heart that sings, dances, or cracks jokes to ensure her kids

Director’s Corner

Dear Friends,
In late January, I had the opportunity to visit Lakevue Elementary in Nampa. Joining me was Kirk Vashaw, CEO of Spangler Candy, maker of Sweethearts Candies. It was heartwarming to see 143 5th grade students cheer their teacher Kim Brown as our team surprised and recognized her as our first School Hero. This was part of our Sweethearts Scratch Game to “Share the Love”. Overall, we recognized twenty school heroes like Kim across Idaho. What we found was there are hundreds more in every community, making a difference each day to better Idaho. At the Idaho Lottery, we are lucky to get to experience these stories and share them.
We have been fortunate so far this fiscal year with two Mega Millions jackpots that reached over $1.3 billion, plus two Powerball jackpots that have exceeded three-quarters of a billion dollars, including the world-record setter back in November. Big jackpots definitely drive Lottery sales. We are having an exceptional year. We are on pace for another record sales year. This is truly remarkable and a testament to your continued support for the lottery and our mission to benefit public education in Idaho.
Strong performance in all other elements of our product portfolio point to an annual dividend that exceeds our forecast at the beginning of the year. During a presentation before the Idaho Legislature’s Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee on February 15, I announced a sales forecast of $408 million and likely dividend return of close to $80 million for this year, 7% over our original forecast.
Happy Selling!
are having fun while learning. Often, Patti stays in the classroom during her lunch to help any students in need, "She won't allow any of her students to fall behind, no matter the reason. It's just not in her," Rachel explained. "I think the world should be full of teachers just like Patti. It truly would make the world a better place and give children a love for not only learning, but a love for life, your neighbor, and spreading kindness into the world. I
Or like Rachel Del Valle, a social worker for the Jerome School District. She was nominated by Toni Harbaugh. According to Toni, “Rachel goes above and beyond working with students who struggle with behavioral issues. She helps teachers with interventions and writes behavior plans to keep students in school and learning. Rachel conducts threat assessments and creates safety plans. She conducts suicide assessments and aids parents in seeking outside resources. Rachel runs the Districtwide Cares Team when there is a death in the school. She makes staff and students feel safe by providing a spot for them to just talk. Rachel has dedicated her school career to helping students. There are not enough words to describe how amazing, talented, and valued she is to the Jerome School District. She is truly a hero to whoever crosses her path. Rachel has changed the lives of so many of our students.”

$1,000
BIG SPIN WINNERS
Two Big Spin winners from two very different parts of Idaho met at Boise Towne Square on Wednesday afternoon for the chance to win up to $100,000 each! Joseph Cramer from Oldtown and Selena Rigby from Idaho Falls became the 10th and 11th people to have a turn with the Big Spin wheel during a live event.

Joe Cramer from Oldtown, Idaho, along with Selena Rigby from Idaho Falls took part in the Big Spin Event, the top prize for the second edition of the popular Scratch Game, the Big Spin. Each got a spin of the wheel. Cramer won $80,000 and Rigby won $70,000.

Joe Cramer is a life-long resident from northern Idaho. Understated but enthusiastic, Cramer works at Perfection Tire in Newport, WA, just across the Idaho border. “When I got the Big Spin wheel on the ticket, I went down to the store so I could watch the video wheel. I had a feeling it was a Big Spin. And I was right!” said Cramer. “I just had my birthday, and this is a great way to celebrate!”
Cramer purchased his winning ticket from Mobil 62512 in Oldtown.
Rigby’s “lucky, lucky day” came when she bought her ticket on a fluke at the Maverik in Rexburg while heading to St. Anthony two weeks ago. “I needed to stop and get a soda, so I thought I’d get a scratch ticket, too,” said the travel coordinator who has lived in eastern Idaho most of her life. “I’m going to be responsible with this. This is life changing and a great opportunity for me. I’m going to invest it so it starts working for me.”
The second edition of the Big Spin went on sale in late October. The game is already over 70% sold. There is one Big Spin Event winning ticket remaining in the game.

Some people are lucky in love, others are lucky in Lottery. And then there’s Arthur Ingle. He’s lucky in both!
Sixteen years ago, in 2007, a love story began when Arthur met Becky Patterson while living in Coeur d’Alene. That same year, Art also won $10,000 on Powerball. It was quite the year.
Before meeting each other, both were widowed after already having two children each. Luckily these two love birds met and haven't left each other's side since.
"Oh we just call each other partners, because that's what we are," Becky explained. "We don't need a piece of paper to prove our feelings. Without having some big fancy wedding, we were able to travel more! Just last year, we went on a 10 week cruise together."
Now retired, the couple frequently travels both in the United States and out of country. When they are at home, they play lottery games for fun! Arthur likes to play Powerball while Becky is more fond of Scratch Games.
Vietnam veteran John Ireland, a retired US Army Colonel and purple heart recipient, arrived at the Idaho Lottery with a winning ticket in pure shock. Although the Caldwell resident plays for fun each week, he never thought he would be a big winner. And big winner is right - $94,471 on the InstaPlay game Cash Spot.

"I don't know, I just had a feeling. My wife, Olga, didn't want me to buy any more tickets. I just bought a Powerball and Weekly Grand at Fred Meyer, and she said that was my limit!" explained Ireland before continuing his tale. “Later, we were visiting Ridley’s in Middleton and I just had a feeling. The funny thing is, I never play $10 Cash Spot. Something inside of me just really felt like I should, so I gave
the clerk the cash and Olga pressed the button for me. I know she was my good luck. Always has been."
Ireland met Olga while traveling for work in Peru. Even though they’ve been married for 35 years, he still sports a sparkle in his eye for his bride. After traveling the world, the two decided to retire in Idaho, where they truly felt at home. Ireland plans to pay some bills and share his winnings wisely.
A week before Valentine’s Day, Arthur bought a Powerball ticket from the Fred Meyer on Kathleen in Coeur d’Alene and nearly won the jackpot. His ticket matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. With PowerPlay, his ticket was a $100,000 winner!
"I don't have any particular numbers or anything, I've just always wanted to win big. I've been playing for years, and about ten years ago I won $10,000 on Powerball, which just fueled the fun!" Arthur explained.
The couple’s love for travel and each other is no joke! Arthur and Becky have visited every state, and stopped counting after they reached 6 countries. However, with grandkids and a cat, they do spend a little more time in Coeur d’Alene these days. And winning big should allow the couple to continue making memories for years to come.
